  1. Coco....You have not grasped any of my points at all, but then you grasp few.... Thank you futcher ......Right on I want to be successful in my career.......However as I lost my job a few weeeks back I realise that in order to do that I have to first get a job, apply my skills and find out exactly where I can make progress. I need to work out where my skills will work best and learn all I can in order to help myself and the company progress. That will not happen overnight and it may take a few years to get where I want to be. What I do have is the skills and experience to make it happen. Is that anology too hard for you to grasp Coco or is it beyond you? Personally Carl I would hope after a season in charge - No I would expect so have seen enough changes for me to see a different latics emerging. One that has a different aura about it and in a perfect world one that has a body of fans that gets right behind the team and is devoid of the Coco's of this world who seem to do nothing but castigate and wallow in a sea of despair. You say you will only attend a few games if any next season Coco ...Please tell me which ones you WILL attend when the seasons fixtures do come out and I will avoid them ...If there is one thing I hate when going to a match is the risk of being sat next to someone who constantly moans. Jeesh I bet your freaking wonderful at partys Lookers Carl ?? I used to sell Peugot for them when they were at Huddersfield Road - happy days
  2. quote name='Hometownclub' date='Apr 16 2009, 09:50 AM' post='247778'] Worst thread EVER. Its absolutely stupid to be saying a manager with a proven and successful track record both here and at Everton, Citeh and Ipswich is not the right man for the job after only 6 games. Given some time Joe will do a good job at this club as he did here before. Some of our fans really are ridiculous. 10000% Agree..... Hellooooo any brain cells alert enought to REALLY look back to the start of Joe's first stint as Manager?. When he first came to latics he was told we had no money, had to sell players, stave off relegation and he had no youth squad. It was his first position and the first few seasons were grim and I think those who remember those days in all honesty were not sure what would come first - The closure of the club or relegation. But he had a sense of values, ideals and a mission - Dont forget he learned his trade under Harry Catterick a real ''old school manager'' None of us could have dreamt that he would take us where he did. The 2nd Division title, The top flight of English football, A league Cup final and two FA Cup semi finals. With the squad we had we were punching way above our weight but never the less he took us there. In the years that he has gone the club has had a succession of managers and failed administration. The club has been on the brink of closure and the so called fans that flocked to BP in days of old have now got back on the bus to go watch City or United. Look what he has taken on again...A club with no money, a team that struggles to compete in the 3rd teir, 3/4 of a ground - He has almost come into a worst scenario than he took on last time round. Now there are some cloth heads saying that Joe is not the the job? Jeesh he has hardly got his feet back under the desk and the grim reapers are out again. I dont care that we havent won under Joe yet nor do I care if we dont win any of the remaining games - Nice if we do but not a cause for concern. What I DO care about is seeing JR have a damn good look at every player that is on the clubs books and that he gives those with a whiff of promise the opportunity for a run out. What I DO want is to see is players responding to the best of their abillities to the words of a coach who has played at the highest level, managed in the top flight and can help them become better players - IF they listen. I am sure Joe has looked around and thought S**t this is a worse mess than I thought. Having said that JR in my opinion has all it takes to turn it round providing he is given time to do it. You want instant success then turn then fill the kettle and switch it on - It will boil cos the power is there. Put the key in your cars ignition and the car will start - As long as there is fuel there and everything works ok .......Success We have no fuel, we have no power and not a lot works at the momment. Success therefore cant be achieved However if JR is given the time then I DO believe that he will sort out a team that is capable of taking us back to the championship - There is much to do and there will be mistakes made and surprising successes along the way. I myself am more than happy to stay in this division for another two or three seasons if it means that an infrastructure is created on the playing side that gives us players that die on the pitch for latics, young players eager to step up to the plate and we end up ina position that when we DO get promotion we are more than equipped to consolodate our position. There is not a a better man with the experience that JR has to do this job - We are lucky to have got him as it is, We have a manager that has a passion and a love for Oldham ....Give the big man the chance to get on with the job
  3. GOOD then thats one miserable, fickle face that we wont have to contend with first game of the season. I am praying for Southampton away first game (for purely selfish reasons). However...First game home or away wherever it is, me, my daughter and my three year old grandson ( his first game ) will be there The fickle ones will return as soon as there is the sniff of promotion .....just like they have always done
  4. I was in the chaddy end with my two young kids watching the Sunderland game. A guy next to me had a radio and mentioned that Liverpool fans were causing trouble at the cup game - By half time all kinds of stories were filtering around. We drove back to the Isle of Wight and it was only when we were on the ferry that we met a couple of Liverpool fans and they told me and a couple of fans from other clubs what had really happened. One lad from Sandown said he had screamed at police to get the fences down and the gate open as people were being crushed and that was 10 mins before kick off - He said that the cops were just pushing people back and were just not interested. He said he reckoned there were about 40 dead and maybe another 100 injured Dreadful day - I look back at some of the games Ive been to in my life and think Goddd it could so easily have happend at so and so match. Some of the fences that penned us in were nothing but death traps. How many of us remember the spinning razor pointed metal barbs on top of the fences at the old Goldstone ground or the razor barb wire at Selhurst Park to name just two places. We were treated like scum and cattle then. If you were a football fan you were the lowest of the low. Expected to pay stupid prices we were escorted to and from many grounds then expected to dig deep again for poor food and filthy toilets. It took 96 people to die for the claret swiggers to open their eyes and do something.....Not forgetting Bradford not long before. Remember where I was that day ....Oh yes I remember
  5. My dream would be a Royle, Donachie partnership again ...Id even like to contemplate a Royle - Ritchie set up ..... Joe will stay I am sure -- But IF he doesent then having had a good look at what hes achieved with Stockport County then Gannon wouldnt be a bad bet Why on Earth has Holloway been mentioned - There would be more chance of my dog being manager ...........
  6. I guess we will see more of these Lings as time goes by I dunno why Sainsburys have to resort to French words any way - What a sad bunch of Bass-tards they are
  7. You need to check for any notices on lamp posts or street signs. For sure here on the IOW there are roads with ''Restricted access'' Basically there needs to be plenty of room for emergency vehicles to access the road and attend to any emergency. If by parking in that particular spot you are causing a possible obstruction then you are at fault. Having said that I think you will find that the council has a moral responsibillity to make sure that any parking restrictions that are made as a result of local by laws have to be made clear and there has to be a notice within 50 meters of the restricted area. If they havent done that then there is an argument that says you could not, in fairness, be expected to know it was a restricted parking zone. Some roads with restricted access are obvious. If cars cannot pass each other along the road without having to pull in to let one by and traffic legitamatly parks along one side of the road, then there is a clear restriction of access and an offence is clearly committed. Cul De Sacs are a very common example of roads that have restricted access, especially where there are commercial or recreational buildings at the end of the road. If cars are parked in such a way that access by Fire, Ambulance or Police vehicles is impossible or very diificult then there is a real danger and risk to life in the worse case scenario. Here on the island where many roads are single tracked or 3/4 wide there are signs and notices indicating right of way, parking restrictions etc. There is a balance that has to be struck and an obligation on your part as much as the council's. It does not take a genius to work out that if cars are parked both sides of a road and it would be impossible for a large truck to pass down the road then you should have the common sense to realise that you could be causing an obstruction. If however, it is clear that even if cars are parked both sides of the road cars can pass each other by easily you have a case. Its a bit different to the case highlighted where the girl was remonstrating with the warden about her clearly immovable car - I would hope that she would appeal against that ticket. The warden himself should be repremanded and given some training in customer care, that particulat incident is ridiculous and I cannot believe that a court would enforce a parking penalty in that instance I do not believe the old story that a parking warden is out to issue as many tickets as he can or has a quota to meet. 99% of the time if you get a ticket then you get it because you know you were parked where you shouldnt. As in many jobs though you will come accross some people who apply the letter of the law ridgedly. There are I am sure though parking wardens that are either new to the job or not 100% up on local by laws who fix a penalty notice without checking that they have the right to do so. You said you had not recieved a penalty notice, just a warning that the area is a restricted parking zone. In that case you do not have a penalty to pay and its a polite warning not to park there again. If so then I would respect that warning because it may well be that your reg details are held somewhere and if your vehicle is seen in a restricted area again then you will get a ticket. I am sure it varies from area to area but I find that in many places if you arrive back and see a warden about to apply a ticket then its common sense to either admit your 'crime' and pay the fine or grovel and apologise to the warden, digging into your excuse reserves to come up with something convincing that might dissuade them from penalising you and give you a verbal slap instead. But then maybe the easiest way to avoid a ticket is to pay the £3.00 parking charge in the official car park and walk two minutes to the turnstiles
  8. Southampton will go down anyway with or without a ten point deduction - Most saints fans here are resigned to it. It will be great to be able to leave the house at 1.30pm to watch latics instead of bollox o'clock in the morning
  9. My daughter was mascot for latics at Loftus Road when latics were promoted > Sadly due to a house fire we lost the only two copies we had. It would be fantastic if we could get a copy - Refresher ....We won 3-1 that day after coming from behind. My daughter ran out in a red bovis away kit. I will happily pay up to £20.00 for a good copy or £10.00 for a copy with the odd tea stain. If any one has a copy please could they contact me and perhaps it could be posted from the latics shop and I will send the money attention the senders name care of the latics shop. Email me at pete.callan@tiscali.co.uk
  10. I hope we sign him -- Looks like a good front right foot, Will contribute to the pitch as well.....I just hope he has played the required number of internationals to qualify for a permit.. I think he can do defence on his own so we can just focus on midfield and attack If you include Hughes thats the second animal we have found with sooo much potential !!!
  11. As someone who has worked in the travel business for several years now I thought it prudent to advise latics fans thinking in of holidaying on the Isle of Wight this year. 1. Due to the increase in drug trafficking on the Island passports are now checked and photocopied at Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington. 2. Anyone who has not gone any form of photgraphic ID will not be allowed to board a ferry. This includes people who have already booked accomodation prior to travel. 3. The Island is moving towards a free state status. This has been going on for a while now and as of today visitors bringing their vehicles will need to display one of the following letters in their car wind screen. R - Resident, T - Tourist, VFF - Visiting friends and family or M - Migrant. This does not apply to commercial vehicles, or lorrys. 4. Anyone who is planning to stay on the island in excess of 14 days will have to contact the Isle of Wight DVLA to arrange a 30 minute driving test and this will be at a cost of £14.00 and is designed to help motorists become used to the differences in driving here. Please contact April Strethfir at the Newport Driving centre. 5. If you wish to book a cabin instead of a seat on the IOW ferries these are now available free of charge on a first come, first served basis - You need to contact the ferry operator direct. 6. The Isle of Wight introduced the Euro several years ago. This was withdrawn after the treasury refused to accept it as legal tender on the mainland. It is now legal tender throughout the UK and therefore the IOW Euro is our recognised currency and from today the £ will only be accepted at ferry terminals. 7. If you are moving to the island to reside here please be aware that after 90 days you will need to re register your car. The Isle of Wight has its own prefix starting AF and the police do carry out roadside checks from time to time - Fines are very heavy. 8. If you are considering moving to the island to live please be aware of the new Migrant rules that have been imposed by the Isle of Wight Council. The IOW currently has the highest unemployment rate in the country. Construction and Engineering is at an all time low therefore there are few opportunities for migration here. Waiters, Kitchen Porters and hotel workers are required throughout the summer and can apply for a temporary work permit. Please contact your local job centre for form A1P904RI09L. Completed forms should then be sent to any prospective emplyers. 9. Finally please note that unless you have a pre paid funeral plan you are no longer allowed to die on the island UNLESS you are a resident. Any deaths will be regarded as an offence under local bylaw IOW NONE RES/ 01/04. 10. Finally DO check your passports - You need a validity of 14 months minimum to allow you to pass through IOW customs - The usual restrictions regarding what you are allowed to bring into EU countries apply with the addition that we no longer allow the importation of Bees, Rabbits, Hamsters or Carrots
  12. So in a nutshell Jade Goody DID bring smear tests to the fore didnt she? Now Kookie if by doing that she gets it all splashed over the media and by her ever so public dying wakes people up then its all good isnt. Just when was the last time you had your prostrate checked, or had a full medical? And lets be honest - If you could give up your job and make as much money she has in so short a space of time you would damn well do it. No one said she was a messiah but its nice to leave your mark when you go....If you or I went tommorow then aside from friends or family who the is gonna care or even know you existed ... Just what have YOU done that has made such an impact on life in Britain ? What is your problem with her? Is it she appeared stupid? - Shes left a lot more than you or I will Is it that you think everyone who hasnt had a smear test is a ? -- A lot more will now thanks to her and that has to be good You picked up those mags and read them - You read about JG ......Guess what ? You had a choice, no one asked you to read them, I cant stand Peter freaking Andre and freaking katie what size should I have my tits this week Price ...so If they come on telly I turn the thing over and I dont buy mags with them in it. Now just think ...If you had just picked up national Geographic instead you could have had a rant about the effect on the Pataguwana Tribe in Central America of deforestation and the the destruction of primeval habitats. Instead you picked up Celebrity Waffle weekly -- Your mistake
  13. Ive got a bit of conjestion ..well I think I have it started as a tickley cough. Im very worried now though - Does that mean I get taxed on it? If so is it a blanket tax or do I get taxed per cough? How would they know the difference between a cough that is part of my conjestion or a polite cough ( the ones I do to cover up farts when the Mrs has her friends round) I really dont need this new after such a poor season
  14. I agree that passion on the park has been a major factor Bosh - In fact probably responsible for us still being where we are. I make no apology for being a hard nosed Royalist and if anyone can instill that passion on the pitch with his players then its the big man himself
  15. If you read my post then you didnt read it properly 1.I have said that Joe needs a 2/3 year contract > I also said that we may have to wait two seasons for his input to bear fruit, better that than go up with a side that is not equipped to compete at Championship level. 2.Why on Earth as a supporter of 28 years do you think that JR will not be nurturing his youngsters. I have supported latics for 40 years man and boy and recall that the first arguement he had with Stotty was about scrapping the youth team. He insisted that it was paramount to have a youth set up.. There were three particular attributes Joe was known for in his last stint at BP * He cultivated a youth set up, allowing players at a young age to progess through the ranks, learn their trade and graduate to the 1st team squad. * He generated revenue for this small club by selling on gifted youngsters to the top clubs when they had reached a time when both the player looked for a move and the club needed to cash in on the value of their home grown talent. * He laid down a set of ground rules and terms of conduct that he enforced throughout his team, He learned from a master of discipline in Harry Catterick - Granted with players having more freedom of contract than he had in his own playing days and therefore more power, he still instilled an order and set of valued that he expected adhered to on and off the pitch. If there is (Ive said this a trillion times) one particular attribute that JR has is his abillity to develope a complete set up and bring forth talent. You need to read the posts better Andy...I am very very surprised that in 28 years of following Oldham you never looked at the team sheet and saw just how many players Joe brought through to the first teams squad from his youth team And 28 years a supporter ..Ok well While I confess that I cant attend every game due to work and where I live I attend a fair few every season home and away and ave done for 40 years. I too have witnessed the highs and lows from sitting outside BP as a kid crying and waiting for news hoping my 4th Division team would not fold to the joys of walking down Wembley Way to see us in our first cup final. Gannon may well be working with a sows ear at Stockport but Joe knows the farmyard here, knows many of the hands, and better still has a love and an affinity with the club. Gannon - Well it will just be another job to him JR IS the man to take us forward - Lets hope the appointment is confirmed before the end of the season
  16. This topic is going round and round - We have to move forward and I accept that after the Tranmere game Joe must have thought ' Bloody hell theres a lot more work needed than I imadgined' Who is to say that he hasnt already had discussions with AH and SC and made it crystal what he believes the problems are ? Its allready been said that the club couldnt afford to keep Hughes anyway. Look around where we are and tell me the viable options open to us...Dont freakin spout on after three games that JR isnt going to cut the mustard without giving me for one a decent available prospect for Manager - Jim from Stockport Or keith from Rochdale ? thats all Ive heard so far thats one team thats not going up from our divsion and another thats going to do the playoffs (And not ness win them) in Div 2 -- Great !!!!!! As has been said, Joe has inherited a team from Sheridan who are simply not good enough and thats the end of it. Sure there are players that he may be able to use but there are several that are just not good enough for div 1 football let alone the championship. So personally while I take on board some of the comment made I do belive that JR is given the task to build his own team - And his CV shows that he can bring in players that will work his way. I am not going to go off on some romantic rant and say we can all look forward to a couple of good cup runs and instant promotion next season but, JR has the credentials, the experience and the contacts to be able to take apart the damage that has been done and to create a team that will run out on Boundary park with the desire to win - Something that has been lacking for a long while
  17. Arghhh we havent even ended this season and you ist vorrying about next season....Mein got you REALLY believe Zat Hughes is going to be impossible to replace? Litzen to me I vill say Ziss just vonce mein Herr ve have just appointed a man who has more experience, more knowledge, more charisma and more freaking tactical know how zan any other manager in zer lower leagues. JR doesent just make a silk purse out of a sows ear nein nein he clones du friking ear and having done zat sells ze ears at und profit and zen brings in ze better pigs with ze better ears to make ze better silk purses. Now assuming zat hasnt whooshed over your head dumpf kof, take ze chill pill , panic no more and be more concerned about Herr AH and Herr SC signing JR up to a 2 or 3 year contract. Zare vos life before Hughes and zare vill be life after Hughes, zare vill be better players come to the fore und zare vill be so many changes over dur next few months you vill sit down and, trust me, just like zat frau you vere crazy about years ago and now cannot even remember what zer frik she look like, zo zare vill come und time soon ven you vill vunder why on ze Earth you vere vorried about Hughes...... If you need mein couch again zen it is 75 Euros an hour but ziss time for u it ist free
  18. What Joe does have now is the remaining games to experiment with. Lets accept the playoffs are over for us bar the maths. Even if we had won today we would still be 5 points adrift and having played a game more than our rivals. Joe has time to look at players in more detail, play around with strategy and plenty of time to discuss with SC and AH where the club is going. I stick with my convictions that in JR we have the right man to take us back to the Championship. It might even take two seasons to do it but I believe that if Joe is allowed to manage as he has done in the past and he can bring in players then we will eventually have a squad that is not only capable of going up, but will be good enough to hold its own when it does get promoted. I think there will be a few leaving BP in the summer and a few new faces on the team sheet next season. I also agree that Shez had peaked - I think he was too much one of the lads and a Manager has to be able to hold the full respect of his team and keep a certain distance from them. Joe will do that and will tolerate no nonesense. Hopefully we will see a few impressive performances from players in the remaining games that havent shined much or been given the chance to.
  19. The gloom tag wasnt directed at you Wozz ...and I take on board your comments mate ...it was more directed at another poster who seems to always assume the worst ... After the sport page they probably go to the Obituary page ...Just to make sure they are alive today
  20. I agree - My dog pooed outside my next door neighbours gate this morning and he supports Arsenal which is anothet London club - Shes never done that before so its an Omen
  21. I like that one lol good on ...I think the huge transparent crest and the two mini scarves in my back window will also provide the link :P
  22. Joe has already said we couldnt AFFORD to keep Hughes it was more a question of finance than anything ....Mind you Joe has always been a strict one when it comes to behaviour ....Joes team are proffessional on the park and off it and he wont mess around shipping prima donnas or idiots out. There will be a lot of new faces at BP and a lot of changes as regards strategy, training and attitude -- Those that didnt experience the glory years are gonna be blown away me thinks
  23. I think I am pretty safe with my OL04 HAM ....and even displayed correctly youd have to have the brain of a piece of pankton to not know what it is meant to say
