Is football heading back to the fans?

Recommended Posts

I was watching a program on TV last night about being German. The guy presenting was living as an average German in Nuremburg. He went to watch Bayern Munich, and got good seats all for the price of 15 euros, and I think that includes public transport to the ground. Fans own the clubs over their, and it's nigh on impossible for a Russian or American billionaire to buy a club.

How does the term "fan-owned" work then?

If I won £150m on the Euromillions, bought the club and ran it on my own, would it still be "fan-owned" or would I be a "sugar daddy"?

Good point and I see where you're going with that, I think it's something along these lines:

  • The Board will be democratically elected by its members, where members are the fans who pay into a membership scheme.
  • Decisions taken by the membership will be decided on a one member, one vote basis.
  • The club will develop strong links with the local community and strive to be accessible to all, discriminating against none.
  • The club will endeavour to make admission prices as affordable as possible, to as wide a constituency as possible.
  • The club will encourage young, local participation - playing and supporting - whenever possible.
  • The Board will strive wherever possible to avoid outright commercialism.
  • The club will remain a non-profit organisation - all money will be redirected back into the club and the local community.

You could put in as much as you wanted into one of these clubs yet you would still only have one vote amongst the other voting membership.

And you'd be a right :censored:ing mug. I love you all but if was putting £50 big ones into the club i would want a bloody big say in how it was spent. Cross that bridge when i come to it i suppose

You right of course, and maybe that's the point. Is it set up that way to prevent one-person ownership? I'd say that's the case.

But i think my case would be heard if we were bumping along in the sixth tier having to sell our kids (and i don't mean the youth team) to pay the bills each month. Hell, i'll even give the fans a seat on the board!

I think the money is all put into a pot over the season and that determines the budget the following season
