  1. The U*d game was December 1974. And the Burnley game was January/February of the same year. I was at both. I was also at the Charlton match mentioned elsewhere in this thread. Great days. : )
  2. I was at the "George Davis" Test Match in 1975 (on the Saturday - I'm pretty certain that The Latics played Bristol Rovers at home)). I think that we probably need something similar to save us this time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Davis_(armed_robber)
  3. I recently met up with a Shrewsbury supporting friend in BKK. He lives in Phuket so I don't get to see him very often. However, I made sure that I gave him plenty of stick about tomorrows match. I expect to be e mailling him at about 11:00pm (local time) on Saturday. : )
  4. They'll love it : ) Just tell them that they should be watching Chonburi on Sunday.
  5. Strangely none of my numerous Australian friends and colleagues have replied to my e mails or answered my calls. : )
  6. There used to be a hairdressers in Lichfield called Anita Head (probably not her real name ; ) )
  7. I work with a bloke whose surname is Watt. His brother was called Tommy.
  8. As most Thai names are long and unpronouncable, even for Thais, everybody has a "nickname" by which they are more commonly known. A few years ago my school had four pupils named Oh, Aye, Eff and C. Somewhere I have a photograph of the five of us together.
  9. A couple of reasons. One of my former students, a decent footballer, is due to go to uni in Canada and is keen to get involved in playing for one of the local teams. And the second, I've recently been approached by someone who claims to have played in the MLS (?) and is interested in a coaching post in Thailand. He's been quite scathing in his appraisal of Thai players but I can't believe that the overall standard is that much higher in Canada.
  10. Thanks, CM. I'm interested in hearing about all levels. Local and the MLS. Any help/links would be greatly appreciated. However, I'd really like to hear peoples impressions of the games they've seen and any comments on the playing standards. Thanks again.
  11. I know that there are quite a few but do any of you watch your local leagues on a regular basis? If so, could you let me know what kind of standard exists over there. Or if anyone else has seen Canadian domestic football, I'd be happy to hear your views. Thanks
  12. Number 6 on the list but number 1 on mine : ) http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2009/...-six-late-goals
  13. Here's my list. "As a home fan" means I went with a fan, or fans, of the home team - see the entry for Derby ; ) "As an away fan" means I went with fans of the visiting club. 14. The girl at work who's from Oldham didn't even get it. Her answer was ..................... Bobby Ball !!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, yes, I probably have failed : ( But not as much as the Oldham education system.
  15. Veteran = Old Corny actor = Ham but possibly ATHLETIC Oldham Athletic : ) I remember us also being mentioned in an NME crossword way back in the late '70's. The clue was something like, "the Stones manager and home to a terrible second division northern football team". I put "Bolton" out of principle. It did mean that 5 down read "Butcasts" instead of "Outcasts" but I didn't care : )
  16. Six letters. It's a cryptic clue remember. And, I actually do know the answer. And so should you!!!!!
  17. I've just started the cryptic crossword in the Bangkok Post. Can anyone help me with 19 Across? "Veteran actor, corny, but possibly athletic". Thanks.
  18. As I won't be going to any games, home or away, next season, I can be a little more objective. One of my best mates is a Shrewsbury fan and my boss is a Gillingham fan so...........Come on you Shrews!!!!!
  19. I really enjoyed the first one. It was good to hear Latics issues being discussed. I usually have to join in with people talking about the Premier League. I'll listen to this when I get home from work tonight. Something to help get me through the day : )
  20. "Albion again hit the national headlines In 1985 when they lost in the third round of the F.A. Cup to Leicester City. A 6-1 defeat (including a hat-trick for Gary Lineker) was due in part to the fact that Albion goalkeeper, Paul Evans, was hit by a missile thrown from the crowd. After a Football Association review, the game was replayed behind closed doors at Highfield Road, Coventry with Albion losing 1-0." One of my claims to fame is that I was at that replayed match. I had a friend who worked for the Burton Mail at the time and he got me, and another mate (who'd been at the first game) in. It was a midweek afternoon kick off, if I remember rightly. The fact that it was played behind closed doors didn't really affect Burton as they were getting very small crowds in those days ; ) Wasn't the original tie played at the Baseball Ground?
  21. I doubt if Roy Mac will be the manager in August. At the moment I don't really care about next season. I'm just happy for the Albion and their fans today. The wife has just brought me a Marmite sandwich
  22. YES!!!! Just listening to it on Radio Derby. Great news. It's not exactly Marstons but I'm raising a glass of Chang to The Brewers :)
