  1. I worked in Oldham for a few years and trust me your micro climate has to be witnessed to be believed, I've seen snow hang around for weeks in Oldham when we've not had a flake, don't be too harsh on your groundsmen they're up against it.
  2. Are these figures reliable? If so how have the club managed to make a profit for the last 3 seasons, that's some turn round.
  3. I'm hoping it won't be too long, I loved my visits to Boundary Park and a few scoops in the White Hart, it certainly beats visits to Brackley and Lowestoft.
  4. He's certainly lifted our spirits, we'll soon be on our way back now Jimbo's home.
  5. FC United use that one, they sing we built our own ground to that tune and to be fair it sounds pretty good.
  6. Watch the news, there's quite a few out there that do.
  7. Football crowds were genuinely lower back then, plus we played Fridays which is ok for a one off but it stopped loads of kids from attending.
  8. I sometimes wonder if there's any future for lower level football in this area with United and City getting bigger and bigger, With the ease of getting into Manchester through improved transport systems and City expanding their ground it's understandable that football fans of the future will choose trophies, titles and world class players over endless misery and disappointment, maybe we're all fighting a losing battle and we're just a bit further down the road to oblivion than most. On that cheerful note I wish you all a much better 2016.
  9. If you're not one of them you should be, he really is that good and he could be the difference between staying up and going down.
  10. Debts and overheads but you're right we should still have enough to compete at this level, I don't know if you got there yesterday but that dire display is what we're accustomed to.
  11. Why would you do that? We're duty bound but why would anyone else put themselves through it?
  12. We might be skint but I'm not aware of us getting rid of players left right and centre, we got rid of Gonzales because as hard as he tried he just wasn't up to it, I liked the lad for the effort he put in but he couldn't cut it at conference north level so he won't make it at this level. Getting back to Dennis, I'd put good money on him getting goals at league level, the lad's a natural, I don't think we can sell him though as he's on a season long loan at Macc but they're as skint as us so a deal could be done which would be a shame because I reckon they could go up if they hold onto him..
  13. He's at Macc because our manager thought he could bring in better, our leading scorer is a loanee on 3 goals. Dennis is on a season long loan and his contract expires in May so he's played his last game for us, he's a natural goal scorer and could do it at league level.
  14. If he ends up at Macc you could do worse than swap him for Kristian Dennis.
  15. Blair took us to war but every Tory MP voted in favour while a large number of Labour MPs voted against it, plus the national debt has risen more in the last 5 years than it did in 13 years under Labour, Anyway Jim McMahon is a good egg.
  16. I know Oldham well and there's some truth in that but something needed to be done and he had the balls to do it, under his leadership the town has attracted a M&S which will keep shoppers in the town, the cinema complex will also keep people in town, the Oldham in bloom stuff has lifted the perception of the town. With the tram now in place, people who would never have considered living in Oldham might now be tempted with the low house prices, I've met him a couple of times and been impressed by his enthusiasm and his willingness to get things done.
  17. The thing is we're all stuck with our clubs, there's no getting out once you're in and just like us you'll stick with it. Having said that you're nowhere near dropping to our level and if you did drop a level I reckon you'd bounce back relatively quickly.
  18. The idea is surely to get a few extra fans in and hopefully they'll enjoy it enough to come back, the incentive wouldn't work on Southend fans so charge them the full whack, people from Essex like to show off about how much they've spent anyway.
  19. The Friday night thing backfired on us, our crowds were lower on Fridays than they are on Saturdays and we probably lost a generation of kids, on the other hand it gave me a lot of free Saturdays and the chance to get to Boundary Park a fair bit.
  20. Even as a County fan I'd find it hard to argue that we're as big as Oldham, potentially maybe but our history is mostly lower divisions and we've never played top flight, I think County and Tranmere are similar clubs but I always saw Oldham as similar to Blackburn and Bolton, maybe that's because I grew up in the 70s.
  21. In league 1 you get quite a few attractive games against reasonable sized clubs who have fallen away, league 2 is nowhere near as attractive and playing the likes of Barnet at home won't bring the crowds flooding back, your income would be reduced massively but your expenditure wouldn't. Staying up is essential and the new stand could be one part of putting the club back on the rise, I don't know if a Bradford style season ticket promotion would work but taking a step back to move forward isn't the way to go.
  22. Thanks Nesbitt, I'm sure it will happen when I'm even older and even greyer.
  23. Thanks for that Sheridan (I think) although I find your hatred puzzling as we never really had a rivalry since maybe the 60s and we were pretty much miles apart during the hooligan years of the 70s and 80s when a lot of rivalries developed. Anyway I'd take getting stuffed by Latics and Rochdale right now, it's definitely better than getting stuffed by Stalybridge! Hi Max, are you still in touch with Wrighty? I might pop over again this season if you've not already played them, I'll definitely get a match in when we have a free Saturday. Disjointed, we're still in debt so our 3000 are pretty much needed to service that debt, the problem in our division is if someone puts £500k into Brackley for instance it goes straight into the squad, in our case it would be swallowed up which is deterring investment, things are improving though.
  24. With 6 home games played we're averaging 3131 which isn't bad in our 3rd season in the conference north, especially when you consider the visiting support is often around a dozen. Whether or not your crowds would hold up as well is something I hope you never have to find out.
  25. You're looking in the wrong places Mikey there are still plenty of us around, you'll know us by our long faces.
