melia Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I have only managed to make one pre-season game so far due to being on holiday, going off what most of you have seen, what would your starting line up be for the first game? At a guess I will say: ------------------------------Brill--------------------------- Holdsworth----Hazell--------------Gregan-----Jacobsen- Taylor-----Worthington---------Furman-----Steer?--- --------------------Abbott----Parker----------------------- Quote
Zorrro Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I haven't seen anything, so I'm going to base this on nothing other than personal preference and enforced choices due to injury: GK: Brill RB: Eardley LB: Jacobson CB: Gregan CB: Hazell RM: Smalley CM: Worthington CM: Lee LM: Taylor CF: Abbott CF: O'Grady Quote
Frankly Mr Shankly Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 (edited) Brill Eardley - Hazell - Gregan - Jacobsen Smalley - Worthington - Furman - Taylor Abbott Parker4-4-1-1 formation, with Taylor and Smalley piling in going forward. Edited July 29, 2009 by Frankly Mr Shankly Quote

thelaticsfan Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 CB: Gregan CB: Hazell I know the feeling, 1st off ban hazell from passing the ball back to the keeper and then thats half of the goals prevented in the upcoming season Quote
millsy82 Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I'd personally love to see this team: -----------------------Brill---------------------- Eardley-----Hazell------Gregan-----Jacobson -----------Furman---------Worthington------- -------------------Whittaker------------------- Parker------------Abbott---------------Taylor Quote
Ernie For England Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 GK - Brill RB - Holdsworth CB - Gregan CB - Hazell (but would like someone else to be signed) LB - Jacobson RM - Smalley (Purdie when fit) CM - Furman CM - Worthington LM - Taylor CF - Abbott CF - Parker Quote
leeslover Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 CM: Lee Is there an, "eating my hat," emoticon? With Purdie out there isn't all the much room to manoeuvre TBH. I fully expect Parker and Pav to be first choice until injury (Abbott) and suspension (Parker) kicks in. Maybe shuffle Eardley and Holdsworth around a bit but it's fairly self selecting apart from that. Not sure how much of a good thing that is. Quote
wozz_oafc Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I have absolutely nothing to go on because I havent seen any friendlies but here goes:) GK Brill RB Eardley/Holdsworth CB Gregan CB A N Other LB Jacobson RM Smalley/Holdsworth CM Furman CM Worthington LM Taylor CF Abbott CF Parker Quote
cardiffexile Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Brill eardley Holdsworth gregan jacobson smalley worthington furman taylor parker abbott I have only seen the sunderland game and last season and thats why we can't start with the same central defence, therefore hazell goes as might help with ball retention, to take pressure off the defence. Zorrro Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 go on....................??? I'm under the impression Furman's injured. Quote
LeylandLatic Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 go on....................??? I agree with Zorro. As long as he's fit enough, i'd be trying to find him a place in the team, one of the best footballers at the club. GK Brill RB Eardley CB Gregan CB Rubes, but I'd hope we can bring someone else in to be honest. LB Jacobson RM Smalley/Holdsworth CM Furman CM Lee LM Taylor CF Abbott CF Parker Quote
leeslover Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 go on....................??? OK, it's Zorrro's opinion rather than a prediction, but as it appears that DP is more likely to select a bucket of rotten fish heads than Lee then I would sort of rule him out of the equation Quote

slystallone Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 The side almost picks itself really...the only 2 areas i wager could go either way are at RB & RM. If Eardley is still here come Aug 8th then i hope & expect him to get the nod at RB with either Holdsworth or Smalley in front of him at RM (until Purdie come into the mix when he's fit). If he's gone; then Holdsworth in at RB with Smalley at RM it is. The rest will basically pick themselves in a 4-4-2 formation. We need a CB in though ASAP...........!!!! Quote

I went with Whittaker in behind as it would absolve him of a lot of defensive duties, if he can find space in and around the area then we know he has a decent shot on him. He reminds me of Lampard, in the fact that to get the best out of him he needs to play in a 3 man central midfield. I'd leave Furman playing a more deeper role as he would be the link between defence and attack with Worthington (maybe even Holdworth) as a protecter of the back 4. Jacobson and Eardley would be the outlet for Furman and would get forward and support the attack. Having spoken to a few Huddersfield fans, its seems our new signing Parker likes to drift wide (he also played in a 3 man attack at Blackpool) and we know Taylor starts wide but drifts inside so it would be intresting to see these two play up front with Abbott as target man coming short and playing with his back to goal. It won't happen though! 4-4-2 is tried and tested and for some reason a few lower league players struggle to adapt to a change from 4-4-2. I honestly think playing this 4-3-3 formation would get us a lot of goals, though we would almost certainly need to buy a solid pacey centre halve because we would be exposed to swift counters. But I'd happily accept a return to the 'we'll score one more than you' days. Quote
creepy Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I'm under the impression Furman's injured. Furman is fit and playing tonight according to the chron Quote
b0ndl1ne Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 1) Not a chance of Lee making the bench........................which is a shame. 2) Not convinced Brill should be starting, I rate Fleming but if Dunfermline aren't playing him and Penney has let him go then he can't be as good as I thought. 3) Penney only ever plays 4-4-2, no chance of the formation with 2 holding midfielders, 1 pushing on (the only position Whittaker is good at) and Taylor and Parker keeping wide.......again a shame. This would also suit Worthington as all we would ask him to do is tackle and give a short pass to Furman or Whittaker... GK: TBC RB: Eardley CB: Gregan CB: HELP!!!!! LB: Jacobsen HCM: Furman HCM: Holdsworth / Worthington ACM: Whittaker RF: Parker LF: Taylor CF: Abbott SUBS: Smalley, Alessandra, Lomax, Holdsworth / Worthington, Brill. Quote
