  1. No. But I could see a fit version playing full games being a 1:5 player at this level and creating other opportunities based on tonight.
  2. Great hard working , hard won performance against a pretty good side. Missed a couple of good chances too - Clarke nearly extended his gap at the top of the goal scoring table and Ginger Prince was very close. Great goal from banks and he and everyone else did a good jo of chasing lost causes tonight and putting hem under pressure. Felt more comfortable than the Coventry game at the end. Ngoo - best performance yet and genuinely had a good impact. Erwin did OK as a target man - and thought he matched AH recent performances....but but but, twice he missed the opportunity to lay across an early ball into the box to create a great goal scoring opportunity.
  3. I am more than happy to eat my words tonight. Genuinely looked like he would be useful tonight and really caused problems. Cult hero in the making. Ngoooooooooo!!!!
  4. The choreographed celebration is something that I don't recall Latics doing often / if at all. Or else I don't pay attention and focus on the celebration in the crowd. Some good ones mentioned already: Robbie Simpsons Anfield run. Sean McCarthy somersault. Eyresy walking stick - was that Derby away? Kuqi last minute winner against Sheffield United away. Other than that - Rick Holden's rib tickler celebration after a very deflected goal in the 2nd Division Championship season.
  5. I always thought Tarky was a good and classy defender, but he seemed to lack the pace required to really make it. Pleased for him that he is going well - picks up the odd point for my Fantasy Football team :-)
  6. 2 options. Pie and peas at £25 3 course poise coffee and chocolates £50 Paid the latter, better not be pie and peas!
  7. What time do you have to arrive for the pre-match meal etc on a week night? Valentines treat for Mrs Scapegoat
  8. 31 in 90ish. 1 in 3. Bloody hell, we had higher standards in those days. Remember not being that impressed with him at the time. I'd crawl across broken glass with my fly unzipped for that sort of record now...
  9. Did he not also finish well for the second against Peterborough at home? Two of the more clinical and genuine striker-esque goals of the season. Seems a decent enough player - not perfect, but seems OK in the current set up.
  10. There have been a number of forwards at Latics I felt were just not good enough but seemingly went elsewhere and did OK. Stuart "Jigsaw" Barlow was one example. Never that much good with us, but went on to bag a hatful at Wigan if I recall. Lapado is likely to be added to that list. Vice versa - I think Doncaster fans thought the same of Curtis Main when they let him go last season. Scored the goals to keep a relegation rival up.
  11. I think that there is a difference between debating the merits or lack of, on a forum / with your mates in the pub or in your seat at the game - no matter how little time you have seen of a player... And Screaming abuse during the game at levels that are audible to the players. The former is always OK in my mind. Very quickly into the Chesterfield game my Dad and I commented early on that O'Neill looked like a good player - some nice close control, picked a few good early passes, always looked hungry for the ball and found himself space. Similarly we commented that Taylor looked OK, but not really at the pace we recall him having previously. On that same basis, nothing from Ngoo so far in the substitute appearances has done anything to make me think he is a bit of a cumbersome and clumsy player. Fans opinions will change overtime - some get better, some fall into the flatter to deceive camp and fail to live up to the early optimism. This type of discussion and difference of opinions are what make talking football good fun. Balling abuse at the game....never right in my opinion. Think I got close with Phil Starbuck away at a Wigan at the old knackered stadium (feel angry about him even now).
  12. O'Neill. Looks like he has bundles of ability, and not to shabby in the pace department either. Some lovely bursts of speed from midfield which we generally lack. Shades of Nick Henry about him. Clarke consistently good - attacking CB, and good distribution.
  13. Correct - or at least that is my interpretation. A name that can be applied to another chant stolen from somewhere else - that's what we do isn't it?
  14. There are a number of times this season that away fans have been consigned to the back of the chaddy.
  15. The Roger Palmer chant being used as a (not so) subtle form of racism is one of the most embarrassing times I have following Latics. What must our all time leading scorer think? As for the Ngoo chant being used racially - not sure at the moment. There are a number of chants that create that type of long "oooh" sound across a range of sports, and Ngoo's name fits perfectly with that trend. It's used when he comes on, not an unreasonable time to chant a players name. We have other black players that are not subject to anti-racial chanting (as far as I can tell) And genuinely (as this thread has proven) there are plenty that seem to appreciate what he brings to the team and has adopted a very early cult following (The chants of "Ernie" when Cooksey first arrived spring to mind). So, think the whole Ngoo chant is racist is perhaps a bit of a jump.
  16. Not played with a recognised striker for most of the season ;-) As for some of the posts that are critical of supporters vocalising their views when they are critical of players or tactics - not sure what to make of it. Supporters have views on the game they pay to watch, and for me it's perfectly reasonable to voice concerns on a forum, and even talking to friends at the game. We are a team that is struggling, and therefore circumstances mean that is likely that there will be things that fans don't like. I would never boo or barrack a player on the pitch - occasionally I might let out a groan or shout out in frustration in the moment - but I will raise my opinion on here, hopefully in what will be a debate about various merits of point of view. Yesterday's 3-2 was exciting and nervous, if not high quality for thtime most part. It was more entertaining than a lot of this season and for that I am very happy. But there are a number of poor players / performances IMO that are worthy of discourse.
  17. I am generally quite positive about our players, particularly new ones. However, I have seen and heard fans laughing at times at his performances so far (albeit short), and I have to agree with them. For me he just doesn't look like a footballer. But I accept that others have the view that he has something that I don't see. I am also more than happy to be proved wrong - and would love to see him grow in fitness and impact over the next few months. Someone mentioned Matt Smith earlier, and he is a good example of a player that didn't look like much to start, but got better and better. In fact it was getting a couple of goals that seemed to breath confidence into him, particularly against the Premiership teams. It was almost as though he didn't quite believe himself he deserved to be there until he got a on the score sheet. Not an outstanding player now by any means, but good enough to be effective in the Championship. Will Ngoo do the same? I hope so, but for me it is only hope - and not belief. But football and football forums would be nothing without different opinions would it?
  18. Seen 2 of his 3 games since his return and that sums it up. He always seemed to want the ball last time, constantly gesturing to teammates to pass or throw it to him. Early days but needs to improve to live up to people's expectations
  19. "I have booked us a romantic dinner at a new restaurant by one of the winners of Master Chef. I think there might be some entertainment thrown in as well, but not sure...."
  20. 3 league goals for only the second time in 1 1/2 seasons, the last being in a 3-3 draw with Gillingham on 3/10/15. Jesus that is depressing
  21. I think your Dad did miss hear it, but it's still in regular use most games.... "Wake-up Oldham" can be heard from most part of the ground during the game ;-)
