  1. "Bollocks!!" Thanks for your in-depth analysis of my post I thought my comparison to Peter Clarke was a good way to try and understand it. Not agree with it , but understand , as I do try to see all views. Who is Alan?
  2. Yes you're right I probably shouldn't have used the word miserable and I was trying to point out how people are viewing him, as you say his on field persona which has now developed into his off-field stuff now, rather than my actual concerns. As I said earlier they want him to be a Peter Clarke, heart on the sleeve guy and I was trying to say he isn't like that. His body language is totally different which some people perceive as not caring and aloof. I am not bothered what he is like and I can tolerate most people regardless of whether they moan or are jovial.
  3. It's because people want to love their sporting heroes, just like a Peter Clarke. It isn't going to happen with Norwood. He is looking at this as a job, simple as that. A lot of players mask this , and as you say, smile for the selfies etc. Norwood though is especially grumpy and doesn't mind showing it, so it shocks people to see a player so obviously not bothered about the off-field nicey nicey stuff. We just got to accept that is who he is. We all know miserable people who we tolerate but aren't quite best mates with . Norwood is one of them.
  4. Totally agree. You actually saw players, especially McGahey and Lundstram , looking as though they were going to hoof it and then just took a second thought and passed it to feet, and pass it forward!! It worked so they have to do this again. I am not keen on Norwood as a person, and I sometimes don't like his attitude when playing, but I would have him in my team. I don't have to like him and I know if he ever played against us in future he would rile us but for now as long as he does his job (on-field) I am fine with him as a Latics player.
  5. He must feel some affinity to the club otherwise he wouldn't have reacted that way. As a fan base a lot of people seem to struggle to understand any sort of nice gesture towards another club. Unless the players were told not to antagonise the away supporters which Norwood promptly ignored!!! Regarding his after-match no show. Media duties are part of his match day so he must have told the club he was leaving early, which should have been communicated to the sponsors because as a striker , who especially scores a goal they tend to get more of the MOTM awards. Although having said that I always try and arrange any appointments on my day off , but he may not have been able to do that. Also we normally play at 3pm so has he specifically made it because of the earlier kick off? Anyway don't think we will ever know and my interest is fading about it now anyway .
  6. Our supporters will be right behind them at the start of the game. How long that lasts is wholly dependant on the players.
  7. I have had a few debates on here with some who have a polar opposite view to me. We battled it out and even though it didn't change each others minds, I for one could understand their thought process (sort of ) and it was great. So it can be done.
  8. Well Halifax's loss is Hebden Bridge's gain. At least for the pub trade. A Latics away day without the Latics to break up the drinking will be a different experience
  9. This is when sharing a pitch goes horribly wrong. If the next five are called off and then the surface is destroyed for the rest of the season. Is that one match worth it?
  10. Love affair is taking it to the extreme. It might be my age but I really can't build up a rivalry over Dorking and I do prefer getting along with fans rather than the dark days of the 80s and 90s. Now if they were at the top of the league, were bleating on about wanting more tickets because for once they might have a decent away following and one of your players physically assaulted one of our players with no consequences, then yes am up for a bit of rivalry What other clubs are we friendly to? Also to think that is one of the reasons we are a pushover is really, really stretching it. When I played football I was always friendly to my rivals before and after, but generally kicked them all over the park during the match. Fans being friendly to each other should and actually doesn't affect how the team is playing.
  11. Did you miss last season? It had nothing to do with a free pint that is just as a result of a build up of getting along with their supporters and owner. So when I pick a long distance away I choose this one. It is just a nice , friendly club to visit and I didn't have a free pint either. Can we not have some friends within the NL?
  12. I think you summed it up perfectly. Normally in a team game two or three can play bad and the rest of the team pull them through, but Latics have all 11 playing badly and have done so with most of the disaster defeats. The result really doesn't show how poor we were.
  13. No-one is being ultra positive and people are definitely not jumping up and down with excitement. Where are you getting this from? I completely agree about no buzz. I can't excited either but I do try and see positive things, but always admit that the football is bad but are hopeful it will improve. If that is being ultra positive then I am one of them, although I would say that is balanced. Nothing is all bad and definitely nothing is all good. You don't have to be totally one way or the other.
  14. Oh right , cheers for that. I didn't go to that one and nothing seems to have escalated about it like the Chesterfield pitch invasion.
  15. I know. The timing couldn't have been better to ramp up the tension. Although we have sold out (I think) both times we have been to Alty with no history of trouble either. Having said that I am surprised we haven't given Chesterfield more.
  16. Yes I over dunked my biscuit laughing at that
  17. Yes I know someone who has done the same. He couldn't get the cash to buy a season ticket as he deals with his money on a weekly basis. He is fine with paying the extra , as you say, he feels he is contributing to the club. Although if the club sort the finance out it will be a great help to many.
  18. Also timing it right to announce it. If they do it after a glorious victory (at home of course!!!) then there might be an initial surge to buy them.
  19. I sort of understand what you mean regarding pay on the dayers. On a single match they have paid more for their admission but they would have to go to 10 or 11 plus games to have spent the same money comparing to the season ticket amount. A pay on the day who goes to 3 games hasn't contributed more. Although when you add 23 games times two pints and a pie each time then my contribution will be more. The club has got to get the price right, it's going to be tricky to hit the right balance.
  20. Ladies and gentlemen, sarcasm at it's very best. Well done yard dog!!! This is why I love your posts, you take everything to the extreme, there is no middle ground with you, no grey areas. Bravo Oh you've brought season tickets up. I am going to love your take when they announce the new prices, uptake etc.
  21. Even if you were I took it as a witty come back It made me laugh. I don't think any of the posters on here who are taking issue with the negativity are overly positive. We all readily admit some things are bad but we are just trying to get people to stop dwelling on them and them alone. We are trying to say there are positives too which hopefully balance some of it out. BP is cursed at the moment, we all agree, so what shall we do? Moan, moan and moan , does it help? Have a little moan, then talk about the players who did OK, rejoice that it's starting to be easier to get a half-time pint, move on.
  22. Haha that is true. I am not overly positive but I definitely can be tedious
  23. Don't let it get to you League One. Yard dog's sole purpose is to get people angry and to rabble rouse. I personally enjoy his posts because it's fascinating how someone can constantly view everything in such a negative way. Just like when we all see a tackle and some say it's fair and others say it's a red card. I do wonder though why yarddog puts himself through it if it bothers him this much as I would definitely find something else to do. I hope it is just Latics that gives him this negative attitude and not life in general. Try and praise something, anything, it really does make you feel better
  24. You do seem to struggle to make your point. It may be that you cherry pick little snippets which distorts reality. You threw in Thompson's time in charge, cleverly making it sound as though he was a world beater. League One put some details in there for you to put it into perspective, never saying he accepted it.
