  1. I'd love either Arsenal or Newcastle away but if it's going to be a team outside the prem then Preston wouldn't be too bad with them being local hopefully reduced prices would get a decent turnout either home or away
  2. Has to be Stam for me, i thought he was fantastic yesterday, never game up on anything and was 100% commited in every challenge. I also thought Smalley did well, he doesn't seem the most confident of players to me and i was worried that it would get to him but he was fantastic and wasn't afraid to run at them, he's going to be a fantastic player should he carry on progressing. It was a fantastic performance by every single one of them and Allott again had an excellent game in midfield
  3. He my man of the match on tuesday too, for that last few games in fact, but he can't play the same game as KK. Should we get two decent wingers playing then Allot and Macca can both do a good job in the centre they just not creative midfielders like KK and Wellens were. Or when Lids is back play a midfield 3 with him just behind the front two
  4. I would prefer Bertrand back as well but it would make more sense for him and Chelsea if he went to a Championship club if the interest from them that has reported is true.
  5. I would say Lomax at leftback with Black on the bench. He's not at Rochdale anymore
  6. I've heard off two normally very reliable sources that he has definately gone as well. Presumably to Doncaster
  7. It was Spurs that hammered us, about 6-1 wasn't it? i remember watching it in a bar on holiday with a load of cockneys
  8. He will forever be remembered for that one penalty - and what a great thing to be remembered for! A legend forever at BP (he had very sexy legs too ) Got the legends tshirt last week - fantastic!
  9. 2-2 McDonald to get the first and Smalley to get his first goal in the last few mins to get a replay I know Crossley is out but i hear Taylor and Hughes should be ok so things are looking up
  10. Wasn't he only 15/16 years old for that game. He was excellent
  11. He was a good player but not the best of managers but that wasn't helped by him being forced to get rid of our best players and not having much to bring in new players
  12. They appointed Shez because people were not buying season tickets because they wanted Moore sacked and Sheridan in. Where are they now? They wanted Shez and then they stop coming because we don't get instant success. Shez is still learning and doing an ok job of it. We should stick with him, our whole club needs to be settled. We keep changing managers and squads almost every season and that is what we need to stop in my opinion. We need a management team who want to be here - which it seems we have got now and we need a squad of decent players who want to play for the club and for each other, when we have that then success should follow. We have some decent players and some good young prospects but we need some experience because as soon as things don't go our way then there heads drop. If look at the teams we had under Royle and then Dowie we had players who would play their hearts out for the team, they weren't world beaters they just never gave up and when things were going against them they didn't start arguing on the pitch and they didn't let there heads drop they stuck together and worked through it. That is what we need. We are a small local club and we need to get the town interested in the club again, unnforunately the cost puts lots of people off, which is understandable and it's also understandable that TTA put the prices up as they want to get some money back into the club. We need to stick with Shez and give him time. I personally do not see us getting promotion this season unless we make some exceptional signings this month
  13. Everton won't be as physical and in your face as Wolves and i think Wolfy might do ok against then, i think he has a lot of potentional. I can see us playing 4-5-1 though with either Thompson playing DM or maybe Smalley on the left and Wolfy on the right with JP, Allott and Macca in the middle. I like what i've seen Chalmers and Black too, i would expect them both to be trying to get in the match day squads next season
  14. crosseley 6 couldnt have done anything about any of the goals eardley 5 - not his best game but i think he's being made a bit of a scapegoat stam 5 - not at his best trotman 5 - made a few mistakes, including coming rushing out for their 2nd goal - can do no wrong for some people tho bertrand 6 - one of our better players today. will be missed if he goes back allot 6 - another of our better players today macdonald 6 - another decent game, he was making run after run but no-body was picking him out except once when he headed over kilkenny 5 - poor again today taylor - another poor game, one half decent cross all game davies 5 - another poor game, hughes 5 - poor again, missed our best chance but again he can do no wrong for some people Smalley - 6 nothing special but gave us some shape at least with 2 wide players on Wolfy 6 - didnt have much time to do anything Shez needs to get their heads up, they look like a defeated team form the word go. They don't seem to be playing for each other, under Dowie they all played for each other and looked like they wanted to play for the club and never gave up. It was the same under Royle, we didnt have any world beaters but we had players who would give 110% for each other and for the club but at the moment they don't really seem that bothered. We need to get a squad with players with passion who will stick together through thick and thin and we need to keep the squad together for more than one season which hasn't happened that last few years
  15. Shez wants a target man, which i agree with, it gives us another option. More importantly we need a winger, someone who can put decent balls into the box consistantly well - neither Davies or Taylor can do this, pace alone does not make you a winger - especially if Shez gets a striker who's decent in the air. Smalley out on loan? if we manage to bring in someone better and if we get a 24hr recall clause in his loan contract
  16. If he gets given the ball halfway in his own half and has no-one in front of him up the line what else is he supposed to do? He couldnt pass it inside as Allott/KK werent in enough space, there was no-one down the line, Trotman wasn't dropping back and when he did and Eards played it to him all he did was hoof it up so all Eardley could do was try to beat the 2 forest players in front of him - which he did a few times successfully - or hit it in the corner for Davies to run on to or try to switch it to Taylor or try to hit Hughes. You can not play with a midfield 4 consisting of a left winger and 3 central midfielders and no-one on the right, it doesn't work, the balance isnt there and yesterday it made Eardleys job almost impossible
  17. You can't blame Eardley for not having his best game today he had no-one playing in front of him. There was acres of space out on the right for virtually all the game and no-one was in it. We had 3 central midfielders and taylor on the left. Davies did drift out wide sometimes but only on the edge of the area which left us short in the middle alongside Hughes and left a hugh gap infront of Eardley. Smalley should have been brought on in my opinion
  18. Andy Liddell, one of most technically gifted players and a fantastic role model for our younger players who should all be looking up to him. He can control the ball in an instant, will whip fantastic balls into the box given the chance - if Lids plays later in the season now Hughes is getting into form then Hughes will thrive on Lids crosses and through balls. What Lids can't do is turn on the pace to get past his man and that is why he will never be appreciated by many latics fans. If you look at the 'fans favourites' over the last couple of seasons, Warne, Davies, Taylor etc all of them never stop running which endears them to fans but players like Lids, Porter, Wellens (player who without we wouldnt have got anywhere near the playoffs last season in my opinion) are the ones that people like the have a go at. But thats football i suppose, everyone see's things differently and has different opinions Lids can't play like he did at Wigan because he's lost the bit of pace he had and if he could he wouldnt be playing for a team in league one Should he walk back into the team if there on a good run? no of course he shouldn't, no-one should, sit him on the bench and he will earn back his place. If we get a right winger who is better than Lids then i think he can do a good job coming on off the bench behind the front two if we need an attacking option, but at the moment i don't see where we have a better option on the right. Smalley i like but i think he is better playing as a striker, Allot i've been impressed with but in the centre and Taylor i like too but don't think he is a better option than Lids and besides that leaves us with no-one on the left then Whats nice is we have different options and players who can come in and do a decent enough job when we have injuries
  19. I would love to see tomasz cwyka, i thought he was an excellent prospect while he was here last time but he didn't really get a chance then. If not him i always rated Spicer when he was at Bournemouth, although he hasn't really done it at Burnley perhaps a loan back to league one would do him the world of good to get his confidence up. Though to be honest i really can't see Kilkenny playing for Birmmingham so he may well be here until the end of the season. 'Doing a Gregan' is a little harsh, yes he went through a bad patch but he was back to playing well before he got injured. Doing a Reeves would be more appropriate, he was excellent when he was on loan from Chesterfield then as soon as he signed permanently he was a completely different player
  20. I spent an months last season trying to get that through to the guy who sits in front of me!
  21. Definately Porter. He was a natural goalscorer which is something we haven't had in years. Every team needs one but unnfortunately at this level they are difficult to keep hold of. I don't think Davies will ever be a natural goal scorer but he does cause the opposition all sorts of problems with his pace. If Shez can get through to him that he needs to get his head up more and he can improve his passing/crossing then he will be able to make that step up to the championship
  22. People have been saying Smalley should be playing instead of Liddell for a while and now he starts a game and all he gets is abuse, its pathetic. Yesterday was not his best performance (tho i think he plays better as a striker than as a winger anyway, despite his insistance on keep missing sitters at the moment!!) but it was one of his first start in a league game, coming into a struggling team - it was never going to be easy. Those people who booed him as he was walking off should be banned from Boundary Park, he's a young lad who is still learning his trade, give him a break I did think Sheridans substition were a little strange to say the least. He brought on 2 defensive midfield players for an attacking midfielder and then for a striker when i thought we should have been going all out to get a 2nd goal. BB80 how you can think macca was our worst player is beyond me, he was one of our better performers today
  23. It was originally supposed to be 8 but the local residents wanted it reducing to 3 and TTA agreed in talks with local residents that they would reduce it to 6, obviously nobody bothered to tell Linda Brooks this or she chose to ignore it
