oafc-latics
New Stand - 606? just seen this on 606: Just heard from a local councillor that a local building company has offered to build a new stand at BP for a very good price - wonder if Corney & Co will stop chasing the millions & take them up on their offer? if it's true, would you take it up and see it as the help we need to redevelop BP? it would have to be a good stand and we wouldnt want to be left with half a stand if this mystery company left halfway though. would give the board another option though or would it still be too expensive to redevelop even if it was stand by stand? HarryBosch
they'd have to be tempted if we go up and there's been no real progress towards Failsworth or Plan B
HarryBosch
Lets face it WE could build a new stand as a community if pushed must be enough labour /skills on here to do the job no we couldn't.

If true, their are 3 options: - Reject it - Sue the council as it is reported can be done due to misleading information etc so we have some finance to build it.. - Get the council to fund it, as it is likely it will cost the council less than being sued, and still do need council on our side if we want to stay in oldham.. HarryBosch
no we couldn't. Why not? Go on convince me.... must be countless tradesmen. Who will build it? what? really? Edited February 9, 2011 by HarryBosch
oafc0000
This is why I like the idea of the club being run like a co-op... Within our fan base their must be countless tradesmen... I wonder how far you could run with this idea... Has anyone ever done it ?
ritchie82
Dear me unless we are funding the building of a stand with drug dealers, under age hookers or NIMBYS then it wont be happening at BP as thats all Oldham is rich with. Unless TTA's or SC blah blah sell the BP site for houses they are not build anything as they wont have the money for it. Its not a hard concept. The odds on Oldham Council paying for and build a stand on land they don't own for a club they seem to not give a :censored: about are similar to those of Harvey Price winning the steeplechase at the London 2012 Olympics. But the will be plasterers, shop fitters, air con engineers, scaffolders and the like Skilled as they are, and there will be highhliy skilled amonst us, I am not sure many have any experience as stadium [AND leuise facilities] builders. Or that the insurers would let them. It would be a bit like a getting the landscape gardner to rebuild your house. This as to be the most insane thread int he history of OWTB. It's 606 for goodness sake. It could be done I suppose.. Edited February 9, 2011 by singe

Anyway, just an idea

Without doubt there would some specialist sub-contract requirement, but that would largely be the architectural design. Groundworks, steelwork, poring concrete, brick-laying, services, fit-out etc are all much of a muchness to the lads on site.
PlayItLivo
no we couldn't. A bunch of cavemen with sticks and stones built the Pyramids. I'm sure we could muster up a 4,000 seater stand between OAFC Stakeholders. Edited February 10, 2011 by PlayItLivo

You say specialised labour is required to build small-to-medium sized spectator stands? Fair enough if so, I'm surprised. I thought only the design team and odd specialised subby would be required over and above typical tradesmen with diverse but unextraordinary experience, as I said? I wonder how far you could run with this idea... Has anyone ever done it ? you could advertise for help,im sure there would be architechs amongst us...as well as other construction people, but you would need to ask for certain skills and see if people wanted to offer there services...but in theory yes it could be done... however...how is building one new stand going to help us financially???? the old sports park idea was to build a new main stand were the lookers was,to incorporate the facilities to make us financially viable and not solely dependant on entrance fees.... so would this person be just throwing up a 4 or 5k stand..or the whole shabang??? singe
I totally agree with Ed, we are not talking a 3k stand, we are talking something with extra facilities. But there is a mood fro some it can be done, so I won;t be defeatist. Right OK lets put the word out. What skills, jobs have people got on here. Job and type of work you are qualified to build in. Not me, totally unrelated work. And even I recognise this is specialist, you need people qualified to do it, not laudable amateurs. But if people think there are the skills out there, lets ask. So does anyone have the construction skills or experience required?
BigfinLatic
I have to say, I've seen some utterly brilliant threads on here before, however discussing the fans building our own ground for :censored:s and giggles has to be up there. Awesome. I can put together IKEA furniture. I'll be there with a screwdriver and a tub of no more nails. I can donate one sunday afternoon every month. Carry On. BigfinLatic
Bit of MDF work you say? You're hired! Awesome. I'll just tell the wife, she will be highly amused when I tell her i'm building Oldham's new ground. Especially after the strop I pulled when she asked me to hang a simple picture at the weekend.
