  1.

Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard - there is pretty much nothing that separates them. Great English midfielders, but not greats who can do it at club and international level. Scholes a better passer of the ball, Gerrard and Lampard both much better goalscorers (Lampard especially). Gerrard a bit more all action, Scholes more of a dirty cynical b*stard who managed to get away with it quite well. But if you swapped any of those 3 about, the fortunes of their respective clubs would not have changed at all I don't think. If Gerrard played for United and Scholes for Liverpool, United wouldn't have been any less successful.

But the 3 of them, they are nowhere near as good midfielders as Xavi, Iniesta, Pirlo, and especially Zidane. And they managed to do a good job of showing that whenever they pulled on an England shirt. As soon as they were out of their comfort zone of having top quality players at their clubs around them, they couldn't perform. Unlike Xavi. Unlike Iniesta. Unlike Pirlo. Unlike Zidane.

There's a lot of sense in what you say there. It's worth pointing out though that we've never seen Xavi or Iniesta out of their comfort zone in a sub-par team. They've both always had the same class players around them.

  2. Had a letter today to say I cant have a season ticket as its in the top two rows of the rocky and the club isn't using them next season for ST holders.

It apparently impedes thes view of those in wheelchairs.

Fair enough but they could have told me sooner so I could have had a look at where else to sit or even change stands and views etc.

Wonder how that will be enforced on matchdays as it was hardly an issue last year??

The fact that these measures have been implemented would suggest disabled supporters thought otherwise.

  3. 3 things:

    1. Rochdale away - just loved how rowdy we all were, then the result just topped it off, even if they say they don't care about us.

    2. Fleetwood away - the fact we had fans on three sides of the ground, the two worldie strikes to lighten an average game and all the players celebrating with the fans.

    3. The north stand construction thread...,lightened a many dull day seeing new improvements being made to what will be a brilliant new stand

This post reflects our season very well really. The first two thirds had some real high points, but by the final third we were really scratching around for something to cling to.

  4. Think the club have seriously overestimated how many corporate seats they will get.

I'm fairly confident that despite the club's ineptitude in so many ways they will have carried out some market research on the subject and have made a reasonable prediction based on that research, rather than Jenny deciding by consulting a tarot.

  5. He's with shez at Plymouth isn't he?

He's Shez's Performance Manager at Plymouth and has managed to get Reuben Reid to perform.

Well I never. Maybe there's a possibility they could get the old band back together then...

"I'll see you at Oldham Baths at 5am sharp young Carl. Bring your boxing gloves."

  6. If dowie is the man for the job we won't be worried about their fitness after 60 minutes. That was the strongest team I saw at latics.

John Harbin was the main man behind that. I don't know what he's upto these days but they were a brilliant team. I think he returned to Australia to work in rugby league last I heard.

  7. Also echo the earlier poster above, that if they played the league cup the same time they do now...earlier then we would have battered Forest and if my mind then beaten united and they would have said goodbye to fergie.

iirc season was shortened so england had time to prepare for italia 90 so final was earlier than usual just our luck

I'd always thought the final was played much later than usual so I had a look. The 1990 League Cup final was on 29th April. The '89 final was on 9th April, the '88 final on the 24th April and the '87 final on 5th April.

So if anything it was played later than the previous finals but not by much. It looks tremendously late compared to this year's 1st March final though.

    Oh what might have been...

  8. Corney should offer Neil Redfearn the job, it's looking unlikely he's going to be at Leeds next season with his contract expiring, he's also had his assistant taken away from him by the clown of an owner and 6 first teamers have been told they can't play today, if we offered him the role here he could have full control of team affairs/transfers worth a punt ?

Just make sure Redfearn doesn't speak to Paul Dickov...
