So how has he been found guilty twice if he was allowed no appeal?

My understanding it that Evans was refused leave to appeal his conviction by a Court of Appeal judge in 2012........

I dont see Dave suggesting we need to replace the jury system with anything. He's simply commented on the fact that that some people can see it's not infallible.

I suspect that would be the least of my concerns. I think I'd rather die than live with the stigma of a vile offence I knew I hadn't commited. If you ever get the chance to speak with anybody who has been accused of this particular crime you should ask whether they would admit guilt if they hadn't commited the offence if they thought they could go back to their old job etc, and I suspect you'll get the same answer. People have been quick to scream about how vile rape is (and it is, of course it is) but have people considered what it must be like to have that stigma attached to you when you KNOW you are innocent of the crime?! Incidentally my wife's friend had a male friend who was accused of rape. It was only after he'd commited suicide leading up to the court case that his accuser admitted she'd made it up. I think you said on an earlier post in this thread that you would have accepted the jury's verdict, apologise and tried to move on if you were in his situation. If you genuinely believed in your in your own innocence (which he reportedly does)I find that stance utterly staggering!

And accept being a convicted rapist for the rest of his life?! If it were me there no way on gods green earth I'd accept responsibility for a crime I believed that I didn't commit.

Whilst I'm yet to be convinced of the maths in the ticket price, that's about the most sensible post I've seen in this thread!

His conviction (which he believes to be unjust) is undergoing a review J. His legal team have told him to say NOWT. I'm almost certain that statement or one very similar would have been issued just ahead of us confirming his signing. That way he would have shown regret or remorse for the consequences of his actions that night without having to apologise for the crime which he still believes he didn't commit. The club knew this and were willing to take the flak of announcing his signing after he made the statement. Only somebody decided to let the cat out of the bag on Sunday creating a media :censored:storm before the club had managed to get to get all it's ducks in a row. The club knew if he made that statement before they'd got his signature it would scupper any hope of him signing for us as a bigger club would have jumped in and taken the chance. He may as well have still made that statement today, as the chance of any club going anywhere near him now without it after the :censored:storm we've seen this week was absolutely non existent.

Maybe this apology and statement had been planned all along by Evans and Latics and would have been delivered as part of the press conference confirming we'd signed him. Would have saved all this moral outpouring from turds like Milliband!! Until some dick blabbed to the press on Sunday and the whole thing has been played out in the media! What a :censored: sandwich this whole situation has turned in to!

That's unfair Tony, you are better than that. The club have a direct responsibility to protect their staff and are in a position to be able to do so.

My take on things (for what it's worth). I though we didn't play particularly well at Rochdale despite the result and we were poor against Doncaster the following week. Having wobbled a bit in those games I thought Saturday was criminal. A ridiculous change of system from LJ that none of the back 5 looked comfortable with. I also think Rachubka can think himself unlucky that we was dropped. I don't think he'd done a great deal wrong prior to Kenny being brought in. I've not seen the goals back from Saturday but for the one that hit the post and rebounded, Kenny never moved for the initial shot nor for the rebound, and it looked from the Chaddy End that he was a million miles away from getting down anywhere near the 4th. Kasunga was incredibly poor, allowing his man to get goal-side of him for one of the goals (2nd?) resulting in having to head the ball into the middle of the box, and trying to be too smart for the 3rd instead of putting his foot through the ball. That's fundamental stuff. Really simple, SIMPLE stuff! Hopefully this will serve as the monumental kick up the arse they need and we'll get back to doing the simple things which have served up so well until the last couple of games.

He should have also been talking to the players about it on Saturday. The ball boys know they are only supposed to use the spare balls when the match ball goes into the building site, but that hasn't stopped the players of both sides yelling at the ball boys to give them a ball. I imagine it's pretty intimidating for and 11 or 12 year old to be yelled at on top note by some big 6 footer.
