Aside from the Altrincham game McGahey has been poor in central midfield. Had a great game against Woking at centre half and should remain cover there. Although arguably i'd have him in ahead of Hogan as he has a decent left peg.

Neither can kick with their left peg but I'd prefer Hogan.

This is an interesting signing. Is it a stopgap until Mellon's long term solution becomes available in the summer, or has the management team been patient in pursuit of their preferred round peg? It will be something of an anti-climax if he doesn't debut on Saturday!

Would think he's a certain starter next match so we can play a back three with him and Kitching as wing backs and Conlon slotting into midfield alongside Sheron and Lundstram ?

I wonder why Couto has never been tried switching

flanks when you think players at other clubs have done it, Denis Irwin for example right to left, and its often the case with wingers, Jack Grealish for one?

Couto might not be good enough, but worth trying IMO.

He's weak enough tackling with his left foot so doubt it would be a career changer for him.

Regarding Irwin, if Stuart Pearce had signed for United when they wanted him we may never have heard of Gary Neville !!  😁

Throw ins are an area I’ve long advocated that we need to practise on. Our ball retention on throws is extremely poor , lack of movement & options. Also something simple is how we throw it as well . Most teams throw it to feet so they can control it easier, we throw it so it bounces a yard in front of the player or at his chest who then struggles to control it . It might sound trivial or pedantic but we rarely retain possession then we’re under pressure.

It's basically either laziness or thoughtless not throwing the ball directly to feet or passing the ball to a team mate's "wrong" foot when under no pressure. It slows the game unnecessarily.

Isn't all that just part of "seeing the game out" though and what all good teams do ?

That's the theory but we're not good at it.

Good teams also play on the front foot and show some urgency most of the time not traipse about as if they're on holiday. I'm not overly concerned when we slow the game when leading but we just seem a bit lethargic at times. When we've scored I'd prefer us to push on for a second or third which is a much more effective way of "seeing the game out".
