  1. The best natural finisher we have on the books is Rhys. It's bad luck that he got injured so soon along with captain stopper Lockwood. So let's hope they are both fit ASAP (Rhys is supposed to back in training this week) and we can get Rhys on the pitch. We are creating chances but lack someone with the nous to put it in the net. Either that or ask him to show JCH how to head a ball and how to shoot straight!
  2. We lost for one simple reason. JCH can't head a ball. He had 4 clear cut heading chances, one a cushion header to the goalie from 6 yards in the firt half and two where he failed to connect t ll and the worst an unmarked for post header when he managed to head the ball straight down into the ground. Instead, many seek to blame Kelly or anyone else. I've seen every game this season and whilst I miss Wez and Korey, I don't blame our 90 min every game captain for them not re-signing. He works very hard for the team and will truffle to pick out our strkrs who can't control pass, lose their defenders or even run the channels....never mind the woeful inability to head in decent crosses (as Pope did so easily for PV against us). So, suggest the moaners stop targeting their own boo boys and smell the coffee as to where the main problem has been and still is! Let's hope the loan signings sort this out.
  3. I undertand that the club are going to stock a new line in rainwear for those daft enough to buy a season ticket in the RRE anywhere in the front third of the stand? it's good when the sun is shining though, pity we paly through the winter in England. Think I'll stick to the Chaddy...cold but not getting soaked soaked seat for my money.
  4. Having been at the game last night and attended all but a few games home and away, I'd like to share a few observations on our style of play. The quality of our play up to the edge of the area is good and matched that from Walsall who also tried to get the ball down and play. The big difference is that their wide men, wingers and full backs looked to get driven crosses in at every opportunity, most of which were well dealt with by Latics' clearing headers. In contrast, Latics seem coached to create a crossing opportunity and then check back, over and over again (bring back Rick Holden!) just so we can make another 20 passes before losing the ball. Get the bloody ball crossed first time and stop being so shot shy! How can we expect to win games when the opposition goalie only has to make 3 saves per game? Keeping the faith but would like some simple changes in tactics to improve our end product of all this possession.....?
  5. Great idea, good location and decent idea for fans to meet the players. Well done Latics! Looking forward to a good evening out with friends and fellow fans!
  6. On the pitch please. Work rate and passion are what we want and that is our captain. Wes and Furman to start every time for me! Interesting how well we have done without him in the side (Liverpool aside)?
  7. As soon as the club mentioned it being £15, I knew the whingeing would start! I paid £5 at Mossley the other night to watch them play a non-league team standing on a dodgy flag terrace. So shock horror, a club with no money that is trying to sign some decent players for the new season and pay off massive debts, wants to charge £15 to watch us play the champions, even if it is only some of them. Sounds like a good deal to me and is one which may help the club support Dickov's signings? Well done Latics on getting this prestigious game for BP and I've already had to buy extra tickets as the game has caught the interest of family members and friends who are looking forward to it already!! The sort of game which we need to encourage new fans down to BP?
  8. He flatters to deceive. he can be really good and awfu in the same game dependent on whether he wants to put the effort in or not. Could be a good signing for league 2.
  9. Dale is off to Norwich with a possible player exchange deal?
  10. Somone who picks a team to win the game, his best team. Personally, I would have preferred a win in the cup eve if we had to play Huddrsfield without one of our regulars if they picked up a booking. Tha first half today was a b****y shambles and was crying out for some stability in midfield. So where was Furman, sat in the stand.
  11. Some good news out of the club to add to the contract offers to Millar and Eaves. The prices are about as good as anyone could expect, being the same as 2005. I will be re-newing before the 20/5 as the team and my support for the club are more improtant than what I think or don't think about Penney. Not going just because someone doesn't like him isn't the answer!!
  12. I am going to be radical and put something positive on here. if lewis guy is happy to sign on loan for Latics (plenty of players patently are not) and help them to get out of the relegation threat, he will have my 100% support tonight and any other game he plays in a Latics shirt. If he puts in the effort he will have a head start on some of his squad mates (Parker / Smalley) If he puts in a tackle or competitive header of any sort beore the hour mark, he will be ahead of others (Whittaker) Give the lad a chance and togther with the young uns, (Eaves & Millar) and quality we all know there is inthe team, even if doesn't always show through, we may find we even get some enthusiasm in the team to play some football. It must be a nightmare for the committed members of the team to have to carry two or three every game which seems to have been the case for most of the season. Ditch the shirkers Dave and let's all get behind the lads. Sod what this means for the manager. Personally I have zero wish to see my team lose just to make some people happy about a change of manager. The opposition fans are good enough at doing that without us all joining in!!!
  13. I won't! Being a long standing Latics fan, I'm bound to be an eternal optimist, so no harm in hoping?
  14. If it look as good as this artist's impression and Failsworth holds 10,000+ in a decent set of stands which don't let the weather soak at least half of the seats, it will be a massive improvement on what we've got to suffer at the moment. It's no wonder the play is depressing when its played on BP as it is now. BP's an obsolete money pit and it's about time everyone woke up to that fact. I may live in Royton but I'm willing to travel a bit to sit in a decent ground with decent facilities. It's about time. Travelling round away grounds over the last few years has just confirmed what we all know, other clubs are leaving our facilities / ground behind, even at those clubs with smaller attendances (there are some!!). Will get down to the exhibition and see what's on offer. we've been given a chance to see the draft plans, let's hope everyone does and cuts the moaning!
  15. Time to get something positive going on here!! It is going to be a cold and wet night but the lads are going to click tonight at Edgeley Park and start to play the football we all know they are capable. An early goal would help and Pav or jason will get it for us!!! Delusional? Maybe, but then I've always been a Latics fan and i'm still keep the faith, so what do you expect.
  16. I agree that the real problem is Whittaker. I now even have bets with the guys sat around me as to whether Whitts will actually make a tackle in the game!! playing alongside him means that Daen has to spend his time ball chasing all the time and covering for lazy and back-out merchant at the side of him. if this isn't sorted out, we won't see the best of Dean in breaking forward which is what he was signed for. Interesting point is that Whittaker never gets injured, easy really when you never leave the ground or put a foot in. Still going to Norwich though as ever the optimist!!
  17. I haven't seen Bell play either but the only thing Shez has against him playing tomorrow is that he he is inexperienced / young. I believe that as he is in our squad, show some confidence in him (including on here!!) and give the lad the shirt. When is he ever going to get a chance otherwise? I would rather have one of our squad in there than a last minute recruit from who knows where coming from someone's reserves or out of retirement (Goram come back springs to mind). The idea of Windass in net when we have a young keeper on the books is crazy, even Deam said that when he admitted it is a specialist position. Have faith as well as keep it!!
  18. Glad I stuck with the Chaddy this year. I wish the club would stop trying so hard with their description of the RRE as "the new home end", it will wear a bit thin when home fans don't even get to sit in their own seat for sevaral times a season, never mind the trips up to BP to get tickets for games you've already paid for? I welcome the need to maximise the income by accommodating as many away fans as possible but I'm glad i will be at the opposite end, the one the team like playing towards. perhapos someone didn't tell the players that the chaddy is no longer the home end? Good luck to the lads tonight and even more so on Saturday at Leeds!!!! Last New Year's Day was a day to remember. T.
  19. Agree with everyone else that Crossley will be in the sticks at the start (injury aside). i hope pogs sees this as a chance to work with a keeper who has been at the top of the game for years and who only has a one year contract as the keeper and sees his future quite naturally as a coach. A 38 year old ex prem keeper must be seen by Les asa suitable competitor for the shirt. It's not as if we have signed an unknown on a long cotract to get rid of Les or we could have released him or put him on the list at the end of last year. les can only benefit fromsome quality specialist keeper coaching and crossley seemed in his interviews to be very mature about how he sees the competition between them (professional). les is one of the best shot stoppers we have ever had, so let's hope his work with Crossley will improve his confidence and all rpund skills so we will have the best two keepers in the division. Roll on the start of the season!! T.
  20. From what I have heard, it could be Nick Chadwick who is ex-Everton and has been at Plymouth for the last season (they paid £250,000 for him). he has had a serious groin injury and had an op. He is now supossedly ready for the new season. he is down the pecking order at Plymouth and is keen on a move which will get him first team starts. he doesn't look very prolific from his stats but was rated quite highly by his team mates at Everton! This is only an opinion but would be a good signing as he is no slouch and is not past it either. Keeping the faith!!
  21. Name? Tony Location? Royton How Long Supporting the Tics? 38years (makes me feel old) Best away match you've been to? Southampton FA cup match - Ritchie equaliser in 96th minute (5 hour train home to Mumps) All Time Greatest Player? Andy Ritchie - looking forward to seeing Allott playing for us and not running the midfield for the opposition against us!! Biggest Rivals (in your eyes)? Forest Kept the faith for a long time!
