  1. Thought we were much more solid tonight. They had plenty of possession but I can only remember them creating one clear cut chance. We sat back a bit too much in the last half hour but created a few good chances. Palmer should have scored early on and Rhys Murphy fluffed a great chance with a heavy first touch.
  2. Bloke sat near me at the game reckons we're getting another centre half in on loan from Rotherham. I think he said he was called Wood.
  3. Whether he was first choice or not it looks like a good appointment to me. Loads of experience and good at sorting a defence out. We could really benefit from him instilling the tough, uncompromising attitude he displayed as a defender in to our back four.
  4. True. Deals seem to be lined up early in the week then signed and announced towards the end of the week. I guess it saves us a few days wages!
  5. I think many people take on a different persona when you put them in front of a camera.Dunn comes across as arrogant and dismissive, where as when I've met him he's been anything but that. A bit like Nigel Pearson. He comes across as defensive and awkward in interviews but everyone at Leicester said that away from the camera he was very relaxed and always cracking jokes. Obviously doesn't change the fact he wasn't up to the job!
  6. I was no fan of his but it's clear the hierarchy were not 100% committed to him. Difficult circumstances and i don't think he's overstepped the mark on twitter. ... yet, he's still in full flow.
  7. Not suggesting it's something I'd want to see but, as his former assistant and close friend, Shez may be considering it.
  8. What about taking Tommy Wright off the dwarf? He was Shez's assistant here last time.
  9. Given Newport are saying they've had no approach, I wonder if we will get done for tapping him up in light of that photo?
  10. When I was in his Dad's cab he said Macclesfield were holding out for a good share of the fee, to terminate the loan.
  11. Futcher was in the team when I first started watching Latics as a 7 year old. The thing I remember about him was his goals and his short fuse. I have a vague recollection of an opposition player trying to sue him for breaking his jaw.
  12. Burnley local rag saying they are confident of getting him because Tarky is very keen to come back up north. One firm bid rejected but expected to go back with £3m plus add ons. It says that will probably be enough to open serious negotiations but they'll have to pay more than that to get him.
  13. According to his Dad the fee they are looking for to sell Dennis is £35k to £40k. So about half the Philliskirk money. Depends on how committed Corney is to staying up I guess.
  14. Just received this by email: Good morning, Please note that the networking event planned for this evening has unfortunately had to be postponed. We will advise of a new date as soon as possible. Sincere apologies that this is such short notice." Given that Dunn was the star (and only) attraction, it seems the cancellation could be due to his non attendance.
  15. It was actually more entertaining today than it has been for a while. Going forward we were much more positive, moving the ball quicker and more decisively. Unfortunately the defensive mistakes were just as bad as usual.
  16. That's a really good analogy to describe the post Blitz years.
  17. The squad certainly does need trimming but the problem is, at this time of year, you can only really get rid of your better players that other clubs want - and that's what is happening. I think Corney's intentions will become clear in the next couple of weeks. He's clearly not ready to back Dunn now. Will he back him next week? Will he sack him and back someone else? Will he continue the fire sale and not back anyone, accepting relegation as the inevitable result? I think we'll find out soon.
  18. Probably had a choice: Wait to see if Dunn survives until next week and take a 6 month deal from Latics if he does.In all likelihood a new manager would want a different player in that position. Or take an 18 month deal that's on the table from Shrewsbury now. Shrewsbury will have other targets too and may have told him to sign now or they'd move on to the next man in line. I know what I'd do in his position.
  19. Seems like Yeates has gone for financial security. We were talking to him about a deal to the end of the season. Blackpool have given him 18 months plus an option for another year. Can't blame him really.
  20. I posted a few days ago that Dunn was very confident of keeping the job until end of season (on the basis we are skint and he's currently working unpaid), but maybe he's not out of the woods yet. He's brought 2 in on loan for 25 days but can't bring anyone else in until next week. May be Saturday is make or break for him?
  21. I take your point (and yes he does volunteer in the ticket office and posts on here occasionally) but of the 3, that comes from the most reliable source. It's not his fault the stand has been delayed. No doubt he finds it very stressful not being able to make his payments to his suppliers because he hasn't been paid. Would he want go through that again?
  22. I've heard a few stories that something is going on re a takeover but I've been hearing them for several months without anything happening. I've also been told that that Corney and Blitz (all my sources agree he's still in control) are in it for the long haul and are planning to knock down and rebuild the main stand next summer. I've also been told the guy who built the north stand has turned down the opportunity to do the main stand because of the problems he's had getting the money off them for the North Stand. Who knows what to believe?
  23. This is what I was told last week. However, it was also mentioned that it was felt that he was getting hacked off with the job and there were concerns he may resign himself if results don't improve. That could be the reason for any meetings/planning taking place. He did sound like a man who'd had enough yesterday evening.
  24. Was told yesterday that Dunn is very confident of keeping his job because of the dire financial situation. His job does come with a salary but he has volunteered to go without payment to help the club's finances, and hasn't been paid since he started the job. However, were he to be sacked, his full salary would become payable immediately.
  25. I agree that we should be interested China. Our lack of interest is not a judgment on the player's ability, but due to the fact that a transfer fee is required and we're skint.
