  1. I see what you're saying... You're saying that playing for the Blues should be viewed as a privilege and an honour, and only those who live up to certain standards should be able to do it. That's fair enough. Anyone know of any football clubs that have similar attitudes to the character of their players and staff? I can think of only one: Arsenal - Tony Adams' old club.
  2. See my previous post. He gets a second chance whether or not you think he deserves one. Tough. Them's the breaks.
  3. I'm taking the side of Lee Hughes the man, because it's been decided that when you've served your time in prison, you come out and get on with your life as best you can. It's also been decided that the family of the victims or the victims of a crime do not get to decide the punishment. By the way, those things were decided a long long time ago, because the alternatives were barbaric. I sympathise with the family of the victim and the man who still suffers from his injuries, but there is a limit. They cannot be allowed to decide, by way of an over-sentimental plea, to decide the fate of someone who has suffered a legal and moral sanction and who wishes to come out the other side and get on with his life. Also, I take issue with Mr. Frisby for saying that he expects Hughes to re-offend. No one knows whether he will do so, least of all Mr. Frisby. Lastly, am I alone in having a slightly cynical response to the final sentence of Mr. Frisby's comments on the BBC website? "I have yet to receive any compensation for what has happened."
  4. ...but the club are doing a good thing. They are giving him a steady job with prospects, which is more than a lot get when they leave prison, which is why a lot end up back in prison. Even if he doesn't make the first team (I think he probably will, in time), there's so much that he can do. Psychologically, let alone physically, I don't think that he will be ready to play first team football 'til November or even later. Even so, he'll be working every day training and people ought to welcome that. It's definitely not a "mistake", even if he never plays for us.
  5. I wasn't at the game on Saturday, but I nominate Brentford away 2004/5 (?) (second half torrential rain) as the worst performance of recent times. Got really wet, too. Bloke needs to notch up a few of those before loose talk about "worst performance ever" IMO. By all accounts, we were unlucky to not get something on Saturday. Against Brentford that time, we were lucky to avoid attracting the attention of the trade descriptions people because of our non-resemblance to a football team. To make matters worse, there was some aggro between fans and between some fans and the GMP about That Flag. We are not as bad as that now.
  6. Posted, I notice, on the stroke of midnight. Are we assuming that things are all signed and sealed?
  7. That wasn't Dowie screwing his face up with a pained expression for 90 mins. That's how Dowie looks all the time.
  8. Ron Futcher. Moaner. Could not go two seconds without having a pop at the ref or team mates or all at the same time.
  9. All decent Catholics know full well that doing the deed isn't so bad as long as you say sorry. You can't beat St. Cuthberts, incidentally. Some of the finest people in the world were educated and corrupted there.
  10. Lucky escape from the barby at yours for some of the more vulnerable fans. We wouldn't want anyone ending up face down, arse up in someone's garden water feature again, would we?
  11. Perhaps we could club together and pay for lessons, which will take place at the same time as games. Is there any word yet on how come he reckons he's special?
  12. Bloke called Kev said he'd play for us, and he knows a few who'll be more than willing to fill in if we're short.
  13. The BBC reported on Saturday that Davies scored from a Smalley CORNER, and that Shez was sent off at the END of a bad-tempered game. Are they all rubbish?
  14. He must know that everyone thinks he's rubbish. Perhaps if people go up to him to tell him how good he is, he'll stop. Maybe everyone else should turn up with a drum, and he won't indulge in the mindless and absolutely incorrect thought that he is special.
  15. I swear that someone told me in the pub tonight that BigFin conceded that Liddel changed it for us in the second half.
  16. No it didn't. And the tool who beats it can . The Chaddy End's gain is not Oldham Yoof Orchestra's loss. If you're reading this mate, put the drum down. It's not that I don't like you personally - I am sure you're a little love just like your mum says - and it's not that drums are, in and of themselves, a bad thing. I want you to forget the drum because YOU HAVE NO TALENT.
  17. Frankly, I can scarcely give credit to the testament of my senses! You and others are using this very serious thread to talk about something as frivolous as emoticons. I am confounded that there are not more like me out there who are suffering paroxyms of grief at the heinous violation of natural justice suffered by L**ds and their fans - their wonderful, soulful and warm-hearted fans. Because of this scandal, I think that my interest in the sport might have come to a conclusion.
  18. Hamilton Academicals? I don't think it's right, I just like the name.
  19. I hate the football league because a team's standing should be decided on the pitch, not among the 70-odd chairmen and what-have-you. And I feel so soooo sorry for Leeds fans because they have suffered so much over the past few years what with that publicity Pete and that champions league semi and that. Sooo sorry... I probably wouldn't be as sympathetic if, say, Scunthorpe got deducted points in similar circumstances. The fact is that Leeds are a special, exceptional club whose fans are the salt of the earth. At the end of the day, that's who I feel sorry for the most - them beautiful, long-suffering fans.
  20. But the parents are such reasonable people! And junior's a little love, who just wants to bang his drum. (Oskar Matzerath, anyone?). Frankly, I just do not believe that such people could behave in such a squalid fashion.
  21. Surely the unnamed injury man won't let a little thing like a broken leg stop him from playing?
  22. What exactly was that police advice? I'm no great fan of Greater Manchester's finest, but I find it hard to believe that they would encourage you to deliberately provoke people. Also, I'm struggling to picture a manoeuvre by which a person can grab another person's ear and shout abuse down it without it being assault. Sometimes, when I'm feeling frisky, and if she's been good, I pin Mrs. 24hours' head to the floor and lick her ear. Was it like that? Mrs. 24hours calls the cops after such incidents, and I have to go to court to defend myself, but I don't really have a leg to stand on. If it was how you say it was in point 2, surely there would have been charges?
  23. Even before the blow up, I would have strongly urged you not to buy a bass drum, let alone bring it to the match. Also - I don't mean any offence - I've heard better drumming. In a way, it doesn't really matter how good you are or how much you practice because footy songs have enough rhythm of their own and a strange tempo. Everyone takes their lead from the people next to them or the people they can hear loudest. It's impossible to stick to a set rhythm, no one does, so the drum breaks the rhythm and tempo of the song. IMO. However, the main issue on the thread is the row and the fact that, because of it, one long standing fan and his family won't be going to the game because of it. Some of us think that it isn't right.
  24. Apologies for my part in that. Not clever.
