  1. LL you must have the patience of as saint, you have just reached the point many on here reached with Coco months ago.
  2. The guy is an absolute hypocrite, he condemns Lee Hughes for drink driving but he openly admits on air that he has been a drink driver himself. He also says that Oldham are a club with no morals but I have e-mailed and texted the show this morning and asked him to comment on the Kevin Kyle situation whereby Coventry have stood by him as a drink driver, he has not mentioned it (surprise surprise).
  3. It's just stupid to say we would sign Bin Laden, we dont even know whether he is a right or left sided player.
  4. NIDA InfoFacts: Crack and Cocaine Cocaine is a powerfully addictive stimulant drug. The powdered, hydrochloride salt form of cocaine can be snorted or dissolved in water and injected. Crack is cocaine that has not been neutralized by an acid to make the hydrochloride salt. This form of cocaine comes in a rock crystal that can be heated and its vapors smoked. The term "crack" refers to the crackling sound heard when it is heated.* Regardless of how cocaine is used or how frequently, a user can experience acute cardiovascular or cerebrovascular emergencies, such as a heart attack or stroke, which could result in sudden death. Cocaine-related deaths are often a result of cardiac arrest or seizure followed by respiratory arrest.
  5. To your mind anyone who has an opinion on this issue that doesn't agree entirely with yours is making a fool of himself. I've heard what Barry Owen has had to say on this matter and at no point feel that he has made a fool of himself or the club at any point. You have your opinion other people have their's, that doesn't make everyone who disagree's with you wrong.
  6. Many footballers have been convicted of drink driving the fact that they haven't knocked anybody down while under the influence is only good fortune, it could easily happen to anybody stupid enough to drink drive.
  7. A real favourite of mine, massive talent, technical ability and close control. When he was on his game and up for it he was an absolute nightmare for defenders who just did not know how to combat him. I dont think he did achieve maybe all he could have in the game with the talent he had, his spell at Latics was all too brief. The parallels with Rodney Marsh are extremely accurate, he was a real entertainer. He could also be very frustrating at times and was far more a player to have in your team if you were 2-0 up as opposed to 2-0 down. I often heard him described as a luxury player by some, but to me he was as I said a real entertainer and very skillful player, he was often worth the entrance money on his own and I dont say that about many players. I forgot to mention he had a very well founded reputation around the town as a ladies man and I heard several tales about his lets say 'Prowess' during his time with the club.
  8. Players I hate, wow where do I start:- Most hated player of all time (ever) Dennis Wise argumentative good for nothing midget, extremely overrated as a player, real wind up merchant with next to no talent, it is the saddest comment I can make about any English manager that Wise actually got an England cap (Graham 'Turnip Head' Taylor) I think. Robbie Savage for all the above reasons except he's not a midget and he's not English (thankfully). As already mentioned by someone Dean Windass, nowhere near the player he thinks he is (fat git), hated when he equalised for Bradford a couple of seasons ago at BP last game of the season (a goal that would have sent us down had we not scored again to win 2-1) his celebration nearly caused a riot (fat git). Lee Trundle, if he was as good as he thinks he is he would be playing in the Premiership, but he doesn't and he never will. Used to absolutely hate Lee Dixon (and still do), he thought him and Arsenal had a god given right to win, he hated it when Rick holden got the better of him. That will do for now but I've barely got started.
  9. I'd prefer to play weaker opposition at home and try and progress a few rounds in the competition, the big tie will eventually come (provided we keep beating the weaker teams I was talking about ).
  10. Overall a very good performance against very moderate opposition it has to be said but 4-1 is a pretty emphatic win. I thought we passed and moved really well and to be honest outclassed Mansfield. The scorline in no way flattered us and it could really have been more. The defence was in the main very solid, although Eardley in the first half was way off his game (he was better in the second half). Gregan as usual won everything in the air and Thompson and Giddings looked solid and did well. Kalala and Allott as usual worked their socks off to win the ball and Kilkenny was always there waiting to pick it up. Davies had another excellent game (we really have found a gem) as has been said great pace and strength. He scored one and made two - enough said.
  11. I think we will play a pretty strong team but I'm sure that will still give Shez a chance to field one or two younsters aswell, to give them valuable and much needed experience.
  12. Your mate was right Gregan had a great game and was my clear MoM, but he could and on many occasions would have gone as he squared up to one of their players on the half way line and then raised his hand and pushed the player in the face. All right in front of the referee who chose to ignore it and carried on with the game (he wont always get so lucky). We actually could have had three sent off on Saturday as on other days both Ricketts and Allott might have also gone, as well as the Swansea thug Tate who tried to decapitate Kilkenny at one point and didn't even get booked.
  13. Thanks for the link, some decent efforts and some not so decent, Allott
  14. Nick Henry was a great little player who along with Mike Milligan were the engine room of our successful early 90's team. Extremely hardworking and willing runner who really made the team tick. He used to get forward more than Milligan who played more of a holding role which allowed Henry to get forward. He chipped in with some very useful goals, none more important than the one he scored away in our 1-0 win at Aston Villa when we won our last three games to survive in the Premiership in 1992/93. That goal also confirmed Manure as champions that day as I always remind them. Great little player and a real grafter for the team, he played a massive part in our success and his contribution should not be underestimated. Latics Legend
  15. The reason I said that was that I heard some totally uncalled for, uneccessary and scathing criticism of him by a couple of absolute balloons in the main stand upper tier during the Sheff Wed game.
  16. I think Allott, Kalala and Davies have looked really good since arriving. I've voted for Davies as he has shown great ability and enthusiasm and is a very exciting prospect for the coming season, but I think Allott and Kalala have done great and will continue to do so. Of the other signings Ricketts is pretty much what I expected, he will score goals at this level but will probably never be a fans favourite. Crossley and Thompson both worry me slightly, Crossley is a good shot stopper but his inability/unwillingness to come off his line will definately cause us problems and will cost us goals this season. Thompson although looking good in the air doesn't seem as decisive and sure footed as I would like, he needs to build up a relationship with Gregan and Crossley quickly so they are on the same wavelength otherwise this is also going to lead to us conceding more soft goals.
  17. There is still at least one bird (not an owl) suspended from the Main Stand roof, I believe it is intended to keep pigeons away but it doesn't work as the row of seats directly under the central beam is always covered in bird muck.
  18. I'm not sure he had another season in him, he really struggled towards the end of last season. He did a good job for us though and good luck to him.
  19. It's all already been said on this thread, just to add I think this is a brilliant signing and has filled me with optimism for the coming season, bring it on.

    Full Backs

I agree with you on a couple of points BFL. I also dont think you are going to get these full backs who are rock solid defensively, but can bomb forward and overlap and produce pinpoint crosses but still get back, at our level if they are that good they are playing at a higher level. I also share your concerns about Alan Wright and his height (or lack of it) with Eardley at right back as well, we would have easily the smallest full backs in the division by some way and teams will notice this and exploit it. I think it would make us very vulnerable to far post crosses as these two aren't going to win much in the air and would result in the centre halfs being dragged out of position trying to cover for them.
  21. I dont recall that particular incident but it must have looked very strange, I dont suppose they found it either (talk about a needle in a haystack).
  22. Just expressing your opinion (personal preference), nothing wrong with that. I suspect the main reason I like it is nostalgic.
  23. It's incredible that our 1966 TANGERINE kit has been put in Room 101 (whats wrong with it?) and by whom (just one persons opinion I expect). Compared with some of the absolutely diabolical kits on there, I can see nothing wrong with the tangerine kit and I'm really glad it's been resurrected for this season (I'll be buying one anyway).
  24. Maybe it's supposed to read 45 years.
