  1. Is that the same Uncle Simon that saved our football club?
  2. Yes, I remember one total :censored: screaming at Pointon because his corners were "crap". That for me was the most idiotic example of the many I have seen where our own "supporters" slag off the team. Who also remembers Pointon's amazing volleyed goal against Southampton in the final game of the great escape? Both feet off the floor when he hit it and it went like a rocket. He was a great left back.
  3. Absolutely, and playing great football too. LJ is relentless in his professionalism. We will improve every week. If it weren't for a couple of individual errors, which I am sure he is working to iron out, we would have beaten Posh away. I have the feeling that LJ is going to be a great manager - too early to say, of course, but I'm getting that feeling quite strongly.
  4. The development of all the young players will accelerate this season as they now have proper coaching and management. Tarky, along with the others, has been held back, and will show huge improvement this season. Any yes, apart from pace (which I'm sure they will work on) he has got lots of talent, including leadership ability and a winning mentality.
  5. Yes, that's got to be it. We simply call it "non contract wages" and it doesn't count for the cap. Brilliant. Problem solved...............er.
  6. Overall we played good football, but with no cutting edge (until injury time). We defended very well indeed and were undone by two idiotic errors. Oxley. 5. Really bad error for the penalty, otherwise looked OK. Brown. 7. He's a good player in my view, and he always does his best. Lovely cross for the goal. Mills. 7. Good left back, did well. Grounds. 7. Really good at centre back, defended well and played it out of defence well too. Tarky. 7. A really good prospect. Wes. 5. As one or two have said, he is too sideways and backwards. If we are going to pass and move then we must be incisive. He kills momentum. Smith. 7. Good focus, retention and passing throughout (with a couple of very crap exceptions). Dayton. 7. Did well but his shooting on YouTube is a lot better than it is on the pitch. Montano. 7. Would have been great except he got kicked off the pitch. Baxter. 4. Really not very good today, and the way he gave away the ball for the first goal was shameful. Lazy, careless and weak. Rooney. 6. Gave it a good go and had one excellent header, but othewise didn't threaten. Millar. 5. A poor man's Charlie MacDonald. Sid. 5. He gets these marks mainly for effort, but he always looks ineffectual to me. Very little end product. MacD. 8. Really good little cameo. Sharp, fast, quick thinking and did well for his goal. A proper striker.
  7. or even Andy Ritchie, not his sister Annie ;-) In my 50 years I have never seen any other Latics players that really came close to them. There were some wonderful players in the Prem team (Warhurst was amazing, and was always going to be a top striker for someone), Richard Jobson, Earl Barrett, Rick Holden etc. But those 3 were very special and different.
  8. For me, very clearly the top 3 are: Alan Groves Simon Stainrod Any Ritchie
  9. Hi There I am also outside the UK. Has anyone found a live feed that works yet? Thanks! Ian
  10. Davies going out on loan. Seemed unlikely after COG went, but it turned out to be correct the next day.
  11. It does seem to be common sense, doesn't it? Put in a swinging corner of good length at reasonable pace and have a couple of people arriving late in the box. That's how John Wark used to score all his goals for Ipswich and Liverpool. He got one like that for Ipswich at BP, which I think was the game in which Andy Ritchie scored with a back heel, although my memory is not great for stuff like that.
  12. Not heard anything so far - it's easier to get MoD clearance than it is to post on this site!
  13. Unsure what I'm doing here. I'm trying to register for the full thingybob, so here are my answers to the questions! Name? Ian Bastow Location? Cambridge How Long Supporting the Tics? 35 years Best away match you've been to? Old 2nd division, about 1983, Fulham 0 v Oldham 3. All Time Greatest Player? Erm, Alan Groves! Biggest Rivals (in your eyes)? Bolton, always used to get big crowds for the derby matches when I was a kid. I am in now?!?
