Snowed all night and all through next morning, rang ip BP an asked - is th'match on ?..to which the reply was shouted at me - "course it's bloody on, whats up lad, ar thee a bit frit or a bit or snow" Oh fantastic, got to B.P. pitch rolled and all eight inches of snow with it, all markings re done in PURPLE and with the pitch being higher up we could all see up the players shorts !... god knows how they kept warm then, shorts like hankies !... - Southport come out for the warm up and for some strange reasons appeared a bit dubious, we come out like gazelle's prancing about in Spring...and so the story remains forever in my mind...4.40 ...yes 4.40 p.m....! Matches finished at that time as we only had 10 minutes for break. .....And we had an Orange Ball in those days as well....What amazing scenes Latics 11 - Southport 0 ..The late Bert Lister ( BLister) scored 6, there was never any possibility of matches being called off then, we simply couldn't afford to have programmes printed again or the pies sent back, but then again folks weren't so soft then either.
