Depressing

Probably many reasons. But I get the impression with Oldham as a town that the council and many of the towns folk do not like or want change and do not offer their support to the football club, which surprises me as Oldham Athletic is one of the few things I would wager keeps Oldham on the map.

Watching late kick-off. How can Morecambe (and all the rest) geti t together when we are apparently still miles away from a meaningful redevelopment?

As i remarked in another thread. ten years on from sports park and we're still no nearer. Other clubs have their stadiums up and running whilst we're still thinking about it. Then the club wonder why the fans are disillusioned!. Years of false dawns and promises have finally taken its toll on many long standing fans, something needs to happen and quickly.

Completely simple. Morecambe is a town on the up, with a growing supporter-base and a sympathetic council who sees the value in the town being home to a successful football team.

Oldham however is a decaying town that got lucky with a manager two decades ago, who's council couldn't give a flying toss about how the football team fares and whos politicians are too wrapped up in trying to keep their seat in the next election rather than being proactive in working with the club to achieve their ultimate goal.

We might be like Morecambe in another 20 years.

The Council are :censored: end of. We have no Cinema, Bowling Alley or other decent leisure facility. Large High st names have been to have a look at setting up and turned their back for one reason or another. The town is a joke, only the race riots and the highly publicised Yorkshire st are what people connect the town to. It's not very nice being from Oldham.

Morecambe is definately not a town on the up. Have you ever been there in the last few years?

I think you are being a bit too sympathetic on the town.

Tameside would welcome us with open arms...

Reading the Chron last night

Lib Dems - Looking at their options

Labour reckon they should bin the scheme

Conservatives were non-committal

Election battle looming? Another Clayton fiasco to ensue. The reason this town is on its arse is that the biggest NIMBYS are on the friggin' council, and if it means they get a bit longer on the Gravy Train they'll support/derail ANYTHING! Even when the town was the cotton spinning capital of the world, it was never progressive.

"you get what you are given" has always been the Oldham way. The football club has helped to give the town an identity now the very identity of the club is at stake the town and the council will shaft us yet again!

Some could say Oldham is like Carlsberg

It doesn't do progress or dreams, but if it did.......

Yes I have. In comparison to Oldham its a town massively on the up mate. The Midland Hotel got a £7m Urban Splash revamp, the West End has received major investment and the football club are moving to a brand new ground very shortly. On top of that the football club has secured their place in the 4th division and don't look out of place there. I wouldn't bet against them having a promotion push in the next few years.

My point is, the council at Morecambe and the council here are years apart in thinking and knowing what's best for the town.
