  1. 45 Predictors, 10 new Predictors, Just over 24 hours to go; It would be great to see some more respected OWTB contributors - names taken from Leaderboard - join before tomorrow. Financial contribution to Prediction League not only provides prize money for Leagues and Cup competitions but also rasies money for both Playershare and Dr Kershaws Hospice.
  2. I think there's a good chance Noblot will come straight back down....
  3. I mean..... even the most ardent opponent of my marketing of Prediction League will sympathise with me using this gift horse as an opportunity to plug the league..... http://www.owtb.co.uk/index.php?/forum/78-owtb-prediction-league/
  4. Just over 48 hours to go with a record 43 Predictors already signed up.... 8 out of 10 Predictors who joined last year have now renewed..... We have 8 new Predictors this coming season, including some big OWTB names and personalities..... it would be great to see some more of those names too. NewBlue and Carl Waters..... your Prediction League Premier League status is reserved only until Saturday.
  5. It goads you doesn't it.... to see the league go from strength to strength without your inclusion. All you have to do is join the Championship and work your way back up again, following your decision not to participate last season. Ball's in your court.
  6. With 3 days to go, we're now up to 40 Predictors. For those of you who've not participated before, of the 10 Predictors who joined last season, 70% are signed up for this season already - which hopefully demonstrates that it's been enjoyable for them. We have 7 new Predictors for 2017/18..... why not join them?
  7. Kinell. He'll do well here..... After conceding a goal from a free-kick taken by Jerome Okimo from inside his own half during a 2–1 defeat to Stevenage,[14] Wilson became embroiled in a row with Wimbledon supporters after he received criticism of his performance on social media website Twitter. Wilson responded to the messages by posting you're still paying to watch me every week and helping towards my wage, I'm laughing and you're losing out.[15][16] His loan spell was cut short ahead of schedule two days later on 14 December 2015.[17]
  8. Stevie, Gravity Grave I believe has paid up.....?...... which would take your PL Predictors up to 17....?
  9. Things you can rely on always being the same; The sun rising in the east and setting in the west. The freezing cold temperature at Ice Station Zebra, no matter what time of year. Birth, Death & Taxes. disjointed Predicting 0-0 & 1-1 as his opening gambit.
  10. Great news MAC. As a little reminder for everyone else, this is all you need to do; Entry is £10 for the season, to be paid via PayPal to stevie_j@owtb.co.uk (note the underscore - may be best to copy and paste the address and please leave your OWTB username in the PayPal message box) or PM Stevie_J for account details for BACS transfer. Some time before the opening game - but no later than 10 mins before KO, post your prediction in the Oxford (H) thread* - link below - as I have demonstrated in this thread above/as follows; Latics 4 Oxford 1 (HT 2-0) First Scorer: Craig Davies Att: 5,871 *There is an individual thread for each of the 46 league games. A league table(s) will be published after each round of games. Best of luck.
  11. Prediction League in numbers; - 5 days to go. - 33 players signed up already for 2017/18 (inc Bristolatic & Stevie_J) - 6 new Predictors - 59 Predictors in total since Prediction League began in 2011/12 - 6 ever present Predictors
  12. Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Jake Kean is in talks over a move to an undisclosed club. #swfc
  13. Nice one singe. 1. Entry is £10 for the season, to be paid via PayPal to stevie_j@owtb.co.uk (note the underscore - may be best to copy and paste the address and please leave your OWTB username in the PayPal message box) or PM Stevie_J for account details for BACS transfer. 2. You will see your OWTB name appear in the list of Predictors, below; 3. Some time before the opening game - but no later than 10 mins before KO, post your prediction - as example below - in the Oxford (H) thread*, link below. Latics 4 Oxford 1 (HT 2-0) First Scorer: Craig Davies Att: 5,871 *There is an individual thread for each of the 46 league games. A league table(s) will be published after each round of games. Best of luck.
  14. Final installment of this week's tactics/admin & mind games surrounds the OWTB Cup. Ostensibly a knock out tournament, like the FA Cup of OWTB..... everyone is entered before being whittled down to the Final 2 come the end of the season. For the last 2 seasons, owing the number of participants, the 1st round has begun as a group phase - a bit like the World Cup or the Euros - consisting of 8 groups, with the Top 2 qualifying for the straight knock out rounds, a Round of 16, QF's, SF's and Final. Stevie_J and the little_J's tape the draw's - to ensure no foul play - and post them in the Cup thread, see example below; The games and therefore your Predictions occur during standard weeks [League One matches] between January and May, the schedule of which Stevie_J will inform us of in good time. Potential replay weeks are also accounted for. Literally no stone is left unturned. This means that while Predicting for standard League points, you will be competing against 1 other Predictor in the OWTB Cup at the same time during these weeks.... and where you may wish to consider employing the late Prediction or dummy post? The 2016/17 OWTB Cup was won by youngen of the Championship in his rookie season. This was his route to Wembley to lift the trophy; Round 1 - Group C 14th Jan Gillingham (H) BJ Blue 0-2 youngen 28th Jan Bradford (H) youngen 0-0 Handsy 11th Feb Coventry (H) LaticsChris 5-2 youngen 25th Feb Millwall (H) youngen 5-2 oafc1895 Tables after group games, where 'boring boring' youngen scraped through as runner up after scoring a paltry 9 points across his 4 games; To be fair to young youngen, he came alive in the knock out stages and blasted his way past some big Premier League names in Ex_Pat and Stevie_J before winning a tense affair in the final; R2; 11th Mar Bury (H) LaticsPete 1-3 youngen Q/F:25th Mar Sheff U (H) youngen 4-1 Ex_pat S/F: 8th Apr Fleetwood (H) Stevie_J 0-6 youngen Final: 22nd Apr Dogdale (H) youngen 1-0 Handsy Alas, youngen's league season ended in disappointment as he missed out on his second Wembley trip by losing out to JoeP - who removed his 'bottler' tag in the process - in the Play Offs. Like Latics in 1990/91 however, you'd imagine without a Cup distraction this coming season, he'll be a favourite for automatic promotion. If you're sufficiently intrigued, please take a look at the Prediction League Forum below.
  15. ....you & me both. It could however be argued that you are defending one of the symptoms of this broken system..... that it's a football players right to preference a contract that would rarely see him play competitively in favour of more £ notes, thereby taking money out of the system while at the same time contributing very little back. A la a greedy banker.
  16. Allow me to elaborate. I had a healthy discussion with a Spurs fan t'other day, who was waxing lyrical about their new multi hundred million pound football stadium, tens of million pound footballers on £100k's per week, enough to be able to field a 3rd 11 that could compete in League One.... and so on.... ....yet, get him onto the Free Market Economy, the City of London and the need for regulation, the ever widening gap between richest and poorest, food banks, the redistribution of wealth through higher taxation.... and so on.... and he's an entirely different animal. So I asked him, do you not think the Premier League should be subject to tighter regulation and Spurs taxed more to redistribute wealth throughout the football league pyramid to ensure it didn't collapse and their wasn't 'a run on football club' through a lack of liquidIty like there was a run on Northern Rock.... and he takes a different view. I'm just wondering where the hypocracy starts & ends.
  17. Would you say the same about an investment banker earning millions in the city making short term decision to line his/her pocket with £millions, even if it meant that the health of the economy was risked?
  18. Good stuff. All you've now got to do, is whack a Prediction for Oxford at home in here..... sometime between now and 10 mins before KO..... .....and then wait for the tables to be Published by Bristolatic.... before repeating the exercise in the Walsall (a) thread the following week. I'll explain how the Cup works later this week. Great to have you aboard. Hopefully a few more respected members of the OWTB community will join you/us before next Saturday.
  19. In this week's second edition of tactics/admin and mind games, we'll have a look at the dummy post and the last minute amendment. Early Predictions for Oxford at home - 10 days away - are continuing to be made. Let's have a look at this little number by one of this season's new comers, Scapegoat; You could be fooled for immediately assuming Scapegoat is unaware Dan Gardner is banned for the first 3 games of the new season, following a sending off he received for Chesterfield away at Sheffield United on the final game of last season.... and it may well be that this rookie has a lot to learn. However, you should be on the look out for the unscrupulous dummy post. It's very easy to get dragged in to what others are Predicting, as I know to my own cost, especially as the season draws to a close, or when there is a Cup weekend - something we'll look at later this week. Here, from Southend Away in 2015/16, I've been influenced by others' attendance predictions and then schooled by 24hoursfromtulsehill in the aftermath; Which allows me to move onto the last minute amendment. For those trying to sell a dummy, or making a perfectly genuine amendment at the 11th hour..... be aware of that 10 minute before KO rule referenced a couple of times in this thread already. Here Laticsbiffo's amended Prediction occurred 4 mins before KO for Peterborough at Home, possibly because on arrival at the ground had realised this was the Free Entry game that Simon Corney was entertaining a Chinese contingent; If you're sufficiently intrigued, please take a look at the Prediction League Forum below.
