10am Pitch Inspection at Spotland

Recommended Posts

Makes sense, but I think it'll off tbh, at 10am it'll still be pretty cold and they're not confident of anything improving. We know better than anyone that our covers are :censored:e, despite what the manufacturers say.

Playable today, but temperatures are really supposed to drop tonight

If at 10 am it is frozen, why not get some heaters and warm it up a bit, theyve got until 3pm to soften it up, 10 is a bit early to call it off

But the thing is, even if the frost disappears with the help of heaters, there is no way of knowing it won't reappear during the match and the pitch becoming unplayable.

Only undersoil heating ensures the surface will remain frost-free.

Just a few quotes from the statement,

Rochdale are optimistic that tomorrow's npower League One derby against Latics at Spotland will beat the freeze.

"The situation at midday today (Friday) was that the Spotland Stadium pitch was playable.

Both clubs have agreed to hold a precautionary pitch inspection by the match referee at 10am on Saturday

To me it sounds quiet positive, they are optimistic it will go ahead. Last nights tempretures are the same as what is forecast for tonight and at midday today it was playable, so why wont it be tomorrow? The pitch inspection is just a precaution.

Im sure it would be more cost effective for both teams if they got a full big heaters from a local plant company. Police costs will have to be covered anyway, as Im sure the lads will still go Rochdale even if its off, so surely it would make sense to spend a few hundred quid on a few big heaters. Bang em on at half time aswell, warm the fans up!

i understand the need for an early inspection but at 12 noon the sun has been on it for a while at 10am it may not have warmed up enough

I think its more in the hope they can confirm its def on as early as possible, if its not 100% playable im sure they will have another inspection around 12/1pm.

They will do to save wasted journeys from afar.

The OS points out the thinking is that the condition of the pitch at 10:00am will neither deteriorate or improve significantly throughout the rest of the day.

Still stuff they can do to help it if frozen at 10, heaters, burning stuff etc..

But with the thinking being that the condition of the pitch will not improve from 10:00am onwards, it sounds as though they won't be doing the other stuff. If they intended to do anything to improve the pitch after removing the covers in the morning, they would have fixed the pitch inspection at a later time to allow time to do their stuff.

As it stands it seems to be a case of at 10:00am it's either on or off - end of story.

Couple of hundred flatulent monkeys.....

Strategically placed goats smoking cubans....

A magnifying glass sellotaped to baldy Hill's head....

Phil Woolas and Barry Owen hold a discussion in the centre-circle...

Get 0000 roped into a debate in the Sandy Lane...

Have Tonk, M'Voto and Trotters glare at the pitch menacingly...
