  1. I remember the first time I came back to England with my wife. We resisted going out for a "Thai" meal, mainly because we'd be paying ten times what we'd pay at home, but were eventually persuaded to go by friends, on the condition that they'd pay. The other half wasn't particularly impressed by the food we'd been served so she ended up in the restaurant kitchen cooking her own. The owners conceded that they had to tone things down for local tastes. You can't beat the real thing.
  2. However good it is, I'm willing to bet that it's not as good as the real thing, Ackey.
  3. When Peter Reid had a brief spell as Thailand coach recently, I got to know him quite well. He used to rave about Alan Groves. He could also rattle off the entire Latics team from that period.
  4. Shame that you won't be here the following weekend, as the Thai Premier League season kicks off then. And FC Phuket (Division 2 South) are playing away this weekend. Have a good time. Oh, and be warned, it's just hit 96 degrees F! It's bloomin' hot!!!
  5. Does anybody else remember Gary getting "Shed"loads of stick from the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge in 83/84? They started to pick on him because of his ginger hair. As we were absolutely outclassed on the day, you had to laugh and Gary took it all in good humour. He even ended up getting a round of applause from them as he obliged with a wave after chants of, "Ginger, Ginger give us a wave."
  6. A mate of mine will be interviewing former Latics triallist, Keith Gumbs, later this week. If anyone has any questions that they would like him to ask Keith about his short time at Oldham, please can you PM me. Thanks.
  7. Fantastic win!! I'm celebrating with a can of Boddingtons.
  8. I still don't know why they've had to spend all that money on this site. Surely Shobnall Playing Fields would have been just as good. And it's closer to the town centre. ;) http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/ja...ton-on-trent-fa
  9. As it features two Thailand national team managers, I have to agree with you.
  10. Thanks. Lydon can kip in our spare room if he wants to save a few bob.
  11. I saw Buzzcocks in Bangkok a couple of weeks ago. They were brilliant. Any idea if PIL are heading out this way, Johnny?
  12. Thai footballers are made of much stronger stuff http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/sports/262...fired-at-suchao
  13. Do you mean Ronnie Blair? Thankfully, Maurice's goal did count
  14. Beer Chang. I'm attempting to stay awake in order to follow tonight's match. However, I feel that I won't be able to manage it! It's only 11:45pm and I'm already flagging!!!
  15. I've lived in Thailand for over 12 years and the only Oldham shirts I've seen have been worn by people I know. Surely, surely other Latics fans have visited the kingdom during this time.
  16. For me, 1973 and 1974 were the best years to be a Latics fan. A championship, a cracking team, big crowds, a cup run and it all culminated with a 1-0 win against M*n U*d in Decmber '74. I know that the late '80's and early '90's were fantastic times but, as an eleven year old at the time, 73/74 takes some beating!
  17. Wasn't that a great weekend. We beat Southport 6-0 at home on Friday, title rivals (and champions in their own minds) Bristol Rovers away on Saturday and Southport away on the Monday. Seems like yesterday. Just as a post script, we met Jack Charlton at a petrol station on the way to Southport on the Monday. He was driving three or four of his Middlesbro' players to their away game at Tranmere. Doubt you'd get that now.
  18. York away in April '74 was a memorable occasion. The draw meant that York were promoted along with us but the biggest cheer of the day came when the result from Old Trafford filtered through. : ) We didn't take quite as many to Cambridge in '84(?) but the joy of hearing that C*ty had lost to Luton was on a par.
  19. Any news on when the next podcast will be? I've really enjoyed listening to the previous ones. Thanks
  20. What was the attendance for the WBA promotion match in '77? '78? There must have been 20,000+ that day. Most of whom came from West Brom.
