  1. Maybe we should see if that Paul Scholes lad would be interested???
  2. What I find incredible is that (according to the BBC stats) with 20 mins to go we have not had a shot on target!! I still can't understand how, since Christmas we have had so many games where we#vre created so little, although given our strikers records it probably doesn't really matter how many chances we create!! It's going to be a funny old season, absolutely no idea what to expect but Corney was pretty clear this week that the only target is survival and he thinks even that's punching above our current weight
  3. 4-1 with 30 mins to go, sounds like Col U could have had ten according to the reports
  4. ...and from the half time rport "Reid burst into the box and was brought down..." so if he's creating the penalties then so much the better! Sounds like Colchester could have had six though and PD had to make tactical changes early on
  5. Just listened to it and very, very impressed. The other key point that he made is that he is spending half his week away from his family and his wife is a New Yorker and really wants to live there. Latics has been a financial and to some extent personal diaster for SC but he doesn't come across as bitter and has stuck it out, partly because he has to as he so heavily invested in it, but it seems to me that he is sticking it out because it's the right thing to do and because he's an honourable bloke. Simon Blitz is the big money man and understandably got fed up after six years but he has struck a deal with SC and Latics in terms of the ground/land and the club is on a relatively stable footing. I wasn't going to go to Colchester tomorrow but I am now! Thank you TTA
  6. Listening to Radio Humberside (only stream I can get in Eastern Europe!!)and fair play to their Manager; refused to blame the ref or any controversial issues and said they got what the deserved.... whereas their fans are all texting and phoning in to say we were dirty, ref robbed them, we were the worst team they've seen etc etc
  7. that's as down as I've heard PD sound since he joined us. Very worrying but the issue is lack goals from open play, in fainress, a pretty hard problem to solve if you have no money these days. we've tried the non-league route and maybe Smith will come good but it's not realistic to expect him to on his own.
  8. £££ + have you seen Brighton's new stadium? It's stunning + frankly, Brighton are as big a club as Leicester
  9. Ok, so taking your argument to the extreme, why do we bother with the present cost of the youth and reserve teams (must be many tens of thousands if you add all the costs including coaches salaries etc)? Why not scrap the whole thing and invest the money on a better quality line up of 20+ pros. The reserves and youth add no value in terms of gates, interest in the club etc....unless a gem happens to come through the ranks but what have they cost us by the time they become first team players.
  10. "Sky diving Hippo" love it....why did I immediately think of Dean Windass??!! I accept it would take time and you have to progressivly move to this system and can't do it in a couple of seasons but, I'm not sure it couldn't be done....our own "La Mesia". It is no conincidence that Barcelona players know exactly what they're doing, most of them have played together since they were 8 years old. I honestly believe money put it to our own school (and it could be like the Barca model, ie actually a school) would be a better investment than paying wages to the likes of Feeney etc.
  11. Absolutely agree! It's hard to get excited with a new team everyear. I seriously think we should go back to basics and only play local players who have ideally come through our system, put more money in to that and re-invest any fees we get form the gems. I don't know why thirs division clubs are signing foreign mercenaries and journeymen who have never heard of Oldham
  12. ...from Sky Sports.... The 19-year-old snubbed the offer for personal reasons because he wants to be closer to his family in London or return to his native France. Evina joined Oldham in January on short-team deal after being released by Premier League giants Arsenal. The news of his desire to move south is likely to alert a number of clubs following his impressive performances at Boundary Park. Having initially joined Oldham on loan last summer, Evina went on play 28 times last season and score two goals.
  13. On the whole I agree with you, I also question if he is a real Latics fan. I'm not sure he would be too worried about being kicked...he could always kick them back...or "tackle" them, which in Scholes' case is the same thing. My only frustration with this whole thing is the club do now have the opportunity to put it to bed once and for all but also to show a little imagination. It would be really sad to find out in a few years that he would have said yes but nobody asked him! (and I refer again to the World Cup and Capello not trying soon enough to speak to him) The game is losing it's passion, romance and loyalty; what a fabulous message of hope this would send to the smaller teams.......sound of alarm clock ringing
  14. The point is we couldn't "tap him up" when he was a plyer but now he is just a coach, employed by ManU...he can do what he damn well likes...he is held in uch high respect that he could almost ceratinly cut a deal with Manu to hold a position open for him for a year or 2.
  15. Thinking about this, I really hope SC and PD show some imagination and get round to Mr Scholes house with a bottle of something decent and a video of the "pinch me" season and pursuade him to play for us for a season....why the feck not? I reckon one season of Scholesy would breathe new life into the club on so many levels; - Guaranteed a few hundred extra season tickets - Guaranteed that we'd be on TV at the first opportunity next season - Much greater media coverage generally which would attract more to BP - Investors may be attracted / encouraged - We'd be a more attractive loan destination for young strikers / midfielders - 1 man doesn't make a team but he'd certainly help!! Pipe dream?...maybe, but remember that Scholes admitted he had made a mistake retiring from England and Capello's attempt to change his mind came too late....in other words SC and PD, get the hell round there tonight or at least tell the media that we want him and he could help save the club
  16. ...like I said, he has a soft spot for us and brings his kids now and then but not sure that makes it "his beloved Oldham" as some like to think in the media and on here. Part of the problem with the game now is there is little romance, even less loyalty and money is the only driver. The debacle at FIFA and the financial state of most clubs in England are not entirely unconnected....money rules.
  17. I refer to my earlier post, why are so many convinced that he is a latics fan? He has a soft spot for us no doubt but he is United through and through now...isn't he on record as saying that? Good luck to the guy, fabulous player and a Gent off the field by all accounts but he has no relevance to Latics future. Premier league officials, players and most of the fans have no interest in 3rd division football and are quite happy to see it die.
  18. Does anyone seriously believe Scholes will sign for us?! I'm not even convinced he is a real Latics fan, just has a soft spot for us as his Dad supported us, which is fair enough. If Scholes was a fanatical Latics fan as some like to imagine, don't you think he might consider now was a good time to spend a bit of the millions he probably has in the bank? either on forgoing the money he could earn at glory seekers plc or in actually investing in the club.......never gonna happen I'm afraid
  19. I just don't get this "he'll have a pre-season to get fit" nonsense. He came to us 5 months ago. What the feck does he do all week? I manage to keep in better shape than him working 50 hours a week and getting to the gym a couple of times a week for an hour or two. At Swindon a couple of weeks ago he was pretty dreadful...overweight,slow,headless chicken. He's taken a pay cut to stay because no-one else will pay him anything I suspect. I'd much rather we were looking at strikers with a bit of pace in non-keague. I'd absolutely love to be proved wrong 'though!!
  20. Decent effort today, Latics fans in great voice and plenty of fancy dress....Gingerbread Man wins...hilarious! Two crackers from Taylor but he had to shoot as the only alternative was passing to Reid who was truly shocking again today. Lots of youngsters on show again, Tarky was solid alongside Mvoto but went off with a knock. Winchester was excellent at full back, really stuck to his task well. Feeney and Reid are not what we want up front so roll on the summer and see if PD can find a striker or two (although we're stuck with Fenney for another season right?) Overall, a good day out against a pretty feeble Swindon team
  21. In fact, all the sides below can catch us with their games in hand (assuming they don't play each other)....except, and crucially, any of the bottom 4 who all look in deep trouble
