  1. Got to say, I was very disappointed with Missile on Saturday. The fight seems to have gone out of him. Is he scared of racking up too many bookings? Has he been told to ease off in case he racks up too many bookings? When he had the ball, he actually got his head up and passed it well (feel free to disagree, people), but he only did that when the ball was presented to him on a plate. He didn't fight to win it and then get us going. Gardner's a frustrating bugger. There's definitely a player in there with a fair amount of skill. So often, he does the hard bit by getting away from trouble and keeping possession when surrounded by the opposition and then makes a dog's breakfast of a 5 yard pass. He'll then ping a 30 yarder straight to someone's feet, immediately followed by a free kick in a dangerous area that beats everyone including the first four rows of the terracing. Nepomuceno's corner kicks would suggest to me he's worth sticking on free kick duty. Defensively, we're starting to look frail. Teams as poor as those I've seen this season are getting in behind us and causing problems. Dummigan needs to come back in as does Taylor (again, feel free to disagree). For me, the real problems are we are so thin on the ground for defensive cover and short of a midfielder who can pull the strings and split a defence. Baxter should have been the answer to that midfield struggle but, either he just can't get fit, or Frankie doesn't think he can do a job. Unfortunately, it will be quite a while before I can see us again, so I'll have to rely on iFollow commentary and extended highlights to form further opinions. But, what I do know is, if we lose again tomorrow night, we are heading straight into the "good for the roses" brown stuff. Another defeat will do nothing for morale and will just cause more fear of further losses. The thought of not beating Hampton and Richmond after that will be one of the lowest points in all my 68 years of supporting Latics.
  2. @rosa top scores in the Premier League with 9 points, moving her up 6 places. The top 5 stay as they were, but @jorvik_latic and @JoeP are closing in. @rudemedic stays rooted to the bottom as @singe and @GravityGrave struggle to get away. In the Championship, @Bristolatic was top scorer with 5 points as @Harry Bosch regains 1st place, deposing @GlossopLatic. Five players didn't take part and @josh_latics, @daniel and @Ak's11 still make up the bottom three. Seven points was the highest score in League 1, picked up by @L1onheartNew, but it only moved him up 2 places. Once again, there was no movement in the top seven, with @Dave_Og keeping clear of @maddog. No change in the bottom five either. It's beginning to look as though @Kusunga_Is_God, @Lee Sinnott and @oafcprozac may have given up Premier League Championship League 1
  3. I didn't hear it announced at the game and there's nothing on the Stevenage site. Ours shows TBC, so I'm going off the BBC for this one.
  4. I wouldn't simply pick out Hunt for yesterday's problems. Attacks down both flanks put us in trouble and we didn't really have an answer. For me, the midfield was the area where we offered little. Gardner apart, and he wasn't consistent, that's where we broke down. Yes, Nepomuceno got some crosses in, but the big problem was giving the ball away needlessly and not winning the 2nd ball when we had the chance. I thought we liked pretty good going forward at times and Miller was a handful but, oh, those missed chances. We should have been 2 up before Miller scored and that would most likely have been game over. As I said earlier, the substitutions were baffling and, had they been made earlier and better, we would most likely have come away with 3 points. That is down to Mr Bunn. Having said that, I don't think a change of manager now is the answer, but he has to get them firing pretty dammed quick or we'll soon be in real trouble.
  5. That was a perfect example of how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I thought we started well, on the front foot and going at it. Miller was unlucky with a deflection, Benteke should have put one away and Clarke's header should have been on target. We could, and should, have had 3 by half time. Their first equaliser was a deflection, but they were getting the upper hand. Once we scored the second, we seemed incapable of building on it, gave away possession too easily and let them dictate the midfield. Once their second one went in, I'd lost all confidence we could get back in front. There was no sign of FB changing anything and we were getting overrun. Once they attacked down their right side, they were dangerous. We had no response to that. The tactics were baffling. Bunn took the wrong man off when he brought Lyden on. Did Lyden have a kick? I didn't notice. To wait until the 88th minute to bring Baxter on was completely pointless and then he compounds that by changing a right back for a right back in the 90th minute when we were 2-3 down. It just seemed to me that he simply didn't know what to do. Benteke could have been replaced, maybe by Baxter with 20 minutes to go? Just a thought. At least he would have introduced some kind of spark up front to accompany Miller, who I thought did well until he faded after about the 70th minute. And why, oh why, do we have all 11 back defending a corner. You just know that once it's cleared, it's coming straight back. The only bright spot was that I think we had a decent ref. The liner was a bit of nob, though. Disappointing to say the least. We were good enough to beat that lot, but ended up beating ourselves.
  6. They have lights on the console that tell them that the system is working. I know in the past that these are often lit when it's not working, so they don't know unless someone tells them. I'm one of those who texts when the commentary is/isn't on and also let them know when they are cut off in mid stream at half-time, full-time, any time. I couldn't today, because I was at the match. I've no idea who else they have contact with. I can assure you that Sam, Mike and Roy are as pissed off with iFollow when it fails as everyone else is. Both Roy and Luke, when he was here, had a battle with them and I understand Sam has also "had a chat". I'll stand corrected if that is wrong. Hope that helps a bit.
  7. He's training to be an opera singer. Personally, I'm not too bothered about how he is on the touchline as long as he starts getting results. Mind you, I'd hate to see him going all Penny-esque. I recall that donut at Yeovil stood staring at the open terrace when we were at the other end attacking their box. Not often you see attacking and Penney in the same sentence.
  8. So, Benteke and Miller both score. What are the odds on neither of them starting on Saturday and we go one up top with O'Grady?
  9. Miller hit the post a few minutes ago and Lang has missed another chance.
  10. I can referee for a nominal fee if it descends into a punch up.
  11. The only way is up. Blackpool did it. Doing a Shrewsbury. You need to get promoted; look what's happened to them this season. Recovering from relegation isn't easy as I'm finding out too. Mind you, some crap predictions haven't helped. I love a bit of confidence, but @maddog will be after you so watch out. Just as well you didn't bother then. O'Grady to score
  12. @lookersstandandy's edit in the Premier League did him no harm, racking up the highest tally of 9 points, shooting him 9 places up the table to 5th. @Ex_pat only missed the attendance by 10 and @singe moves off the bottom at last, with @rosa and @rudemedic in trouble. 9 points was also the best haul in the Championship, by Lawman and @pjkent, the former only being 9 away from the attendance. @GlossopLatic takes over at the top from @Harry Bosch, but apart from @Handsy dropping 4 places, movement was fairly minimal. There was no prediction from @daniel In League 1, @Nohairdontcare was top scorer with 6 points, but stays in the same place. In fact, the top seven haven't moved. @mcfluff1985 discovered that there was no mobile signal at the Jorvik Centre (of course there's no signal there. It's medieval and mobiles hadn't been invented) and posted too late at 14:52. We have to stand by that, otherwise others could post late for any reason and not be penalised. There was no post from @Monty Burns whilst three others appear to have given up. Premier League Championship League 1
  13. Given the chances of this lot scoring 4, I'd want odds with another 0 on the end.
