Press Conference/Interview Notes

Recommended Posts

Excuse the briefness of the notes:

BIG JOE

never left - sons live here - in touch

great greating, text, phone everything

knows the staff - met everyone else

why? was asked back - nice to be wanted

chance of wembley

nothing to prove

wants to add to his rep.

9 games - wants 12

things to be tweaked

SHEZ

top 6 all season

standards too high

people think it's the right time for change

behind the scenes issues - people have made it into something - he doesn't think so

something happened but not a big deal- not effected results, would do the same thing again -- little too much to drink and its been taken out of proportion

board not happy about troubles - neither is he - but these things happen

not happy in himself with recent results and its not been happening

NOW

Shez:

It was the results which weren't going our way.

Nothing to do with the dog incident. We dealt with it appropriately. Some people were putting two and two together. Negative publicity didn't help, it should never have happened, but it has nothing to do with (leaving the managerial position).

brave of him to put his side...he didnt look relaxed looked very agitated, which is probably understandable...

reading between the lines of all that and what else has been posted,i am beginning to believe joe was asked a good few weeks ago if there was a chance he might come back.

More complete report, from the SkySportsNews Interviews:

Royle

* Feels like he never left the club, saying how his sons live in the area and he's been in constant touch with the club ever since he left.

* Said he's had a great greeting from everyone and that the texts, phone calls, faxes -everything- hasn't stopped since the announcement.

* Knows the staff and that's a big help in making it work and that he's now met everyone else he didn't already know.

* Asked why come back? He said he was asked back and that's all it's taken - that it's nice to be wanted.

* Delighted that we have a chance of Wembley - laughed about how much he loves it there and would love to go back again.

* Feels that he has nothing to prove but will look to be successful once again and add to his reputation.

* Knows there are 9 big games ahead - but wants 12!

* Things to be tweaked to make us work better, but good basis.

Sheriden

* Happy with how he did, that we've been a top 6 team all season.

* Perhaps he set his own standards too high.

* People think it's the right time for change and he can't prevent that.

* Behind the scenes issues have been made into something - he doesn't think they are and he's happy with how the club handled it.

* Something happened and he's not happy, but not as big a deal as people have made out - he does not think it has effected results, and would do the same thing again -- little too much to drink and its been taken out of proportion.

* Board not happy about troubles - neither is he - but these things happen

* Not happy in himself with recent results and its not been happening and can't argue that things were not perfect.

Second coverage notes:

Royle

  • He's not arrived with a big axe.
  • Will work to go forward, working with a quick fix to aim for a great prize
  • The glory spell will be hard to match - don't forget we were founder members of the Premier League, made two semi's and a league cup final
  • Will be hard to match that level, it's a totally different era and we don't have half a dozen internationals like we did back then.
  • He has a big target to aim for and that's what the club will do over the next few weeks.

Sheriden

  • Nothing to do with the dogs incident.
  • Dealt with and people have made of it what they wanted to meet their own goals.
  • Exact quote: "people are making things up" and that people are doing "2+2=5"

Windass

  • Could be returning to Hull and talks between Brown and Royle are ongoing.

Above are points attributed to what the person has said. In addition Royle looks bright and energetic - you can see the excitement in his eyes and I think he could be the energy that we need.

Shez sounds disapointed to have gone, you feel like he's going to miss the club, but not bitter. He does sound a little pissed when the guy goes on about the Dogs, but that's more the question than anything to do with Latics.

If I see anymore I'll post.

Step forward Mike Keegan.

I hope when he looks at himself in the mirror tonight he sees a man who to some extent has cost an Oldham Legend their job. Was it worth the £5k you got from having the AP pick up the 'story' Mike?

True, and I bet it doesnt take him more than a week to try and dig some dirt on Joe Royle.
