c.hill12
Yes, Stoke have 'Delilah' and Forest have 'You've Lost that Loving Feeling', both of which are sung straight with no reference to the club or football.. In 1997 in the Isle of Man, we sang 'Can't Help Falling In Love With You' - it sounded great and could even be heard down the street in the chippy! Although nothing to do with Latics at first glance, some of the lyrics can be interpreted to cover the supporters' love for the Club and the inevitability of the diehards returning again and again. Wise men say only fools rush in But I cant help falling in love with you Shall I stay Would it be a sin If I cant help falling in love with you Like a river flows surely to the sea Darling so it goes Some things are meant to be Take my hand, take my whole life too For I cant help falling in love with you Like a river flows surely to the sea Darling so it goes Some things are meant to be Take my hand, take my whole life too For I cant help falling in love with you For I cant help falling in love with you http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=LFSfdL5lPoY can't help falling in love with the blues. bit corny but it's a start
Diego_Sideburns
can't help falling in love with the blues. bit corny but it's a start The idea is not to change the lyrics, but to have a non-football anthem that is ours in the same peculiar way that Stoke and Forest do. Anyway, we're already a bit Corney!

JonesyOAFC
I don't see why we don't just do Guns of Navarone, in a similar vein to the way Walsall do One Step Beyond: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZy1h75QW50

Mrs. Sideburns and I have been doing it (double entendre brigade fodder) when we score, but it hasn't caught on yet. Miserable bastards won't join in! P.S. More volume on the P.A. would help. Diego_Sideburns
so any further ideas? we need a passionate song that is easy to sing Here's one for Saturday. She walked through the corn leading down to the river. Her hair shone like gold in the hot morning sun. She took all the love that a poor boy could give her And left me to die like the fox on the run. Like the fox (like the fox, like the fox) on the run. Everybody knows the reason for the fall When woman tempted man down in paradise's hall. This woman tempted me all right, then took me for a ride But like the lonely fox I need a place to hide. Like the fox (like the fox, like the fox) on the run. Come take a glass of wine and fortify your soul. We'll talk about the world and friends we used to know. I'll illustrate a girl, who put me on the floor. The game is nearly up, the hounds are at my door. Like the fox (like the fox, like the fox) on the run. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zXf3QttUPlI
laticsrblue
No one took up my idea when we had this debate in the summer, but I'll give it one more try. It's by a NW band, easy to sing, rousing, up to date and very anthemic, we even have the right accent, Elbow's - One day like this. We should adopt it before someone else does! The easy bit is 3 min 10 seconds in: "Are you ready Oldham" "Throw those curtains wide, One day like this a year'd seem me right" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILxlVqf2fYU Also catch it on BBCs red button, the album has been playing there on a loop for the past few days. On this version there is a good bass drum - bom boom - bit on the last 30secs or so of the track that could be clapped. slurms mckenzie
Blue flag was, is and always will be our anthem. Aside from the fact that no one sings it anymore.

And are seemingly unable to sing chants with words in them, unless it involves the words 'Leeds' and 'Scum'... The Elbow one seems a decent idea, i'd be happy to go along with it, simply because I love Elbow...

Drinking in the morning sun Blinking in the morning sun Shaking off the heavy one Heavy like a loaded gun What made me behave that way? Using words I never say I can only think it must be love Oh, anyway, its looking like a beautiful day Someone tell me how I feel Its silly wrong but vivid right Oh, kiss me like the final meal Yeah, kiss me like we die tonight Cause holy cow, I love your eyes And only now I see the light Yeah, lying with me half-awake Oh, anyway, its looking like a beautiful day When my face is chamois-creased If you think Ill wink, I did Laugh politely at repeats Yeah, kiss me when my lips are thin Cause holy cow, I love your eyes And only now I see you like Yeah, lying with me half-awake Stumbling over what to say Well, anyway, its looking like a beautiful day So throw those curtains wide! One day like this a yeard see me right!

If they start and sing that at Latics, or even just play it at halftime, I'll blow myself away. Sorry to be a spoilsport, but a campaign to choose an 'anthem' is pathetic. But if you must attempt to choose an 'anthem' to force on us then it must, must, must, must, must, must be an old song. Not some recent 'pop rock' garbage. How about one of these? Not on the forum perhaps, but you're right I can't hear the bloody thing anyway in the Chaddy. Mouldy Old Dough is all well and good but I'll always remember that tune as something you listened to if you were in the ground too early. To enter the arena with it being played doesn't feel right, it doesn't exactly pump up the fans or the team I would imagine, and therefore is a waste of effort. We need pump up tunes - and we need them now...
