  1. I'm sorry, I love Oldham Athletic but sometimes the fans are the most frustrating people!! We have someone who for the first time in 20 years makes me sit on the edge of my seat and instils something in me called hope which to an oldham fan is as foreign a feeling as jubilation And what do we do, we have people who "don't know where he fits" ill tell you where anywhere he wants, I don't follow oldham for the trophys! It's for players like Baxter that if I was 7 years old I would be baggsying being him in the playground! Please let's look past "hard worker over talent" and embrace him, he WANTS to be at Oldham, how many players of his talent has ever wanted to be at our small unfashionable club!
  2. I know it's a long shot but wouldn't it be nice for Baxter or anyone in the same situation just to come out and say what's happening If he were to leave and I really hope he doesn't, as long as he is bettering himself then yes I'd be gutted but could understand It's the not knowing what's happening that frustrates me (and the countless rumours)
  3. Possibly the worst post in the history of this message board
  4. If LJ has looked at the situation and seen that he cannot get a better cb than Grounds then I think it's a clever move getting a decent LB in. We also have nothing to lose bringing DP in on non contract terms, another body won't harm and playing under his Pops may give his career a boost?!? Again ifs and buts, but positive ones!
  5. Just read we have also put D Philliskirk on non contract terms so he is available also!
  6. this definitely ^ and from what I have seen of James Dayton, he could be an absolute steal at this level, already attempted to get to the byline more times than anyone for the whole of last season!
  7. I unfortunately didn't go to the game as its a 4 hour round trip and due to finances have to pick and choose what I go to. But as a non regular to Boundary Park I can comment that the atmosphere is quite close to being toxic. The question has to be "how will it change?" Lets be honest we aren't going to win every home game no matter who we are! I actually can't see it getting any better! Negativity breeds and it's no coincidence that our best performances are saved for away games
  8. Erm before we start criticising tactics, can we remember we were playing in the tin pot cup, 3 days after an epic first game of the season, 4 days from playing a nearly play off team at home. I would suggest that they were the deciding factors behind the subs
  9. This definitely The head tilt "we played well, just need that bit of luck" etc etc
  10. I agree with both posts, I definitely believe that in LJ we have an innovative, passionate, realistic, shrewd manager who people seem want to follow, but the jump from finishing what 19th last season and promotion would be epic. I'm definitely going to enjoy the ride, but after 25 years of following Latics expectation is a word that no longer holds any meaning lol
  11. Don't have a problem with him celebrating, he was a p***k for thinking he could bully Mellor!
  12. From what I saw in the game yesterday was Tarkowski in the ear of Mellor/Brown all the way through. Now that's not something you learn. I truly believe that the Tarkowski/Mellor partnership may be a stroke of genius, what we have to remember yesterday we played virtually a 5-5 formation, we could have had Baresi and Moore at CB and we would still have conceded
  13. I just want to put out there, I thought Mellor was excellent today, for a relative youngster playing out of position (ish) against those giants today a lot would have wilted but he looks leaner, meaner and a proper footballer, I loved him getting the ball off Oxley and going off to "play" Yes he's not the experienced Gregan type but I'd put him ahead of the likes of Clarke that we have had recently. Give him a chance and I think we are going to have a major asset Before people slate him, not one of the goals were his fault
  14. Speaking of made up rumours I see Trotman is without a team? Surely he wouldn't be on loads?
  15. Totally agree, why would a lad who prob lives in the midlands, had played for a year in Wiltshire start commuting to the north west just to "keep fit"
  16. Prozac, I think it's easy to assume that if Jose is an Oldham player there will be a space for him!!
  17. I saw the picture when it first came out and couldn't for the life of me work out who it was! If we have signed Adam Rooney then what a coup by LJ. Baxter, JCH, Rooney, McDonald and Millar has to be the best forward line we have had in nigh on 20 years Not counting my chickens though, after supporting Oldham for 25 years I know that it could as easily be Feeney resigning!
  18. i think the story of Grobbelaar filling all the water bottles up with Bacardi and coke on a scorching last game of the season at Grimsby ranks as one of the best stories i have heard in recent years
  19. Signed for Chesterfield, think there is something not quite right with him, good player but maybe some baggage
  20. Before slating a potential signing please I implore you to remember that at the beginning of the 2012/2013 Oldham's strike force was Matt Smith, Jordan Slew and Robbie Simpson
  21. Yeah well done CP The amount of crap rumour sites spouting rubbish it's very refreshing someone actually getting right and not making it up Thanks
  22. Are we not the same fans that supported mr Hughes after he had killed somebody?!?!! Oh no a player moaned about another player he definitely cannot play for us IF he were to sign then it would be a massive improvement on last season FACT
  23. Can someone fill me in why Steve Marlet's name keeps coming up? I seem to have missed something?
