3 Lions
League meeting today. So basically the Premiergreed are threatening to withdraw all payments if we don't accept the new proposals. Leagues 1 & 2 have rejected it unanimously and 23 of the 24 Championship clubs has accepted the offer. So aswell as the loss of revenue this season from low crowds, we could be another 108K short next year. I'm sure this would have an adverse affect on our 2018 bid, I don't think FIFA will look kindly on them wrecking the entire league set up, which is pretty much what this is going to do. This is probably the start of Premier Greed 2 which is what they have wanting to do for a long time. Another nail in the coffin for English football..... Lincoln Blue
I feel very strongly about this. The greedy league are trying to bully this through. They really do want to cut adrift anyone they consider to not be a big club and want to fix things so that none of the so called big boys will ever go down. This will finally kill off football outside the top two divisions. The process was started with the formation of the Premier League and is now approaching a conclusion. The Premier League has not been good for English football, it has only been good for itself and lining the pockets of mediocre players. The day dreams died. EASTLEY
And the saddest part, and irony of ironies, is that Latics resigned from the League with the others to create the Premier Greed As far as I remember this they had no choice as not signing would have led to instant demotion - I think us and one other had stalled the process but were left with an ultimatum that could have been enforced leaving us back in old div 2 or the new championship. leeslover
Long term I don;t think the money coming down from the Prem makes much difference to the lower leagues as it just filters into higher player wages and agents fee. Short term it could give a big knock, especially to the clubs whose budget is more dependant on it rather than eg Dirty Leeds with a large income from crowds. 3 Lions
And we've/they've accepted it - Commenting on the decision to agree to the new set of figures, a Football League spokesman said: "Following a frank but constructive meeting at Walsall's Banks's Stadium, Football League clubs have voted to accept the Premier League's revised solidarity and parachute payments proposals. "Whilst many clubs expressed concerns about the proposals, their acceptance was considered the only viable way forward. "The Football League will now work in good faith, with the Premier League, to ensure that the resulting contract and regulatory changes are good for both competitions and football as a whole." rudemedic
And we've/they've accepted it - Great- the spineless so and sos. Does anyone know how long this new change lasts for as what is stopping the Premier League from giving the same ultimatum in 12 months time for an even deal for clubs like ours. LeylandLatic
Wikipedia is fun............ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Scudamore Ah they took it down already; it did say this; ===Football League=== On the 10th May 2010, Richard bullied the Football League into agreeing to a deal that will no doubt create a bigger gulf between the 'haves' and 'have nots' in English football. Whilst the Championship saw reasonable increases in revenues from the Premier League, Leagues One and Two saw meager increases that would have little to no bearing on their financial stability. It should also be noted the likely result of this deal is to increase the wages of footballers and see a surge in large agent fees culminating in no positive effect whatsoever. One spineless Football League spokesmen commented, "The Football League will now work in good faith, with the Premier League, to ensure that the resulting contract and regulatory changes are good for both competitions and football as a whole" whilst scrambling for crumbs that fell off a visibly 'stuffed' Richard Scudamore's plate. Scudamore commented, "When Leagues One and Two are out of the way we can get on with what really matters, making more money" as he threw fifty pound notes in the air above his head. A source close to Richard has said he plans to follow the Scrooge McDuck investment plan, in which he will exchange all his riches for gold coins, put them in a giant vault and swim in it on a daily basis. Richard has since rejected this claim. Edited May 10, 2010 by LeylandLatic

Delfer
Here's an intereresting piece by Oliver Holt, chief sports writer for the Mirror. He's a Stockport fan by the way! The Football League clubs did the right thing when they voted to accept the Premier League’s revised solidarity payments deal on Monday. I understand the reservations of the clubs in League One and League Two because the arrangement brings the establishment of a de facto Premier League 2 a step closer. It would have been better if, instead of granting 80 per cent of its aid to Championship clubs, it had split it 50-50 between the Championship and League One and League Two. But beggars can’t be choosers. The Premier League has much to answer for in the plight of lower league clubs but it isn’t obliged to give them anything. So it would be churlish to complain too loudly about a deal that gives each League Two club £250,000 a season. The onus now is on the clubs to use the windfall responsibly. He's right they don't have an obligation to give us anything, but what they have given is at best a token gesture as far as Leagues One and Two are concerned. We should have stuck two fingers up to em and cut our cloth accordingly along with the other 71 clubs. Where's our pride?
