  1. I think OAFC0000 has got his point a bit muddled here when he says he'd like the Chron to be more pro-active in the Stadium cause. IMO, The Chron spins the most negative slants on any of the news about us having a new stadium....not sure if that's bias or just shoddy journalism....for example... This about 95% of responses from local residents didn't want the stadium. Went with a big negative headline on the front page with it. And never once said how many didn't respond in the poll, which was a hell of a lot and meant that 95% polled weren't against it, just those who responded. Bit like how 95% of people who phone Jimmy Wagg on a matchday phone to complain......that's just not helpful one bit. Also like how they reported the Ferney Farm debacle whilst the club were on pre-season, leaving them with the land owners pulling out etc. And for those saying how the club leak news later in the day nowadays, I personally believe that's done on purpose now because of past strained relations. A number of years ago it was very rarely was the case but it's fact that the club got that sick and tired of the Chrons bad press of the Latics (have people forgotten the meetings Sean Jarvis had to have with them to try and "work things out"). And things like the forums we have.....anything aired in them is saved for up to 6 days sometimes! If it's a Weds night, they save it for their "Boundary Bulletin" piece the following Tuesday. Poor! Add to that they even copied most of an article from the Programme recently. It's just gash journalism IMO. Finally, according to the last time this subject was aired (over on JK) no other local "borough" paper carries news on the Red Scum or Man S.h.i.t.t.y. Yet the Chron does. We know Bury, Rochdale etc have them fans living amongst them, but them papers take the decision to promote/highlight their home town team not others down the road. Doesn't help our cause to alter the mindset of the apathetic public, one bit! The Chron really really could be more positive and helpful. Not so much biased, but the negative slants they spout about us is a joke at times. Especially when their circulation drops (can't remember the percent, but I know it's above 50%!) during when the football season ends. PS Coco....Chris Moore didn't try to buy the Rugby....he tried to loan them £50,000....whether that was in an attempt, as Hamilton claimed it was, to buy the club "through the back door"....no-one will ever know. It'll be conjecture. And Hamiltons hardly the honest of people either.....so we should leave that one there.
  2. My my.....what a playoff this is....just got in and it's 5-5 between the Rockies and the Padres....bottom of the 6th....gunna be very exciting if it stays like this to extra innings! Go on Colorado....make it count! EDIT: Seconds after writing that.....6-5 to Colorado.....nice one! Could it be 14 wins from 15.....what a run (Colorado were 20-1 to win the World Series this morning! Crazy!)
  3. Be interesting to know what sort of wage he is getting out there. As for them figures on wages, how some of them teams can condone being so s*** with the amount they're paying is bizarre....forgot that the White Sox would be up on that list. Interesting to see Cleveland, Colorado, San Diego and Arizona right near the bottom of that list. 2 of which have made it to October and 1 other from tonights playoff. Come on Colorado.....make that run of 13 wins in 14 count....be gutting for them to fall at the final hurdle. Home advantage too....get the job done!
  4. It doesn't matter....coz we're not in bloody school any more....clearly one or two of them giving the snide, bitchy looks still think they are though! "My patch" and "cats spraying their area" spring to mind. Grow up, it's f****** Pathetic!
  5. Why, from our home game, are they even getting their highlights in before us...will we ever get ours in first instead of such highly biased opposition offerings?
  6. Seen them many times turning to fans sat behind them, higher up in the Chaddy and sniggering at their attempts to start off singing rather than joining in. Absolutely f****** pathetic!!!
  7. So there we have it...the hunt for October is decided, bar a 1-game playoff tomorrow between Colorado and San Diego to decide the final wildcard.... * AL Division Series: NY Yankees at Cleveland L.A. Angels at Boston * NL Division Series: Chi. Cubs at Arizona Colorado or San Diego at Philadelphia
  8. TBH, got to say, when it happened me and my mate thought, "uh oh, here we go....that better not come back to bite us on the @rse!" Shades of Bury away...ball kept in the away end, ref adds on another minute, Bury smash home an equaliser.....thankfully it didn't cost us.
  9. Just realised.....as the results stand, Colorado will end up dead level with San Diego and force a wildcard playoff. Them odds on Colorado still look good....shame I didn't take them, but if they qualify, would love to see them go all the way....12 wins from 13 games up to tonight and maybe 13 from 14 shortly....some run!
  10. And pop went the Mets....wow, last time I saw faces like that on fans was leaving Bloomfield Road in May! To not make the playoffs when leading by 7 games with 17 to go is ridiculous.....hard to believe, so what it must be like for the most avid of Mets fans, I can only imagine.
  11. I reckon so....looks like his body shape, if you get what I mean. Lol.
  12. If I was on better than 2mb broadband, I could. Just stream them thru different programs and make them 1/4 screen. Use Sopcast, TVU, TVAnts etc. Can be frustrating when they freeze, but it's stuff for free so cant complain....except for the score!!! Mets have blown it unless they put together a remarkable turnaround....7-1 down and the Phillies are 3-1 up....idiots! EDIT: Make that 8-1 and runners on base....looks like I'll have to cheer on another team in the playoffs. As mentioned the other day, be nice to see Cleveland take on the big boys.
  13. Lol....and yet in the "silent" Chaddy, we can't hear you singing either....there's a pattern emerging here....
  14. And there goes Glavine....not even past the top of the 1st....5 runs down and bases loaded.....going horribly wrong! Might have to hope on the Nationals winning against the Phillies, but can't see it.
  15. I thought the teams like LAA and the Cardinals spent more than the Mets? You're right though, my comparisons are more against the Man Utd of Baseball and the Red Sox than the other teams. That's why it's nice to see them take them on....and beat them (hopefully!) Right anyway.....the games just started.....got my stream up, come on the Mets! EDIT: And 4-0 down in no time What an error to let in the 4th run, complete misthrow....2 more on base now...can't see Glavine staying in the game very long at all....and again, the Shea goes silent....worrying!
  16. Gary Kelly an hero in the aftermath of the pinch-me seasons....the Tony Carss of those free-falling desperate times!!!! This guy was an absolute stalwart of what passion and belief (despite numerous s.hi.te desperate defences were put infront of him...including Sinnott, Hodgson and Hotte!) is about. Just see his anger at that Wycombe away game and his fury at the incompetence infront of him.....it never ever happened again!!! If only we had a goalkeeper like Gary Kelly now, we'd not be utter words about the deficiencies of Day, Pogs, Crossley, Miskelly, Blayneys and any other keeper we've had! There isn't a keeper (and I'm a big defender of Pogs) who lives up to Gary Kelly....gutted to hear this news! The guy had every attribute to being a goalkeeper! And as a token to Gary....the best save my eyes have ever witnesses are owned to him! Take your Gordon Banks in 1970 and throw it in the bin...I'll take that save Kelly made at Barrow away in that FA Cup replay to the grave with me! He defied science that day......to get fingertips, to their lads header and somehow push it onto the post and away defied logic! I'd love to know what he thinks his best save in a 'Tics shirt was (and pray it was that....it was truly outstanding!!!) Gary Kelly.....not a single Latics fan has a bad word about that lad!!! In one of our lowest eras........a true, true hero!!!
  17. DS......a benefit game needs arranging! It's a must and it'll get a good crowd too IMO. Time to get heads together and make it happen coz he's the Tony Carss of goalkeepers! A legend! And it's time our club came together for him IMO!
  18. Lol...but this board wasn't running 12mths ago, was it? If it was.....I weren't here? Lol! Anyway...come on the Mets.....totally f***** the Marlins tonight!!! And the Nationals beat the Phillies.....unbelieveable! Dead heat as it stands with 1 game to go!!! The Mets must win tomorrow, coz the Phillies won't lose 2 of a 3 game series to them so will win tomorrow. Thing is, I can see them both winning tomorrow and having a playoff....and the way the Mets have look dejected, losing that playoff.....please don't guys!!! EDIT: Just seen rest of scores....San Diego lose, Colorado beat Arizona, what a last day it's gunna be between them and the Phillies, Mets situation! Come on the Mets!!!
  19. You set me thinking there Gillian on this one....because strangely enough, that game was my first ever at BP. And I was convinced it was Mark Brennan who scored the only goal. Turns out, after asking a mate who knows pretty much every goalscorer of ours for the last 20yrs or so, even he wasn't sure who scored that game. So this morning he dug out a video of the goals from that season and Soccerbase (that I checked, but didn't believe, was correct.) Was actually Richard Graham who scored the only goal of that game. Why I thought Brennan did, I don't know....I guess with it being my first BP game, I didn't know who was who and just thought it was Brennan.....anyway, there ya have it. Funny how it was mine and your lads first visit to BP....was mine as my brother is a Derby fan so my dad took us.....when we scored, I jumped up and accidently bust my brothers lip with a flying elbow. Oh well....we've all got injured or injured others celebrating a goal
  20. Ah...the old IMO was missed out.....just for prosperity, I'll go back and edit the comment so it says IMO. I can express that from an onlooker, that in my opinion, that is what they have done. Seems it's touched a nerve with someone anyway for them to contact you Beardy. Interesting
  21. Lol..not sure if he'll be happy about the fact I like the Mets....the last World Series the Mets won in 86, was against the Mets (4-3). I guess the Red Sox thinking stems from the number of times they got to the WS and lost...I guess it would give you that mindset they've had, esp with the NYY for their rivals. As for Dirty Water......will have to look it up. It's good when music becomes associated to things.....it's like Mouldy Old Dough for me....every time we play, I make sure I've had a rendition of it. Conjures up happier thoughts of the Latics for me. Anyway, if you can stand the late nights, get onto that site I've posted above. Be fun if the Red Sox and Mets met in post-season (if we make it! 6-3 down now...hold on...make that 7-3 in a silent Shea Stadium!) EDIT: Well the Mets kept their bottling act going...shocker from Perez (gave up 6 runs in the first 4 innings and then was promptly relieved - I must've cursed him above) and ended up losing 7-4 while the Phillies won....and with San Diego & Arizona both winning, the wildcard looks gone now for the Mets. So they'll have to win the division, which means they'll have to win 1 more than the Phillies with 2 games to go...and to think how they were 6.5 games clear not long ago. Also seems I cursed Colorado who lost....although to be fair, is was against Arizona. And even cursed the NYY's form as they blew a 9-6 lead in the 9th inning, letting in 3 runs and lost it in the 10th inning. At least that's given me a small smile on an otherwise disappointing night. Oh well....sleep time....lol.
  22. Yeah, to be fair, maybe Boston aren't that bad. Having been to Boston (was only young, so don't remember it much....remember loving the place though...many Irish bars visited with the old man, the City bus tour & the Seaworld were mostly what I remember) I do have a soft spot for the City itself. And I was routing for them in the WS the other year when they were 3-0 down vs the Yankees and came back to win 4-3....that was what started me watching Baseball in truth. Cemented a slight interest that I had. It's the length of the season, or more the fact they play virtually every day which means I only really get into it towards the end of the season. If it came to two teams like Boston vs LA, I'd probably support Boston. But they do play the underdog an awful lot, when they ain't....I guess that's what I was alluding to Man S.h.i.t.t.y The Mets though really are more like the Latics IMO. And this choking they're doing now is classic Latics stuff! (now 4-1 down tonight...argh!) Just got MLB.com on at the moment and they're saying the players now are talking as though they won't win again and will miss the playoffs, whereas the Phillies are acting like they've done it now (which they probably have)......good discussion also about fans and the atmosphere they create and how they pounce on the players (almost like our fans do at BP.) I guess it's like Latics times a thousand....as these MLB games get for example, 50,000 fans and the players get paid millions to accept the stick....or not, as the Mets are showing.
  23. Cleveland look decent at odds of 8/1...just spotted Colorado at 18/1 with Sporting Bet....but they won't be if they win the 1st game vs Arizona tonight....time to get me a few streams of games on www.myp2p.eu (can I post that addy? Sorry if I'm not meant to.)
  24. To be honest, I forgot to mention Cleveland who are also in form....they're tying with the Red Sox on most wins (94 win) up to tonight.....and had won 7 from 8 games, until they lost their last 2 games to Seattle. Wonder if they're resting players now they've clinched their division. Regarding players, I only tend to pick up the Baseball at this end of the season and that makes it difficult to remember who is where, especially when they've moved teams. Where the Mets are concerned, Wright's been reliable all season and Beltran and Delgado's backed him up with runs. Reyes seems to be picking up his averages too lately....it's the pitching thats costing the side. Only Perez who's reliable (although, ironically, he's pitching tonight and given up 2 runs in 1st inning!)....can't see the Mets doing much if they do make post-season....big if too, just gone 2 runs down vs Florida. If the Mets don't do owt, the run Colorado on makes me want to see them take on the big boys and beat them. Mind you, as I say, with Clevelands record, they've got a good shout. Might have to have a nosey at their odds.
  25. Just thought it was a nice time of the season to open discussion now the playoffs are almost amongst us.... My soft spot is for the currently choking NY Mets (seemed clear winners of their division until a complete collapse and now in danger of giving up the title as the Phillies drew level last night). I see the Mets as the Latics of Baseball....a team with little success, putting together a squad on less than most others spend, living in the shadows of the arrogant NYY (the Red Scum of Baseball) and the Boston Red Sox (the Man S.h.i.t.t.y of Baseball) who bemoan their lack of success and talk about their divine right to win the World Series (all up until the other year, when they did so for the first time in almost 100yrs). Colorado are the red hot form team at present though with 11 wins in a row (an amazing feat in Baseball) bringing them from nowhere to within a chance of taking their division or playoff spot. Still in 3rd place, 2 wins behind Arizona in 1st, their last 3 games are at home vs Arizona.....that should be a cracker. Anyone fancying a bet might be interested in the 12/1 you can get on Colorado to win the World Series at the moment. Amazing form and decent odds! Others in-form include... New York Yankees who started off the season badly and several times blew 5 run leads. Now won 7 in last 10 and getting form at the wrong end of the season, if you can't stand them! the Phillies (Won 11 in last 14) who should make the playoffs even if they don't catch the Mets for the division title, but one of the worst teams in Baseball Washington Nationals have somehow won 4 on the bounce so might cause a big upset and the Milwaukee Brewers, who look like they might miss out if the Chicago Cubs can stumble home vs Cinnicinati (who the Cubs ended their chances of getting to Post-season) San Diego (who are in the 3-way race with Arizona and Colorado - 1 will end up missing out) who incidently face Milwaukee who are chasing the Cubs, so must win. As always though, the money men of the LA Angels (Won 5 from last 10) and the Red Sox (Won 4 from last 10) will probably come good in post-season despite their recent patchy form. Should be fun....if you like your Baseball!
