  1. I agree the abuse that was directed at Eardley, Davis , Crossley and others at times was vile. We all understand the culture and language used at football matches, but some were just over the top last night. One lad sat next to me to the left of the goal row G hurled foul mouthed abuse every time there was a mistake. Just the type of fan we don't,who only "sing when were winning" and sneak out before the end. Professional football is a high tempo game often with fine dividing lines between success and failure some idiots don't understanfd this and if they are not prepared to say something to someones face then don't say it. Take the rough with the smooth and hope that there is more smooth. This season on balance there is certainly more smooth. Roll on Hereford.
  2. The Lookers has been knocked down years (decades maybe)before the sod can be cut on a replacement. Most Lookers fans have been displaced to the RRE with all the well chronicled problems, although the atmosphere is good. Displaced again today, unnecessarily and found the seats at the Sheepfoot lane side were a filthy disgrace. Some went to the trouble of having to get paper towel to clean them they were that bad. Come on Simon/Alan get a grip. If the Director's box was like that heads would roll. Don't moan about attendances with disgraceful customer service like that. In any other walk of life outside that of the football supporter refunds would be demanded. Rest assured we will be at Stockport next week and back for Hereford and back in the small section for Leicester when we do just show us more respect.
  3. One of the biggest problems is that we lose kids that we have nutured as Latics fans when they reach the age of 17 who can't get a child rate season ticket. What happens is that they drift away. They can get a student card which entitles them to entry at £11 per game, but if a suitably priced season ticket was introduced for under 21s we would have a better chance of keeping them as attending fans as they progress into adulthood. I know of several home and away fans having reached the age of 17 who haven't been this season. They are still studying full time and basically can't afford it. The days of leaving school at 16 and moving into a full time paid job have long gone and at that age they have an increasing number of competing demands on their finances.
  4. Yes but some will not bother to learn. In today's economy the customer is king and business' need to bend over backwards to make it as easy as possible for customers to pay at the right price
  5. You would hope that Alan hardy and his Burnley counterpart discuss the pricing as we have an equal stake in it. What happened to pay on the night for concessions. The world's gone mad health and safety and PC and all that presumably rule the day, rather than business sense in a falling market.
  6. There are 4000 Latics supporters who will attend games while Latics are in Division 1 hail rain blow snow. The rest are customers and need to be encouraged, and will attend for a winning team, in good weather, and favourable personal circumstances, whatever. So why on the same day that Simon complains about attendances, are we asking concessions to buy tickets in advance. Some will treck down to Boundary Park, some won't be bothered and some will not be able to. There will some concesions who won't make it to Burnley tomoorow because they won't have a concession ticket and by the nature of being concessions can't afford the entry price. So why do Latics and Burnley decide to put barriers to entry in place, and therefore have empty seats with nil £ on their back. Join the real world football, as well as supporters football has customers.
  7. I don't think for one minute that Simon is having a pop at those that do go, but from day 1 TTA have looked at crowd potential through rose coloured spectacles. In their first interview on GMR they quoted average crowds of 6000,(did someone mislead them about Oldham). I went on to say they were closer to 5500 probably 5000 core support. Other factors working against them are: Indigenous population declining at the rate of 5% every 10 years Oldham council inability to bring quality jobs to Oldham, resulting in a low wage local economy Lack of incentives for OAP's and those that reach the age of 16. I know 3 17 year olds, former home and awayers, who haven't been this season can't afford it. Life has moved on not many kids leave education and move into jobs at 16, move with the times Latics, once these kids lose the thread they are lost forever Demolishing the Lookers, some haven't renewed season tickets, many who have moved to RRE are restless don't like the view from behind the goal, and too much hassle going on. If the view from behind the goal is as good as at the side of the pitch why don't we ever see a Directors box behind the goal( even when the team trot out from behind the goal E.g. Burnley) No promotions or relegations in the last 10 years a relegation and promotion would have left us in a better position supporrt wise than the current inertia in League 1. The floating voters unfortunately ain't had any glory to hunt. TTA wil have to sell, that is the reality of the situation, and I support them wholehartedly, but sending out the message that he has in the last week of the transfer deadline is naive, it tells clubs putting in bids this week, that they have a reasonably strong bargaining position.Any reasonable offer will be accepted. Thanks for everything TTA and KEEP THE FAITH I know its hard
  8. I agree there were about 10 pratts in front of us today(RRE left hand section). Standing up all the time shouting obscenities at the Cheltenham fans(wow), pissed up, arrived late, left 1st half early(missed hughies 1st goal) arrived back late. Not interested in football. We moved across to right no problems, still good atmosphere, but everyone was there supporting the team and watching the game. The stewards didn't apprehend the pratts concerned which they should have done if they are applying the rules consistently. As we all know 95% of the trouble in grounds home and away is caused by stewards.Get rid of stewards and the pratts, then we can all have a good time and enjoy supporting latics.
  9. Terrible news all our thoughts with his family Ernie for England Ernie for Oldham Ernie for Heaven
  10. Although many of didn't know Ernie personally we almost felt we did. Effort and guts will always have a more lasting impression than skill. Hope he makes the birth of his baby, who has a hero of a Dad to look up to, as the legend will live on.
  11. Its not being negative for the sake of it, if you see what is going on out there in the property world things are dire. As far as costs are concerned I don't think there will be a reduction, commodity prices such as steel are rocketing.
  12. Not a cat in hells chance. Alan Hardy has confirmed that building will not start until a developer buys the land. In the current climate who is going to make a speculative purchase. The value of the land is falling and the ground development will have to be scaled back further. I predict we will be lucky to have a Lookers replacement before 2012. The Lookers is only being knocked down to keep some semblance of false hope alive and to save face after all the fuss over planning permission, the lack of progress will be quite rightly blamed on the credit crunch.
  13. I agree how many of you lot have volunteered to turn up at my door in the middle of winter to collect a couple of quid for the latics lottery. Also some people on here have a humour by pass his comment on the Good the Bad and the Ugly was a harmless joke and was taken in good part by all.
  14. Stewards cause 95% of the trouble in grounds. One lad who is a non smoker was ejected from the Chaddy End the other week for smoking, all that had happened was that someone had thrown a cigarette at his feet. I had a discussion with an overbearing Steward Supervisor yesterday who was looking for trouble, as they do, and the conversation finished with him telling me "I've been doing this job for 15 years and I know what I am doing, we need protecting as well you know" not if you're sat at home mate you don't , then there wouldn't be half the problems.
  15. I have seen plenty of away wins, but at home it is becoming a nightmare. unfortunately I missed the home FA Cup tie at home to Crewe so I haven't seen a home win in the league since 29th September, yes 29th September. In proper games we have only won against Crewe twice( 1 League and 1 Cup) and Swansea on the opening game of the season when were very lucky. It is unbelievable that we are so tactically bereft of ideas that we can't work out how to win home games. So my plea is please Shez work it out, home form is the bedrock of any football club and its supporter base, if this continues for the rest of the season what happens to nest year's season ticket sales, perhaps we should be selling away season tickets.
  16. Yes I know he was on the bench but he was stripped off and ready to come on, then went back in the dug out
  17. Totally agree. Why won't Shez play Lomax, he gets forward can defend and more often than not passes to a blue shirt. Why didn't he come on today was he ill or injured ?
  18. Leaving aside the boo boys I couldn't believe how many left the Chaddy End early yesterday. Any true supporter knows at 1-0 its game on, true supporters should support the team in defence as well as attack. Psychologically it must have affected the players defending that corner when half the crowd had given up on the game. Supporting the team should at least start with putting a 90 minute shift in, which is what we expect from the players
  19. Email to Mr Bashforth and the suggested circulation list Dear Mr Bashforth First I must say that any abuse directed to you, your colleagues, or your family is regrettable and needs to be dealt with by the authorities. Rest assured that the momentum for the fans protests is not from Alan Hardy, or Simon Corney, but from your council's constituents, who pay substantially increasing proportions of their income to live in this crumbling borough. We all have our own minds and personally myself, my family and most Latics fans are not prone to dash off to demonstrate on the streets at a whim. The proposals were one of the largest investment opportunities to be put to a council committee in the last 10 years. You cannot hide behind the "we are only laymen" stance to cover up the unpreparedness of some of your colleagues for the meeting. You all put yourselves forward at elections as citizens capable of taking the big decisions. This is the 3rd incident that I personally have had an interest in, the other 2 being on educational issues, where the council and their officers have been out of their depth. Unfortunately, the traffic problems around Broadway/Shaw Road End are exaggerated at the moment because of significant road works in Royton. These are making things much worse at the moment and are not representative of the normal traffic flows, you will not surprisingly have had complaints from Royton residents recently. We are in a situation where significant outside investment is being offered to the borough and you and your councillors are indeed demonstrating that the borough is run by amateurs, incapable of making properly considered decisions on the evidence presented. The events of the last week have also highlighted the embarrassment that many Oldhamers are feelling about living in a borough with no facilities to attract the outsider. This is a wider issue and you and your fellow councillors need to address this urgently. Lets not hide behind whatever form of political correctness is convenient, Oldham is a decaying embarrasment and yesterday's march was a cry for help to a floundering council,to help restore a project which would bring some pride back into Oldham. Please find a way to get the project back on track without delay, time is of the essence and as far as I am aware there isn't a queue of outside agencies waiting to invest £80m in the borough.
