What got me about last night and Maguire is why are we passing the ball back to him to distribute all the match ?

All those skilful players and we are relying on him to spread the play 🙄🙄

You'd think he was Franz Beckenbauer the number of times he had the ball. When I was playing the idea was to get it to the best players all the time not give it to your weakest.

Having said that he wasn't much worse than Alexander Arnold who surely can't keep his place in the squad as he's not a midfielder and England have more right backs than we've got centre halves.

l normally like Dion but l wanted him to stop talking at that moment

Doesn't usually bother me what the "experts" say but Dublin should stick to Homes under the Hammer because he's embarrassing himself on Channel 4.

Is Alexander Arnold his love child as he consistently talks up his contribution and rarely says anything a four year old couldn't spot.*

    * Apologies to any four year olds who post on here !  😉

  3. Think even the most optimistic amongst us would concede that midfield does need strengthening either permanently or via the loan market.

Whilst acknowledging we have not seen the best of Ward or Lundstram Gardner remains our main attacking midfield threat and his inability to string appearances together is concerning.

I'm sure our manager has recognised this and January will see the problem addressed. 👍

  4. If I'd have been England manager Rashford would have been substituted after 20 minutes, looked totally disinterested. Too much Chuckle Brothers football..."to me to you"...just passing the ball back to the team mate who's passed to you ( where've I seen that before !  ).

Only one's who looked as if they wanted to be there were Foden, Kane and Rice when he came on.

It’s a great goal and all credit to Rooney for spotting the opportunity and having a go. There is though a reason (apart from the obvious) why goals like that one, Beckham’s and even Pele’s famous near miss are so memorable - they occur rarely.

If the goalkeeper hadn’t been so far off his line, Rooney wouldn’t have scored. I’ll be told I’m out of touch with the modern game, but I always worry when a keeper strays outside the six yard box!

Me too. Hudson seems a bit too keen to come out of the penalty area at times.

I still think he’d be better played LM.

Not sure he can beat a man readily enough to play there but he's often our only outlet going forward at times.

I would like to see him vary his crosses a little more, banging one in low now and again like on Saturday to enable Norwood and whoever to make near post runs ( which we virtually ignore as a team).

  7. Kitching is OK going forward but struggles to get back as it seems to take him a while to get his legs moving very similar to a left back we had 5 or 6 years ago whose name escapes me but went on to play for Birmingham? at a higher level. He was a decent footballer but made little attempt to regain his position if caught upfield. Kitching does try but is often caught out of position probably because he's our main forward pushing defender.

I’m not sure your assumption that “coming on as an impact sub means you will necessarily score more and hence have a lower minutes per goal stat” actually holds up to scrutiny.  That needs some real statistical analysis.

Suppose you could argue that the defenders are a bit knackered later on in the game but it'd be a hard thing to quantify.

Apart from get a shot on target and win his headers.

The "shot on target" was wildly speculative and could have easily been saved by me and any of the other pensioners sitting in the stands and if you can't win a few headers when you've his physique you shouldn't be on the field.

I do think he's well worth his place however, on the bench.

BP- stop playing the victim over something and nothing.

You came on and posted a slightly inflammatory remark- you got pulled on it and it was suggested you go along if that’s important. You then come on playing the victim.

Maybe have another break if it winds you up so much.

Some come on here to read first then post afterwards, some post first then read some of what's been posted.

It's a lot easier doing the former rather than the latter as you tend not to ask questions that have already been answered. 👍

Have you any evidence of any of this seasons youths training with the first team? I've never seen any and pass the training grounds frequently.

It's a managers job to personally assess his staff like in any other workplace. How else will he know if some or better or not than others?

I'm asking if he's actually seen them play. You cannot speak for him.

Mid-way through a season isn't the right time to be assessing whether 17 year olds are ready for first team action. If they are obviously ready no doubt an experienced youth team boss like Paul Murray will be in Mellon's ear.

Also, has the manager assessed the all the youth team players yet, incuding those out on loan, and if so considered any for training with the first team?

Several of last year's squad are training with the first team whilst on loan.

Our squad is probably big enough without cluttering it up with youngsters who are very unlikely to figure in a team chasing the play-offs.
