Peterborough: Directions, Beer & Food

Recommended Posts

Peterborough United, London Road Stadium, Peterborough, PE2 8AL.

Away supporters are housed on the large covered terrace behind the goal in the Moyes End Stand, where the acoustics are good. There are also some seats available in Block A of the Main Stand.

However, if only a small away following is expected, the terrace is kept closed and away supporters are all housed in the Block A seats.

Disabled Facilities:

There are 30 parking spaces avaliable adjacent to the stadium covering all disability groups. Away supporters should check with the club for availability prior to games. Access to the stadium is generally level with ramps to terrace areas.

There are 5 adapted toilets with 2 in the home stand concourse, 1 at Executive Box level North Stand, 1 on the ground floor and 1 in the executive suite. Away supporters are warned to be prepared for a hike to the other side of the ground for a disabled toilet!

Disabled catering facilities are limited to the home stand concourse and again, this is a fair distance away for visiting supporters.

There are 10 away wheelchair bays with carers’ seats behind in the Moyes End Terrace.

Visually impaired facilities are limited to two spaces situated in the Press Box. No specific arrangements are in place for hearing impaired or ambulant disabled fans.

There are unlimited covered spaces in the North Stand on request. Carers sit alongside, although the club does not state what disability these spaces are suited for.

How to get there:

By Car:

From the South (A1):

Look for signs for ‘Football Car Parks’. Two miles after the Norman Cross junction, exit A1 and follow the signs for Peterboough (A1139) Fletton Parkway. Exit the Fletton Parkway at junction 3. At the roundabout turn left onto the A1260 Nene Parkway. Take the first exit and at roundabout turn right into Shrewsbury Avenue. At the t-junction after half a mile by Longueville Autos, turn right into the A605 Oundle Road. Fair Meadow car park is on the left hand side after one mile and the stadium is opposite.

From the North (A1):

Exit the A1 at signpost ‘Leicester, Peterborough, North A47’. Turn left at t-junction onto the A47. Exit the A47 after 5 miles at junction 15. At the roundabout turn right onto the A1260 Nene Parkway. Exit the Nene Parkway after 1 mile. At the mini-roundabout by the Gordon Arms turn left onto the A605 Oundle Road. Fair Meadow car park is on the left after about 1.5 miles.

From the East (A47):

Pass through the village of Eye following signs for Peterborough A47. At the roundabout turn left and at the next roundabout turn right. At the following roundabout take the 2nd exit. Then as for the directions from the North.

Car Parking:

The pay and display council car park at the stadium is £3 (up to 10 hours) from 7am-5pm and £1 (unlimited time for the day) from 5pm-7am. An alternative car park at the stadium is £3 for cars (home and away fans) and £14 for coaches.

The police advise visiting fans to park in the Fair Meadow car park on Oundle Road.

There is also plenty of street parking available.

By Train:

Peterborough station is around a mile away from the ground. It takes about 10-20 minutes to walk from the station to the ground.

From the train station to the stadium: turn right out of the station and into the long-stay car park. Go under the railway bridge and walk up the path or steps to the main road. Turn right, passing the Evening Telegraph on the left-hand side and Asda to the right. Turn right into the pedestrian shopping area (Bridge Street) and straight on over River Bridge and the mini-roundabout. The stadium is on the left-hand side.

By Bus:

No buses run from the train station but the bus station is just across Bourges Boulevard. From the train station: turn right out of the station and then left. Take the footbridge over the main road to the bus station.

Where to eat:

There is a burger bar just outside the ground, a KFC opposite the ground and various food outlets along London Road.

Where to drink:

The Cherry Tree on Oundle Road accepts home and away supporters. It costs £2 to park in their car park but the £2 is refunded when purchasing drinks at the bar.

The Palmerston Arms welcomes away fans and has a wide selection of real ales on offer. This is about 100 yards further down Oundle Road from the Cherry Tree on the opposite side.

The Peacock is next to the KFC drive-through, and offers a selection of beers, Sky TV and a beer garden.

The Coalheavers, 5 Park Street, Peterborough PE2 9BH, is only about a couple of hundred metres from the stadium. It has eight handpumps serving real ales from Milton Brewery and other independent breweries around the country. One handpump serving real cider (usually Moles Black Rat) and Weston’s country perry always on. The only concession to Keg is Taddington Brewery's Moravka, claimed to be an excellent craft-brewed British lager from Buxton. It also offers free wireless internet access which you are welcome to make use of (just ask at the bar for the password).

Charters is a former Dutch barge moored on the River Nene just a few minutes walk away from London Road, on the left hand side of the bridge, going towards the town centre. Upstairs is a Chinese restaurant, but downstairs there is a bar which has real ales.

The Brewery Tap is near to the train station on Westgate and is the home of Oakham Ales, the Brewery of which you can also visit.

Alternatively, the ground is in walking distance (10 minutes) of the town centre where there are plenty of pubs.

The Coalheavers is an excellent pub too and just a couple of hundred metres from the ground:

"A traditional pub. No music, no machines with flashing lights, no jukebox, no pool table and no television (although we do have free wireless internet access which you are welcome to make use of; just ask at the bar for the password).

We are proud of our selection of bottled continental beers, usual and unusual spirits, and a fine selection of single malt whiskys.

We serve fresh rolls Friday along with huge doorstep sandwiches on Sunday — we also host occasional bbqs and curry nights — why not become a fan of the pub on facebook to receive email updates of any events?

The Coalheavers has two excellent beer festivals a year in May and September.

The pub is very dog friendly with a large garden.

We serve fresh rolls Friday–Sunday."

Called into Coalheavers season before last with my daughter, think we were the only Latics fans in. Good ale but as the report says, it is a bit basic.........nearer to a plank and trestles than a bar but the locals were fine.

Point to note though.....parking is very limited here as it's narrow, one side only street parking.
