Royle had a bleeding mountain to climb!!
It was a gamble that didn't pay off. He's even more of a legend for that in my eyes because he loved the club enough to try and get them out of this league.
Damien Comolli at spurs/ Avram Grant at chelski / Dennis Wise at newcastle are the only directors of football I can think of off the top of my head but their tenures all ultimately ended in arguments over authority and/or failure. Can anyone think of a director of football appointment that hasn't failed miserably??
Surely it would be best to assume some income from cups and outgoing transfers (as they invariably contribute at least something to the coffers) in order to secure the best players you can in pre season? Why under commit yourself and risk throwing away a chance at promotion?
eards - had a great game on saturday, some quality attacking play.
lee - some clever touches and forward play, would like to see more of him in the 1st 11.
maher - no attacking threat what so ever.
Frizzell 54 needs to get real. Top ten for the last 2 seasons and hopefully this season, and finally showing some commitment on the pitch. A defensive mix up and referee cost us today. There is plenty to be positive about.
