  1. agree with every word. personally think there is still a glimmer of hope of the playoffs and i wont rule it out until we are still way behind after playing both our games in hand over most. think more could have been done in the summer as i believe, as u did at the start of the season, we signed average players in the wrong positions, with the exception of hughes and davies

  3. sorry ed, by historical aspects, rather than meaning physical buildings, or whatever, i meant the protection against change. look at the clayton playing fields saga. im not saying past propasals for the site were for the best, in all honesty i cant remember any details, but the town has come out and said no development work whatsoever will be carried out on the site. forward thinking or what. i can think of no better location in the entire borough for a leisure park similar to that at sandbrooke park or pilsworth. it would go hand in hand with that of the ajacent retail park. surely the football pitches could be relocated to the site of ferney fields or something, thereby not losing the playing fields. This is all due to a promise made many years ago to the clayton family. surely this could be overcome during talks with the present day clayton family. The council in this instance have ruled out any development whatsoever in what i feel is having a detrimental effect to the borough, but now do you see what i mean by protecting historical aspects? hope ive cleared it up but its probably as clear as mud
  4. at last count, i was on 65 in 17 years watching latics, but that includes old grounds like springfield park (wigan) and non-league grounds in the cup (kings lynn etc) going to every match home and away last season helped me massively, be interesting to actually sit down and add them up again, but until someone puts a list up of every team in the country i cant be bothered looking into it myself
  5. granted, we as voters have voted in local government over the past 20 years, but is a situation where you are damned if you do and your damned if you dont. it isnt one particular party who have been in power over the last few years, two, or maybe three different parties have had a shot, and all have been pretty poor. The fact is Oldham is run by Old timers who wish to ook after the historical aspects of the town, which is a good thing, but it seems to me like they are wearing blinkers, and quite simply dont like change.
  6. Its all very well us saying what we dont like about our town, or what we want. Its all very well to stand and say its all the councils fault, but we cant just sit back and moan unless we have actually turned around and tried changing things ourself. yes, i agree its partly down to the council for mismanagement over the years, but we could have an impact if something was to be organised properly. we showed on the march strength in numbers worked, there is enough of us on here to get something started and then others from across the borough would follow us. Its all very well blaming others, but what have you done? Time to act!!

  8. Different managers work differently, if shez wants to shout at his players let him do that, and as someone rightly says you will never get a manager worth his salt saying well done or whatever on the touch line if you are 0-0 or 0-1. if you were a sales rep and you wernt hitting targets you would expect a dressing down, that rule is the same in football. If shez came out and said at the end of a defeat all the blame is on the players i would be unhappy. until then im happy if a few strong words are said on the touchline. please remind me, did fergie praise his players on sunday when united were 2-0 down? oh but i forgot, he is a crap manager who never wins anything
  9. I used to see him every morning in my student days. ya see, i worked at maccy's on the retail park near Latics and he would never go to a training session without a bacon roll meal every morning. hell, he didnt even need to place an order, i knew what he wanted already. true blue is that bloke, was on first name terms with him, and would talk about latics a hell of a lot. no doubt in my mind he will play at tics if he doesnt retire, and if he does, imo he is a future manager. No chance he will play anywhere else imo PS, how a pro footballer can have a maccys every morning and still be world class is beyond me.
  10. last year was some of the best football, i have seen from a latics side, ok, we wernt consistant, but it produced a real feel good factor around the place. wouldnt it be ironic if we got promoted via the playoffs, yet have an awful home record, and people calling for shez's head at various parts of the season. who knows, it isnt always pretty football that gets you promoted.
  11. Does it mention the vicious animals who turned up at BP that day? namely 11 Southerners in Orange? (not tangerine)
  12. summats fishy about this, how many housing estates do you know in Oldham that would be concidered a decent location for a night club? i reckon its much more likely to be Butterflies, or Henry Afrikas, or something similar.
  13. now the january transfer window is closed, the seasons run in has begun, but just where do we think we will finish? personally im a realist, top half is achievable, but with our limited squad playoffs will be just out of reach, even with our games in hand
  14. im all for the brand new screen, just pointing out from the wording of the article it sounds like it may take a little more time
  15. good idea, only downside i can see is it might be 4-5 years before we get a scoreboard, from the sound of the article.
  16. Doncaster new stadium development similar size and status always after te same bloody players Both kits are carlotti
  17. id go for him, but only on a free, not worth spending money on this bloke.
  18. If Lutons style of play is anything to go by when they played us up here, when they cheated, and assaulted there way through ninety minutes, he can stay in oblivion for me. unles of course the yorkshire shower want him back
  19. moussa dabo? dont think he completed a full second of appearances in a latics shirt did he?
  20. i agree when Porter left the side it was a loss in footballing terms, but i was one of those who wasnt that bothered about him leaving as he obviously didnt want to be here. i want people in the shirt who want to play for us, want to do well for us and want to get us promoted. how many of you can honestly say his performances after january were fully committed? Yes he was a loss, but i was more annoyed we lost the transfer fee rather than the actual player. Wellens was a loss, but if he dont want to be here good riddance
  21. nowground redevelopment has been given the go ahead this debate is irrelavent. there will be so much upheaval in the next three-four years, every single one of us will be forced to change stands at some point. this will be the greatest chance we have ever had of grouping everybody together, and getting a singing section going. i have no doubt whatsoever that once the new chaddy is open, this will become the new hub of singing, and it will have a roof that shows off our singing capabilities as well. as for the fact of nobody can hear the chaddy, well i sit in the upper main stand towards the rocky road end (i would rather sit on the side and get a half decent view at home rather than sit in the chaddy with posts and see very little of the play towards the rocky), and it is a myth you cant hear the chaddy, but i must say it is nowhere near the level it should be at. it isnt a roar, its more like a squeak. nothing against the chaddy enders, just stating a point. When we get the new ground i will be in the new main stand probably, or the current main stand depending if we get a singing section on the sides of the ground. nothing would get me sitting behind the goals at home, the view alone doesnt make it worthwhile
  22. Tbh i dont really rate him. i saw him play every game for us on loan last year and against us at bp. he had two average games for us last year, one god awful game (against Brentford away) and one good game. granted he scored two against brentford, but one was a deflection he got in the way of and another was a penalty he demanded taking. before that he was actually getting booed from oldham fans for showing a lack of commitment, and stopped one step short of sticking two fingers up at us when celebrating the equaliser. I will be fully behind him if he becomes a tic full time, but i wont be overly disgruntled if we dont sign him. i just feel there are better targets out there
  23. It wont make you play any better playing in tang, but it will make it easier to spot your man that fraction of a second quicker. every little helps i like the tangerine, why not just have an alternative tang kit? we have an alternative blue kit for home games every year. whats the difference?
  24. that is the most sensible post i have ever seen. Latics should be blue home and tang away from home. its tradition (as of this season) an update of tang would be acceptable. dont understand how they can have blue kits as a second strip though. voted for none cos i dont like any
