  1. Sheridan has said numerous times including after Shrewsbury that he wanted to bring in another couple, makes you think that there is still the possibility of someone being brought in.
  2. Anyway anyone hearing anything? Am I right in thinking that if a player has been released he can sign after today?
  3. You should probably just copy and paste it may bring it down a couple of seconds
  4. The only question we need to ask when making a signing from now on is "is he better than what we have got?" Gerrard case and point. Not the best cb in the league but a big improvement
  5. This guy could be the next Messi, it will mean jack when Leon Clarke and Tom Pope are up against the Wilsons......
  6. 2015-We need an experienced assistant manager 21st Jan 2016- appoint an experienced assistant manager OWTB post "hope it's not a job for the boys" You can't make this :censored: up!
  7. Didn't we say that when Dunn came? I think we maybe need to accept that Winchester is maybe good on his day but those days (including training) are few and far between
  8. A great post!!! I started following Latics when my dad took me to a game in 1988. I wasn't born in Oldham, have never lived in Oldham but my dad was and for him it was a very proud moment to take me and my older brother, his 2 boys, to Boundary Park and become part of the Oldham family. My dad passed away nearly 15 years ago and me and my brother still try to get upto Oldham to see a game when we can. My brother has 2 young children, 2 boys, and is currently having an internal fight whether he can subject them to what is today's Oldham Athletic. We talk constantly about it and how my dad would have loved to have taken his grandsons to there first game, taken their allegiance away from one of the premier league bores and introduced them to our 2nd family. Unfortunately I and my brother feel that if something drastic is not done very very soon, we will have no decision to make as there will be no Oldham Athletic to speak of. Today's Oldham Athletic no longer feels like a family, it feels like a burden. I implore Simon Corney and his mates to give us back our family. It's done Simon, you had a go, you did a great job for a while but you don't have the fight for it anymore. We need to start concentrating on saving our club, not our season, not our league 1 status but OUR club. Oh I'm posting this at 443am on a Sunday morning as I feed my 4 week old daughter who will not be an Oldham fan she will be far too civilised for that!
  9. I agree with Dunn. From a psychological point of view negativity breeds. I wasn't there Saturday but reading social media things in the away end were toxic from the start (please do not think I am including the sad events of the fan.) Fighting between ourselves during the first half and at half time. Being a footballer doesn't make you immune to having the piss taken out of you. The booing, people shouting :censored: at players etc will only cause hesitancy and a negative thought process between players. Yes we pay our money and are entitled to our opinions but please don't think that they then won't effect the players.
  10. Who cares where he is from, if and it's a big if he makes us better then what does it matter
  11. Commenting on a situation you weren't involved in or caught up in is also as you say 'mindless logic'
  12. The chairman's missus, who is a former escort, said pre game 'when we play Liverpool' and 'we can beat Oldham.' I also remember a game there with 3 players sent off and Fitz Hall scoring a 90th min winner from the spot and he showing his steady hand. The stewards then held us back in the stand to allow the Mansfield fans to congregate at the away end and allow them to chuck coins at us. We were then shepherded through the directors car park and watched some nice cars get some lovely new racing stripes via the coins that had been kindly given to us. A good day all round
  13. I liked Johnson, I thought he fit our club quite well. His outlook of 'home for the unloved' resonated with the fans and actually looking at the last few months he probably over achieved with the squad we had. He had his head turned by a 'bigger club' who he probably saw as the next step in his career. The issue he has is the expectation from the Barnsley fans is borne from previous managers over achieving. He isn't going to be afforded the time or the mistakes he made here.
  14. :censored:ing hell, in proving Winchester is worthy of a place we have labelled every other player :censored: Cornell - he's :censored: definitely play Winchester over him, Winchester has great handling, he's the anti Magennis Brown - he's :censored: definitely play Winchester over him Burn - he's :censored: definitely play Winchester over him Lafferty - he's :censored: definitely play Winchester over him Philliskirk - he's :censored: definitely play Winchester over him Jones - he's :censored: definitely play Winchester over him
  15. If someone had offered me Dunn in May I'd have taken it. I think people would still have had reservations but nothing compared to how they felt over Kelly. Due to Kellys reign Dunn inherited a very fragile low on confidence group of players. He's taken 4 games to start making a difference. We drew Saturdays game of course but the manner of the draw, the way we grew into the game shows we are on the right track. IMO even with LJ at the helm 1-0 down after 8 minutes away from home at an in form team usually led to a pasting. Please let's back the manager and stop comparing him to Kelly. Kelly was not up to it and Dunn is slowly turning the club around.
  16. People need to get real! The players available dictate the formation. Everyone will be in agreement that our strongest position is midfield. Why would you sacrifice our strongest area to play another forward inferior in quality? It's then how the players play that formation. 4-5-1 works, it does but when played properly. We just don't seem to have that number 10, maybe Fulton is that player but for me the number 10 is the important player in 451, they can drop in but also push on if needed. The mistake made was Philliskirk playing left wing. I'm not criticising Philliskirk as such because he is so far from a winger but without Yeates playing high and wide you lose the out ball. With him on the pitch you have the option if required to get the defence turned around and the team pushed on up the field. I would assume Philliskirk was to be utilised as an inside forward who was able to go 'cheat' ie float. That only works if you are 1. Clever 2. Confident 3. Quality on the ball which at the moment I'm not sure he is any of those.
  17. I appreciate everyone's attempt at a side but no one has included Danny 'Bulletproof' Philliskirk. He's started every league game so far hasn't he?
  18. As a former coach/manager my thought is players can get tunnel vision and concentrate on solely there job etc (not saying it's negative but that's what I've found) the coach or manager can see the bigger picture and can make alterations or let players know what's happening around them. Although there a is a difference between constant shouting and offering input when required. I am equally suspicious of a coach who is quiet or the loudest person there as this shows inadequacies
  19. I believe that if you keep doing the same things you can't expect anything to change. I have never known a more controversial in a small clubs history than the last 9 months. At every turn the owners and his staff have contrived to produce so much negative publicity that I believe the fans should start to act. I'm not sure about a protest but ill support anything that is trying to implement change
  20. The guy was totally out of his depth and players probably knew it. Negative breeds and it only takes a couple of players to not have faith in a manager for it to pass through to the rest. We have seen this the last couple of games, think it speaks volumes that we never got that new manager 'bump' that happens. So we move onto the next one, personally for me all we need is someone we can relate too. Oldham are a small club supported by loyal passionate people. We don't support Oldham because 'they are the best' we support them because we love this little club and the community feel. To get them back on side we need 'one of own' to galvanise the club and get it rocking again.
  21. You know what, thank you to the poster for passing on this information. It would be hard to substantiate either way but thanks for at least telling us what you have heard. If true WOW, there is a lot of information there that a non latics supporting fan might not know if not told? Anyway going to take it with a pinch of salt but just made my Thursday more interesting
  22. I think the timing is all wrong for Kelly. Last year for the first time in a loooong time the fans had a sniff of success in the league. We were promised and witnessed the birth of a new stand and our hopes were risen that the Oldham Athletic that we have put up with was finally going to do something we could be proud of. Bang we appoint Kelly, slight fading of hope.....but we still have the squad who we know are capable as we have seen it. Bang the new stand isn't ready, a lot of fans have bought tickets in there even more fading of hope. Bang Kelly doesn't seem to have the nouse required to be a manager. And before anyone disagrees with me please look at this point. To play 1 up front can work, people say no you need 2 is being naive because those 2 could be Rickers and Neville Roach, but not having the correct type of player to play that role and to still insist on playing that formation is blatantly pointing to someone who is out of his depth. To then not have the capacity to think on the spot when we go down to 10 men is again indicative of someone who isn't confident enough in his own abilities to make a change. Nice guy or not he is in my opinion wasting an opportunity for my football club who I spend vast amount of time and money on to give me some enjoyment. That's why I will not wait another 4 games to judge him. He's been here 4 months and has not done 1 thing that's made me have any ounce of faith in him.
  23. I'm sorry I think you are wrong to think this :censored:e we are being served up is down to DH, it is DK on the training ground working on his ideas and tactics he said it himself! After another transfer deadline day where we have kept all our important players we should be buzzing but this squad which in my opinion is the best we have had in years is going to be wasted on DK. Starting to feel like the job is too big for him (like Dickov) and he has reverted to shut up shop and hope for the best.
  24. I think Poleon and Murphy will leave, have a sneaky feeling we may lose someone of importance also.
