oafcprozac Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Sad news, great footballing man RIP. RIP Sir Bobby, hopefully the arseholes in the tabloids that tried to destroy you after Euro '88 and then changed their tune after Italia '90 will hang their two-faced heads in shame. A dignified man who lived his life for football. Quote
Killens_physio Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Very sad news indeed. By far and away the best England manager of my generation and seemed like a real gentleman as well. RIP Bobby. Quote
Frankly Mr Shankly Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 RIP Sir Bobby, hopefully the arseholes in the tabloids that tried to destroy you after Euro '88 and then changed their tune after Italia '90 will hang their two-faced heads in shame. A dignified man who lived his life for football. +1 Yes, a sad day. His reign as England manager was about the last time I was passionate about the England team, well before football got "cool" and "trendy" around Euro '96. Seeing him get an award at Sports Personality Of The Year not too long back was sad. You could tell the years of fighting cancer and repeated illness had took a toll, but he carried on when others would have given up. And anyone that could turn the sows ear of Newcastle United into a force which was competing (and doing bloody well) in the Champions League must have been a good manager. They won't be seeing those days again very soon. RIP Sir Bobby. Quote

OAFC_ULTRA Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 A sad day for football. A true legend. RIP Sir Bobby Quote
Frankly Mr Shankly Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 A thread on the Sunderland messageboard just illustrates how well respected he was even amongst hated rivals. Quote
Diego_Sideburns Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 RIP Sir Bobby, hopefully the arseholes in the tabloids that tried to destroy you after Euro '88 and then changed their tune after Italia '90 will hang their two-faced heads in shame. He appreciated that he got more respect from the fans: "At least Joe Public has been very good to me. You know, he is a damned nice fellow." He was one of the nicest fellows in football. R.I.P. Sir Bobby. Quote
