  1. Yes he does. Most of the things I was worried about have been addressed or at least partially addressed by Penney: Lack of shots/ goals Link-up between midfield and attack passing the ball to feet defence hitting the front men at the right time all round effort and belief Not a bad performance at all from Latics yesterday. Diego says we were even better at Swindon. Get off Penney's back and make BP feel like a 'home' venue for Latics. I have to say I cringed the, "You don't know what you're doing" chant came out. Everyone was up and cheering when we scored a few minutes later though.
  2. A pattern of play! Hope Penney does well Penney addresses Latics' issues
  3. As my brother described it... A career saving lunge Brill is a different keeper these days. Fair play to him.
  4. I hope he doesn't start every season as slowly as this
  5. Thanks for fighting my "corner" - sorry 'Chadbarmy' , while I was at the match watching us battle for a 1-0 win! At Prenton Park, some clowns were shouting, "Penney out!" after 10 minutes at 0-0 now surely that is detrimental to our future!! Its no time to panic. Most people have realised what I am saying and that I'll be there watching us in even a 3-sided ground if needs be - oh wait a minute!! Just don't put me down as a doom and gloom monger, there are too many on this site anyway...
  6. There is a fair way to go yet anyway and as you say, investment may well come from local businesses. I would imagine moreso with its proximaty to Mcr. It certainly not all doom and gloom, I don't mean 2 corners or stay at BP, I say we have to move but 2 corners would be fantastic and 4 is the icing on the cake. We have to be realistic, I realise that. Having seen the plan its a no-brainer. Nice to have a chat Leeslover!
  7. What I'm getting at LL is... I will be going to Failsworth come what may, it will mean me re-arranging my Saturday/ Tuesdays but that is fine by me as I'm a Latics Fan - but to attract Failsworth people and waiverers that are already waivering when they go to BP from Shaw, Rochdale, Moorside etc need to be persuaded to travel the extra distance and re-arrange their days. The so called "phase two" version would, in my opinion, provide the incentive. Some people aren't prepared to make the effort unfortunately. Its sad but its a fact of life Lees.
  8. As far as I am concerned, the PR woman said point-blank that phase two is worst case scenario. I spoke and listened to Ian Hill - who is a very honest and down-to-earth fan. We left the Sponsor's Box buzzing with excitement at a 2 cornered stadium, with cinema, restautants, concourses with plasma TV's, bars for families etc. Somewhere to arrive - possible by tram at 11.00 to watch the live match on Sky with a beer and some lunch. Maybe I was taken in by the whole thing but that was how it came across. When I read this board - I thought, "No, Lags has got it wrong" and I hoped he had. It will probably be a 4 stand stadium - the problem I have is - we didn't see that scheme at the consultation. I'mnot moaning I'm expressing my views Jim. Maybe I heard what I wanted to hear but I saw what I saw, a 2 cornered stadium that looked like the business. No sign of a 4-stand version... Do you see why I feel hood-winked now?
  9. Give these people something to attract them - preferably successful football and Phase Two for example and their curiosity may just get the better of them and hey presto. You have to remember this is real football and not powder-puff, premadonna Premiership Stuff. It is quite a different product.
  10. A bit harsh. Its not for the want of honest endeavour or investment is it? They only thing thing the TTA could be guilty of is, "Right intention wrong direction"
  11. 100% agree Chadbarmy, I feel hood-winked. Was very excited as I was told that the 2 cornered stadium was, "The worst case scenario." We have a chance to negotiate a metro-stop as GMPTE want to site a generator on our plot at failsworth, so there was room for a deal there too. I feel cheap and dirty - off for a shower...
  12. Sadly, I agree Midsblue. He was our prize asset and we let him walk away...
  13. How about Doncaster, Rotherham and Bradford LL? Just a thought... But I agree that Oldham is certainly not a town to be proud of currently. Not surprising when you see the calibre of our Councillors. Maybe they compare us to the worst towns in the UK, then sit back, then settle for Oldham being slightly better or on par (no Beal Valley pun intended). The whole hierarchy must be shaken up and soon.
  14. +1 40 years supporter. Has the 4500-5000 hard core support been taken for granted here? Is the attitude, "These muppets have no life and will turn up to watch any old dross because they live for the match?" The match day experience... We can't go on cutting costs from stadium repairs (eg pa system in The Chaddy, scoreboard, toilets in The Chaddy) to cheaper pies with more expensive selling prices and a half time draw that costs a quid so we can have the chance to win £200! - That is a microcosm of the problems at the club in many ways. Oh and don't forget a team of mis-fits and reserve team players from our rivals and League Two. Dave Penney was brough in because he had a reputation for success on a budget but the team needs some consistent quality so we can carry the likes of Keegan Parker, Dean Smalley etc who have one good have an hour per month. Don't get me started on the club shop... The only thing about the club that improves/ holds its head above water is the programme. Credit where its due Gordon. So when Barry Owen comes on here like an overlord from a Sci-Fi comic pushing the likes of me around then HE needs to get real not me. Barry, you are one of us, I saw you at the council meetings. Yes I was there offering my support and I was on the 'march' - support when it was needed. How many fans would we see if this came around again? I dont think there would be as many - who or what has alienated these people? As Trust Rep on the board it is you job to know, but when you get the answers you castigate the very people from which you came. Not many businesses are offered free advise from it's stakeholders so you better not ignore it! If the Owner in question would like his ego massaged on here then YES I would like to see you guys stay on - again, credit where its due, you saved the club and continue to due so from your own pockets - I will be grateful for ever, but don't cure the cancer but kill the club with the chemo - not pleasant but it's the best I could come up with!. But please don't lose the support you still have by blatently going against public opinion with crucial, long term decisions. People both in the heart of Oldham and in Failsworth are genuinely worried about their club and their homes. Failsworth is Oldham but its not Latics Country. We as a club are in a precarious position, of course, but ideas from the real fans aren't always that wide of the mark - obviously finances are the key but that is information most are not privvy to. We have to stay in the immediate area for our long term security if we must move in the first place. Yes BP is old and knackered but sell/ develop the land we need to, so we can generate revenue streams to build a Main Stand here at BP and maintain the rest of the stadium. I may be living in Fairyland but has this been considered? Oldham Athletic must not fall into a possible honey trap set by Oldham MBC. They have their own motives and if OAFC was to die after the Failsworth move the chances are there will be two sites developed for very little investment from OMBC. Is the ex OAFC site in Failsworth the REAL candidate for a cinema and bowling alley? AND The rugby might get its own stadium too! Sorry for my rant but that would have cost me £1000's in therapy...
  15. Nah m8, they are just messing with our minds again...
  16. Lee Hughes on Radio Manchester last night. Just to paraphrase what he said: I enjoyed my time at Latics and still look for their results. They should be doing better than they are at the moment - I don't know what's happening there really. I'm sure with the players they have they will improve. I still keep in touch with lots of the players - Rubes, Taylor (some more who I can't remember! - Thats me not Hughesy). Oldham got rid of me so there was nothing I could do but I have a lot of time for the club and the fans (who were always great to me) because they gave me the chance to rebuilt my career. I think he'd come back tomorrow.
  17. Sorry, I went on a bit didn't I? Not at all mate, thanks for the heads up. Will have a listen.
  18. Never really listened to Magnetic Fields MrShankly, name an album for me to listen to first. I'm always up for new (to me) bands.. Cheers
