  1. Does anyone know the attendance for the midweek FA Cup replay between Latics and Cambridge in January 1974? Or is able to point me in the direction of a website that might have the information? Thanks
  2. A friend of mine, who used to work for Bristol City, told me that the contract between the club and the company who run these websites insists on a minimum number of articles per day. Hence, the occasional pointless story.
  3. I was there too. However, Maurice's goal wasn't the best thing to happen that day. ;)
  4. I'm pretty sure that we were in Division Two in December 1974. In fact, that was the month a certain team came to town and were sent packing, courtesy of a Maurice Whittle penalty.
  5. The Futurama Festivals of the late 70's and early 80's were always enjoyable events. Leeds, Stafford and Deeside - if memory serves. I went to all three and never encountered any problems. Some great bands - in their embryonic stages - and a fantastic atmosphere.
  6. I thought it was strange that they chose to have the commentary from elsewhere but all the pre-match stuff from BP showed the club in a good light.
  7. Yes. Give me a call and I can supply the names and addresses of a few dozen people who can give you you a nice dry, warm bed and a roof over your head.
  8. Johnny Divers, sometime in the '40's or '50's. Depending on which legend you believe, he either lasted for about two minutes before getting injured and being carried off, never to be seen again. Or, fell down the steps on his way on to the pitch for his debut and was taken to hospital without even having kicked a ball!
  9. "You could have told me that when I had to get a taxi to the Iraq game!" What, and spoil your fun!!
  10. I've got a few mates who could put you up for a couple of nights.
  11. The dual pricing system in Thailand really annoys me. I have always refused to pay the "foreign" price for anything during the thirteen years I've been here. We don't have to pay different prices for petrol, or beer, or entry to the cinema so why should zoos, museums, tuk-tuks and taxis be any different? I wouldn't mind if it was means tested, there are a lot of very poor Thais but there are also a lot of very rich ones. It's racism, pure and simple. And they don't try and hide it. I get quite irrate when certain places try and charge me more simply because I'm a "Westerner". I usually find a few choice words in Thai does the trick. ;) It also helps that I can read the script, when the local prices are only displayed in Thai. I guess it's no different to anywhere else but this is something you should be aware of if you plan to visit. But don't let it put you off. My father in law is a taxi driver in Bangkok and he doesn't rip off anyone.
  12. Ashes Lane Campsite, between Kendal and Staveley, if it's still there. Perfectly situated if you want a night out in Kendal or the solitude of the Lake District. I'd also recommend the Eagle and Child pub in Staveley. I used to live in Kendal and have many happy memories of the town.
  13. Thailand is still one of the safest places on earth to visit. The Thais will welcome you with open arms. You'll be perfectly safe here as long as you don't walk around Udon Thani and Chiang Mai in "I Love The Democrats" t-shirts. There is still a threat of trouble but no more so than anywhere else in the world. Please don't be put off by any negative publicity. It is highly unlikely that tourists will get caught up in any political unrest. The football season is also in full swing so, if you visit between now and October, you're guaranteed of catching a few games. I'd also recommend trips to Cambodia and Singapore. Two countries that are extremely different but well worth visiting. Laos too should be on your list.
  14. Would you be interested in working overseas?
  15. Niall Quinn for Arsenal in the League Cup tie. 95% of the visiting fans had already left and the the goal was met by total indifference and a deafening silence. Hilarious.
  16. You won't have any problems getting a beer. However, you might have to drink it from a plastic bag through a straw. Just ask Ackey or Lincoln Blue.
  17. I know it's a long way off but does anyone think they might be heading out to Thailand next June? And will the Ernie Flag be making the trip? http://www.thefa.com/England/News/2010/Thailand_100510
  18. Mine's not that interesting but, here goes.... Paternal grandad (deceased) : Latics Maternal grandad (deceased) : Latics Mum : Latics Dad : Latics Me : Latics (and Chonburi) Wife : Chonburi I also have an uncle who claims to be a Un*ted fan but has been to BP hundreds more times than he's been to O*d Tr*fford.
  19. I have a couple of rather large music/audio files that I'd like to edit. Can anyone recommend an easy to use file editor that I can download. Thanks
  20. I'm still in a state of euphoria after seeing Buzzcocks in Bangkok last November! There was a thirty year gap between that gig and the last time I saw them but they were still brilliant. And it was quite an experience pogoing in a crowd of 45 - 55 year old ex-pat Punks.
  21. I could murder a decent plate of English fish & chips right now!!
