Having watched Davies last season and on Saturday I think the attitude he seems to give off is something that he can't help, it is just the way he is. I think it is unfair to compare him to Lee Hughes or Lewis Alessandra as they are quite comfortable receiving the ball at their feet with back to goal, sticking their backsides into the defender and protecting the ball. (A certain ex Man Utd striker, now Man City manager perfected that style) Davies on the other hand would benefit from receiving balls down the channels and using his undoubted pace to leave defenders standing. Having said all this Sheridan was quite right to substitute both strikers on Saturday as they were getting no change out of the Millwall defence.

All the above discussion is why I do not attend pre season matches anymore. You see Latics thrashing teams and automatically think we will walk the league, or we get stuffed and it's all doom, gloom and relegation talk. Players in pre season will not give that extra yard all the time for fear of injury and missing out of the first eleven when the season begins. It is all about fitness and experimenting with different tactics/players for different match situations. Sheridan must know his team/formation for Saturday(barring injuries). Lets wait and see what happens v Millwall. I for one am still confident that he will get it right come a REAL match situation.

If we do sign him lets hope he is not away on International Duty every other week like Rodney Jack was.

IMO the key to next seasons success will be the spine of the team and in those positions we have our experienced players, Crossley, Hazell, Gregan, Allott & Hughes. With the younger players like Taylor, Eardley, Smalley & Alessandra having gained experience over the last two seasons in addition to the new signings we should be looking at a successful season.

Last season I was in Spain when the Huddersfield cup tickets went on sale for ST holders and I e-mailed them from the hotel and Judith said that she would hold them for me until I returned. It is called good customer service and can only be applauded. Can't see that happening at the bigger clubs

Well done Diego, I have enjoyed every day of your journal. The wife has been in hospital for the whole tournament so with visiting I have missed every live game but with highlights and your daily dose of fun I don't feel that I have missed too much. Thanks again
