  1. From speaking to a couple of Peterborough fans, they seem to think it's nailed on that Steve Evans will be their manager next season. They laughed at the suggestion Holden might be in the running. This sounds like the sort of story that might have been fed to the press by Dean's agent to pressure Latics in to a quick decision.
  2. Yes, I thought that too. He seemed fairly downhearted and a bit tetchy in some of his responses to questions.
  3. Good luck. And don't forget to take your 100 day plan with you!
  4. Good luck. And don't forget to take your 100 day plan with you!
  5. The Warburton story does sound a bit far fetched to me, but a change in ownership in the summer has to be a possibility. From what I've been told, the primary role of the new Director (Anthony Gee) is basically to find a suitable buyer for the club. Given that's he's been here since November it seems reasonable to think that he might have made some progress in bringing a potential buyer to the table.
  6. His work rate seems to suffer when things aren't going for him. Or may be he's not too bothered now that his summer move to Barnsley is getting sorted (according to today's sun).
  7. That's a question Holden will probably be asking him if he gets the boot when a new man arrives, having being persuaded to take a pay cut and end his playing carrer by LJ !. I was told by a Barnsley fan that LJ was only allowed to bring one person with him as they didn't want to get rid of the guy who was their caretaker manager or the guy who was assisting him. He must have thought Tommy was more influential.
  8. I happened to be driving through the area when Johnson and the Barnsley CEO (Mansford) were doing a phone in on Radio Sheffield one night last week. When asked why he chose to leave Oldham to come to Barnsley his initial anwser was quite surprising. Before going on to the usual bigger club, bigger budget stuff, he said something along the lines of 'you have to remember that Oldham accepted a financial offer for me and without that it wouldn't have been possible for me to be here'. May be it was a case of him thinking that if we weren't going to put up a fight to keep him and reject their approach out of hand, like Swindon did, he may as well go. There were faew other intersting things on that show. When a caller askted Mansford if Johnson was the first choice for the job, he side stepped the question in a way that made it very cear that he wasn't. He was also pretty frank about saying that if they don't go up this year, Johnson will be expected to deliver promotion next year. In general, Johnson didn't come across as particularly confident or upbeat in comparison to the interviews he did when he was with us. I think he realises that, if they don't go up this year and he has a bad start to next season he'll be under serious pressure. Consecutive 4-0 and 7-0 defeats won't be met with the kind of tolerance and patience he enjoyed here.
  9. Johnson was a bit cryptic in his post match interview. "I had two fantastic years here at Oldham and people don't know the full story about me leaving," Wonder what he's refering to?
  10. Matt Chambers says there could be another one in today.
  11. Holden being allowed to bring loan players in according to MEN. Sounds like he could be in charge until end of season.
  12. When I first starting watching Latics I remember Ron Futcher being able to look after himself pretty well. I'm sure I remember him breaking someone's jaw in an off the ball incident. His Wikipedia entry seems to back up my memory of him - "a gentleman off the pitch, he was a 'psychopath' on the field".
  13. I know Corney said that he'd speaking to Dowie this weekend at a charity do when he was on Radio Manchester, but I've just watched Deano's Yeovil preview Latics player interview. About half way through he mentions that Corney had travelled back from Port Vale on the team bus but had now gone back to New York. So we might have to wait a while longer for developments on the manager front.
  14. Interesting thought that FFP is now such a big issue for both the Johnsons. I remember when he arrived he talked a lot about how by identifying talent well (moneyball theory etc) and with good coaching he could negate the advantage that bigger clubs had under FFP. And he kept quoting the example of how his Dad got Yeovil up on the lowest budget in the division. Now, all of a sudden FFP is an insurmountable problem for both of them.
  15. Don't think the Barnsley fans will buy in to his Twitter patter. He'll need results. Some of them are already calling him Joe Pasquale.
  16. May be, rather than being a case of Corney having no choice in the matter, he actually decided he'd rather have £75k (or £200k depending on who you believe) in the bank than LJ as his manager. A friend of mine who works at another local club told me he'd heard on the grapevine that their relationship had deteriorated over the past 3 to 4 months and that LJ's agent was letting people in the game know he'd be interested in discussing any other opportunities that might arise. Of course, this might not be true. It certainly appearred to me that Corney was still backing LJ strongly in the January transfer window. But it might make interesting reading when Corney gives his version of events.
  17. He was doing the same course as LJ - apparently that's how they met and became friends.
  18. It will be interesting to hear Corney's version of events. Johnson has played with a straight bat and talked of a respectful, amicable parting of ways. While Corney can be diplomatic, he tends to be more candid when he feels aggrieved about something, so his reaction will be interesting.
  19. Mike keegan and talk sport both reporting we will try to persuade Scholes to take the job
  20. All depends how it has come about. If he has pushed for the move I'd be dissapointed in him.But if Corney has agreed compensation and told him to go and have a chat with them, I don't blame him for going, as it really demonstrates a lack of belief in him. This seemed to be what he was hinting at last week in his interview.
  21. Unless the deal is already signed, just not announced yet.
  22. Expect Philliskirk until end of season. Barnsley fans seem to think TW and DHL are going with him.
  23. Barnsley fanzine has tweeted that it's a done deal. Surprised if Tommy is going with him. Would have thought he was nailed on to be his replacement here.
  24. According to the Chron the club issued another "No comment" in response to a question about the LJ/Barnsley situation this morning. They've had plenty of time to ring New York and check what Corney wants them to say since the story broke last week, so the obvious conclusion is that he's probably a serious candidate for the job.
