  1. Other than cash upfront, Horners have supplied lease cars (at advantageous rates or even free?) to some club officials (Shez etc). So the cost to the club may be more than the loss of cash.
  2. Accoding to Gareth Griffiths, former captain at Dale, who was close to Ernie, Chris Killen and Will Haining travelled down to London from Scotland to be at his bedside - it shows the affection in which he was held by colleagues, past and present. Having lost my dad last year I know what it is like to lose a close family member - my heart goes out to Louise, Ernie's dad whose wife died nor so long ago and all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace. Never forgotten.
  3. What I hear in these parts: 1. He lives in Warrington and with a young family Shrewsbury is only an hour away (but so is Oldham). 2. At almost 35, Shrews was the only club that can offer him a regular first-team football. 3. He wants to get into coaching, he is taking badges, and Shrews offered him help with that (he already has helped with the reserves at Blackpool). 4. While dropping two divisions is disappointing, he wants to keep playing as long as possible and Shrews package offered the best deal. 5. While he has many friends at Lashers, and is a popular figure at the club, Grayson was right to release him because of his age and doubt over his fitness.
  4. When Winkelman moved Wimbledon FC to Milton Keynes at the end of the 2001-2 season, the FA authorised the move and allowed them to continue in Division 1 (now the Championship). At the end of the next season, when the club was relegated to what is now the League 1, Winkelman changed the name to MK Dons. That's even greater crime than what is effectively a new club being allowed to start in League 2.
  5. Trophies have gone back to the London Borough of Merton, which covers Wimbledon, not to AFC Wimbledon, which now plays in Kingston-on-Thames. While MK Dons have agreed not to claim they are successors to the now defunct Wimbledon FC, they have never acknowledged the current AFCW to be so, spiritually or otherwise. So the verdict of the footballing world (the supporters) on MK Dons remains open.
  6. Or just make it extra parking space, a la Blackpool? Seriously they have to have high enough boarding to stop people getting a free view of a game
  7. Last year, I scheduled several flights from the Far East to be back in time for a Latics match. Once I touched down at Manchester around 6 pm and drove straight to BP for a midweek match, after travelling for nearly 20 hours (and 15 hours in the air).
  8. 60 so far, but included is Franchise's old ground (haven't been to their new one) and some grounds I went to as a neutral.
  9. Yes, and Wes is linked to a host of Championship clubs, all with greater potential and bigger purse than Lashers. Along with Wes, Kaspar Gorkss and Claus Jorgenson (who's been offered a new contract) are expected to leave. Keigan Parker has joined new manager Stan Ternent at Udders - at last 14 League One clubs were interested in him, according to the player!
  10. Even without the incentive to make up the -15 points of last season, they will be odds-on to get automatic. We can just stay in their slipstream and sneak the second
  11. And they have taken over Blackpool! No hotel room to be had.
  12. I bought mine on 29th May, and I usually get it early (playoff at Blackpool was 19 May), so yes, they started selling after we knew our destination
  13. That may be so, but the majority of L1 clubs do offer concessionary season ticket to full-time students. Perhaps there isn't too much demand from students, as Oldham isn't a student town in the way many larger cities are? If the same documentary proof for genuine student status is used for ST as for student concessionary scheme, you can cut abuse substantially. I'm sure if enough noise is made to the club from existing and future students - who will hopefully become the backbone support for years to come, it will be seriously considered and perhaps made available in future years. Why doesn't someone write to AH and ask for the board's views?
  14. And no priority booking for cup ties, away games and play-offs!
  15. Morrell is expected to leave Lashers, according to local rag.
  16. Useful in set pieces, strong header of the ball. A poacher like Beckett, but can't pass, has no pace. Yesterday did nothing other than score in opening minutes, converting a loose ball in the box.
  17. Tense game but not a lot of good football. Best players: Hoola, 'cheating' McPhee. Quiet game for Gorkss, Burgess did nothing other than scoring in 1st min. Watford knew they'd be safe with a draw, so the last 15 min was played out at pedestrian pace, with lots of time-wasting by both sides. With several key players set to leave, Lashers will have a battle on hand to stay up next season.
  18. He has dropped down the pecking order after the early season form of Morrell, Burgess, and latterly McPhee and Dickov. He's been wanting to leave for some time, even almost going to Barnsley in January for £150k, but couldn't agree personal terms. Parker wanted more than what Barnsley was prepared to offer a striker unproven at Championship level. Since then he has made a couple of appearances off the bench. He still trains with the first team, and AFAIK there hasn't been a major fallout. Like Vernon - shipped out to Colchester, he just wasn't getting a game.
  19. Turn up at Latic shop weekdays around lunch time - you bump into half the squad!
  20. It was made in response to threats by Carlisle United and Doncaster Rovers that if Leeds United were to get some or all their points back during the current campaign, and as a result they were to lose out on automatic promotion, to take legal action to challenge it. Whether the points are awarded, if any, this season or next, nobody except Leeds are going to be happy, though if it's done now, it will only impact on a handful of teams, including those still hoping to get into play-offs (us included!).
  21. I have heard on the radio that because of this delay, any points returned, if any, wouldn't become effective until next season. So everything would stay as it is, and Leeds, whether they go up through play-off or stay down, would then start the season with plus points.
  22. In the second half, when we were attacking the home end, he showed a bit of frustration at some of the non-decisions given against their right back. From that moment, every time he touched the ball there were boos, name-calling and what have you, and constant chant of 'Taylor, Taylor what's the score'. It wasn't that bad, something we often do to away teams at BP. Sadly, Taylor got himself wound up and received a silly booking for dissent towards the end, which gave further ammunition to home crowd. Glad he and the team got over it quickly, and Taylor took his goal well against Leyton.
  23. Other teams seem to have sussed out how to play Blackpool: keep Hoolahan and Taylor-Fletcher quiet (double-mark them!) and cut out service to McPhee and Dickov, and beat them with pace on a break (Crainey's lack of pace is well documented). I saw them against West Brom on Tuesday and once Philips converted the penalty, Lashers just fell apart and Baggies could have scored 5. Looked like they weren't up to much at Cardiff today and they are now in freefall. With three tough matches coming up, I don't rate their chances highly, though they could just avoid the drop as neither Coventry nor Leicester are on a roll.
