Women's World Cup 2019

Recommended Posts

No WWC thread? Shocking. Patriarchy. Anyway, my thoughts so far....

-VAR is a pain in the arse, apart from in the England v Cameroon game, when it was top bantz

-the new 'whether intentional or not' handball is absolute bollocks. There was no more the Japanese defender could have done v the Netherlands to stop the ball hitting her upper arm, other than chopping her arms off before the game. To give her a yellow card on top of the pen is utterly ludicrous.

-Phil Neville's slightly gone up in my estimation, although him copying Gareth Southgate's clothes reminds me of the episode of the Young Ones where Rick wears the same dungarees as his lecturer

-Scotland were unlucky but fucking hell, chucking away a 3 goal lead in a must win game at your first World cup is peak Scotland

-USA are probably gonna win it. Again.

Agreed on VAR - I hate it but the Cameroon squad losing their shit was proper entertainment.

Mini-Southgate seems to be doing alright but did you see the interview where he was asked what adjective he'd use to described the Lionesses and clearly had no fucking idea what an adjective is?!

Shit officials - just like any men's WC.

The quality of the women's game has come on loads in recent years but why are the keepers so crap?

It's a specialist position in a developing game, a lot won't have played football when they were little and it's only at professional clubs (and we've only just gone fully pro in England) that they have specialist training. I've been impressed with some of the keepers, the Chinese one looked very decent.

OH AND ANOTHER THING..... If they're gonna be hyper strict about keepers having both feet on the line when penalties are taken then they need to be equally strict on attacking players encroaching on the area.

I thought the Jamaican GK was decent too.

Tonight will be a tough game for the Lionesses but I don't think Norway are as good as they once were.

Excellent performance by Sweden to beat Germany. Very impressed with Blackstenius, Germany couldn't cope with her on the break.

We all looking forward to Phil Neville's press conference this afternoon, yeah?

I decided against starting one after the last thread about women’s football turned into a sexist free-for-all.

Yeah I don't blame you. Can't say I'm gonna miss having someone tweet every goalkeeping error a woman's ever made at me, or someone responding to me RTing Hope Solo by replying asking "have your shaved your vag", or being texted a meme of a sink full of dirty dishes with the caption 'don't worry lads they're coming home'. Jesus Christ, men, have a day off.
