Latics legend Ian Marshall had a hard job convincing Joe Royle that he was a better striker than central defender. He sored 36 goals in 170 games for Latics before being sold to Ipswich. When he returned to BP as a striker with Ipswich and scored, he ran all the way up the Main Stand touchline to gloat in front of Joe Royle! He went on to score 32 goals in 84 games for them.
