  1. Don't get me wrong here, I'll never understand why they can't have a bloke on a turnstile, there's normally enough stewards stood around doing nowt ffs...but I order mine online if needs be, pay £1 postage, job done!
  2. If he's going to sack him it needs to be today, so that a new guy can come in look at the current crop of :censored:e in training and over the 3 Xmas games and then hopefully get some funds to recruit at least 7 new players in January. Can't see that happening on any front so where does that leave us? I did think up a new tactic yesterday, we could play the ball into Ladapo's feet then work off his 5 yard touch/close control, only issue was as my lad pointed out, no one knows which direction it's going in!
  3. I was thinking on the drive home how my enthusiasm is just slowly disappearing. I used to look at the phone at 2pm pressing refresh until the team sheet came out and then debate with my lad about who was playing and formation etc...now I don't care, apart from Ripley and Clarke they're all much the same level of :censored:e. Also when you think about recent teams we had players that have gone on to play at a higher level, players that excited you, I'm not going back far for example Tarky, Grounds, Kieron Lee, Matt Smith, Korey Smith, Matt Palmer, Jose Baxter, Gary Harkins and so on...you look at the players now and they are completely devoid of talent, some of them can't even pass a :censored:ing ball! I have no affiliation with these players or the management team. I only go to games out of blind loyalty and cos I enjoy a couple of pints on a Saturday afternoon, taking my lad to the game and meeting fellow Oldham fans for a chat, invariably about how :censored: we are and of times gone by. The actual game itself is a predictable dire sideshow of inept clueless clowns who are stealing a living as footballers. See you all at Bramhall Lane!
  4. What a mess!! I actually stood up for Corney at Bolton recently as he was being slagged off, I'm not a Corney fan, far from it but didn't feel he was to blame for the pathetic attempt at goal from Reckord late in the 2nd half. Had a "discussion" with a couple of blokes and shook hands, at the end of the day we all want the same thing...a club to be proud of! This latest mini cash crisis is obviously just the tip of the iceberg though, we are lurching from one mess to another. The one thing that has kept me and my lad going is the away support, despite all that's been going on over the last few years we have had a fantastic following. Saturday at Scunny was 50% of what it has been in the last few years...I doubt if there'll be more than 250 of us at Port Vale tonight. As Paul Heaton once said "apathy is happy that it won without a fight". IF Corney really does care about the club it's time he admits he's done all he can, he's clearly not up to the task in hand, robbing Peter to pay Paul is too short term, we need belief, we need a plan to get out of the mess we're in both on and off the field. Time for change now before it's too late. There's enough people that still care deeply about our club, time to come together again and sort it out.
  5. Not sure staying away helps but each to their own, I understand your reasons. Personally me and my lad have missed one game all season and as happens whenever I don't go the day was spent shopping and doing diy, so it will be a while before I decide to miss another game! Back to the original post, locally Chesterfield are now up for sale. The asking price is £5 million, plus £4 million in loans that need repaying. The buyer will also need to take on a £2 million mortgage over 10 years...so £11 million all in!
  6. Went in the home end a few years ago as I'd managed to blag some free tickets. I just got in the ground about 2ish, went up to a steward and said I'd come into the wrong end of the ground by mistake and he walked me round the pitch to the Latics end...worth a try, there might be more of an atmosphere in our end.
  7. Apparently Coventry won't let us pay on the day...nothing to do with Latics. Just ring up now, order your ticket and collect from the ticket office, next to the Jimmy Hill stand...statue, sorry!
  8. No more :censored: reasons for not going, get to Bury, let's fill the away end and show the bucket shakers how to support your team!
  9. Ok cheers, will probably get there early and suss it out.
  10. Thinking of driving now...4 hours free parking at Surrey Quays shopping centre. Bollocks to London Village :censored:ty transport system!!
  11. Not massively familiar with London transport...after the game is there going to be a couple of hundred of us waiting for this replacement bus to London Bridge or do they have the foresight to lay a few on for us? Don't fancy the chances of getting a taxi near to the ground after the game.
  12. So...presuming it is S O'D and Kuqi, we get an older experienced man with extensive knowledge of lower league football plus a link to a Prem club for possible loans, plus a young manager full of enthusiasm, with a drive to succeed (anyone that saw him play could see that) plus a connection to the club as an ex player...and still people find reason to moan??? Genius!!
  13. Attention seeking...pretend they're in the know, throw enough stuff out there and some of its bound to end up being right but generally chatting :censored: and deserve to meet up with Jamie Vardy. Re Evans, listened to the interview and he's very non committal which is to be expected if his "advisors" are currently negotiating a nice wage for him. He also mentioned the budget which made me think he could be insisting on a budget to match his ambitions which are presumably to get promoted. All very promising for us...presuming he's coming to us. If it isn't him then God help us, this isn't a job for a rookie manager anymore, we need 15+ players in a very short space of time!
  14. I don't disagree with that either, I think we're mixing up different points here. The club itself continues to be a family club, they couldn't have done more for my lad over the years, he's been a mascot, met the players etc. there are people at the club still working to keep the tradition of the club as a family club...community club accessible to all. The fact that we have had so many players recently is down to modern football I'm afraid, Sky and Bosman are at fault there not really Oldham Athletic. The fact so many of them are :censored:e is down to the managers and budget provided by the club I guess. I don't feel an attachment to the Directors of the club, I never have done though! I didn't particularly like Moore or Stott and I don't like Corney. Barry is an arse (sue me fatboy!) and I thought Alan Hardy was a PR disaster too but I know both work hard for the club and are/were far more accessible than the majority of football club directors. If Shez had stayed would we still be a soulless club? I get we're all pissed off about him leaving but the club is so much more than just one person and if he wanted to leave then :censored: him.
  15. Take your point about Mouldy Old Dough,I remember the Rockford Files theme as well many years ago, maybe suggest it to the club.
  16. Don't agree! I don't get to the ground until 5 mins before kick off so don't hear the music thankfully but the faces I see in the pub before the game are the same ones I've seen for years. The soul of our club is the fans, granted sometimes a home game can be a bit flat at times but an away day with Latics still has something special about it and it's all the things you allude to, the atmosphere, the people etc. We have our ground still where we want it, not at some retail park on the outskirt of a town. These are the soulless clubs, the plastic dons etc. we couldn't be further from that! I also think people at the club are working hard to keep it a family club, to give it a bit of character and always recognise past glories. We're all pissed off that Shez left and yes Corney is a bit of a dick but...fingers crossed...we get the right man in charge in the next few days, get behind him and the players and make sure we keep that soul at the club. There's enough of us who care too much to just stare at the bottom of an empty glass and bemoan the state of the club, let's turn up in numbers at the first few games and at least give them a :censored:in' chance!
  17. If it is Connor then am I right in thinking that comedy 20 mins at Fleetwood would be his last time in a Latics shirt. He managed to combine the bravery of Stuart Barlow with the skill and subtlety of Andy Barlow and the vision of Deidre Barlow! To be fair he always gave 100%...good luck lad, reckon you need it!
  18. Can see your point about Woodhouse, I did say it would be interesting if he had Shirtliff alongside and Gerrard back in defence...alongside those 2 with his leadership we maybe onto something, who knows? We just need something to give is a bit of a spark back.
  19. Curtis Woodhouse 1. He applied!! 2. Just passed his UEFA badges 3. The fact he's had some managerial experience albeit non league puts him ahead of most our recent choices 4. He's a character and a fighter...literally! He's not worried about working on a :censored: budget, just wants to get the best out of players through hard work and a bit of self belief
  20. Crewe away was awful, sad to say I was one of the ones down at the front at the end of that game telling the players exactly how I felt. I was also down at the front at Southend as Shez pointed at us and said this ones for you...let's move on!! Who are we likely to get? Dowie - not going to happen. Redfearn - I'd be ok with that...club legend, done the hard yards as a coach/manager, has a good record of bringing kids through. One name being linked that is interesting and probably more realistic - Curtis Woodhouse. Questions I'd like to know are if he'd be willing to work with Shirtliff and would he be willing to work with a strong dressing room character like Gerrard. Curtis is the type of lad to bring pride and passion back to the club but I feel he'd need an old head like Shirtliff and someone like Gerrard on his side. If he's willing to work with them 2 and Corney can manage to hold onto Shirtliff and tempt Gerrard back then I feel we'd be onto something.
  21. Whoever we go with this really is a make or break decision, no more :censored: ups Corney! What's happening behind the scenes needs to come out now, we've hit rock bottom in terms of relationship between fans and the board so get out whatever it is that's driving away any decent manger we get. Air the dirty laundry now and then let's move on. We're not all morons that are going to over react and go into meltdown, there's only a few of those special melts that feel the need to offer their knee jerk reactions on every form of social media available. Most of us are level headed people who love the club and will do anything to help. If we are in the :censored: financially then tell us and maybe some of us can help, we need to know the facts first though, no more cryptic messages, cover ups or bull:censored:! Simon Brooke, as fans rep on the board, the fans need to know what's wrong, why did LJ and now Shez feel the need to get away as soon as they could? Why did we then go with Holden, Kelly and Dunn, when the majority of us knew it wasn't the right thing to do? Going back to my original point and the title of the thread, we now need a new manager. We have very little time to do this and it needs to be the right man cos get this wrong and I fear the worst. I'm not saying lose the first 3 and we're all going to abandon ship but what we need right now is someone to install some pride and belief back in the club long term. We need a leader on (Anthony Gerrard?) and off the pitch that we can associate with and feel like we're moving forward together. Not a mercenary little prick like LJ that will just use us for his own gain, not a nice bloke like Dean Holden that's clearly not management material, not an unknown with no contacts and zero charisma like Darren Kelly and definitely not some egotistical PR disaster like David Dunn, we need a Shez type character to drive us forward. We've managed to lose the right man for this job, sort out whatever is wrong with this club, now and appoint the right man to take us forward. Do not :censored: this one up Corney!
