Throw ins are an area I’ve long advocated that we need to practise on. Our ball retention on throws is extremely poor , lack of movement & options. Also something simple is how we throw it as well . Most teams throw it to feet so they can control it easier, we throw it so it bounces a yard in front of the player or at his chest who then struggles to control it . It might sound trivial or pedantic but we rarely retain possession then we’re under pressure.

It's basically either laziness or thoughtless not throwing the ball directly to feet or passing the ball to a team mate's "wrong" foot when under no pressure. It slows the game unnecessarily.

Isn't all that just part of "seeing the game out" though and what all good teams do ?

That's the theory but we're not good at it.

Good teams also play on the front foot and show some urgency most of the time not traipse about as if they're on holiday. I'm not overly concerned when we slow the game when leading but we just seem a bit lethargic at times. When we've scored I'd prefer us to push on for a second or third which is a much more effective way of "seeing the game out".

  3. The thing that really annoys me is the time taken over throw ins, goal kicks and corners.

Hudson was warned a couple of times on Saturday yet still moved the ball whilst taking a goal kick prompting the inevitable pointless booking and six minutes added on.

The lackadaisical body language of our players who saunter around the pitch when the ball is out of play must influence the refs when deciding the amount of time added on, and as such is counter productive.

It also subdues the crowd to some extent when they see players strolling about showing a lack of urgency.

Just look as if you're on the front foot and we may not be playing after five on a Saturday afternoon.

He's played for France u18s and 19s. I also remember a player released by Burnley who took some time to make an impact..Rick Holden - and he turned out ok.

I'd have no hesitation taking  Mancini if possible, he's a high quality player with time of his side.

Looked decent in his two cameos against us but the fact he's played about ten games in the last three years would temper my enthusiasm.

Monitor him for the rest of the season and then decide.

no l was thinking all the best players fitted into a formation depending on the job that needs doing. you said Gardner.

No, @BP1960 stated Gardner needs bringing into midfield which you responded to, but we all know it's not just as simple of writing his name on the team sheet. His delicate nature dictates the number of starts he can make, although I would agree we need our more creative players for home matches to unlock defences.

    thats not a bad shout.

l'm against the grain with the 'we need to pick a formation and stick with it' mentality. its decent from a player perspective but its pretty ancient in this day and age and l'm totally against it.

    The problem is Gardner's fitness.

Most on here agree he's our most creative midfielder though that's not a high bar.

We desperately need continuity in selections which means a new body through the door, as managing his fitness must be a nightmare for all concerned.

I manage 25 staff, most of whom were due to work yesterday.

I guarantee every one of them have said something similar to what Reid said, although posting it on social media was a bit silly.

The suspension seems a bit of an overreaction to me? Unless, as mentioned, it will be used to get a wage off the books!

    Exactly right.

Everyone has at least thought something similar the really stupid thing is posting it on social media.

It's almost as if some footballers are bordering on simple, like they know the rules but choose to ignore them.*

The current midfield setup is the issue. They’d rather sit back.

Bloke behind me was shouting at the team to press when Gateshead were pissing about with the ball from dead balls.

With a 33 year old striker, McGahey and Lundstrum (carrying an injury) in midfield and Sutton and Kitching as wing backs pressing as a team is a non-starter.

Na I think he’s below the standard of player we need. He got caught on the ball easily yesterday, can’t pick a forward pass. He’s okay in a physical battle and that’s about it.

On that, when are the defenders going to start chipping in with goals from corners ?

When the start making runs as the ball is being played instead of grappling with their markers.

And for god's sake someone get across the near post !!  🥵

This is a desperately needed facility for the whole of Oldham. At the moment hundreds and hundreds of kids of all backgrounds, playing for teams based in the town, have to play their home games in places like Ashton, Reddish and Droylsden, because our town has nothing suitable. That is a disgrace for somewhere the size of Oldham. The Council will probably say that the cost has been prohibitive but they seem to find the funds for their crackpot schemes easily enough.

The council are, however, involved in this scheme by way of providing funds for the pitch re-furb and the ground sharing with the Roughyeads.

As I understand it the pitch upgrade would not have happened without Council assistance.

Does anybody know anyone who has ever won?

    Do the winners even exist?

    Why haven't I won yet?

Is Frank using my weekly sub. to fund his row?

Answers on a postcard please.Oh and merry Christmas to you all.

I think the wages probably will be a stumbling block, perhaps for both of them. Nuttall in particular as he seemed to take a fair bit of persuading to come here.

I still wonder, based on very little, if Mellon is trying to shock him into a reaction by freezing him out of the first team picture. He's 27 in January, if he's to have a career at this level, or higher, he needs to start producing consistently now whether that be here or somewhere else.

People run this league down but I see plenty of hungry footballers of all ages trying desperately hard to succeed. If you haven't got desire and fitness as absolute basics you won't make it in even in the fifth tier.

I still think there's a player in there but it's very much up to him whether he makes it.

He's showed bits of skill sporadically but seems to lack the desire to be a professional footballer.

He just goes through the motions in my opinion ( bit like I used to ! 😄 ).
