Sparkleking
1st September 1979 Came across this on a football-related website. We had the biggest win this day 43 years ago in the old 2nd Division. A division we shared with the likes of Newcastle and Chelsea. Oh, and Wrexham and Notts County who we still share a division with.
disjointed
Some names on the goalscorers in the division, Toshack, Hales, Withe, Mason and Blisset. Not forgetting Stainrod, my 2nd favourite player ever to play for Latics.

astottie
I was travelling the US at the time aged 21. I was in a Greyhound station in the South possibly Fort Lauderdale and saw a guy who looked English with luggage as if he'd just arrived. I took a punt and asked him if he knew of any football scores from the day before. 'Nah, only Sunderland lost 3 nil to poxy Oldham.' Made my day.
