  1. I took my daughter (7) too. I hated Jedward, she loved Jedward. On the way out she asked if I thought it would have been as entertaining if Jamie, lucy or Stacey had flown on wires and danced like idiots. I had to concede it probably wouldn't. Even kids have different opinions. I suppose I should be happy mine enjoyed the show, whilst I steadily try to steer her toward the delights of the real rock bands.
  2. That appears to be what is actually happening. Though I don't see where the win-win bit applies
  3. I've said it before. Safety this season is just delaying the inevitable. With less support (Less income), and the same 'tactician' in charge next season, can someone please tell me why I should expect things to be any different to this season? Let's face it, we WILL lose season ticket sales, and our playing budget has got to suffer, so how will we entice signings to a club with low wages, a terrible track record under their current manager, and a rapidly deserting fanbase? Next season could be MUCH worse, and we may not keep getting penalties to rescue us from the relegation zone. As quite a few have stated, on paper we have a side capable of doing much, much better, but for some reason don't appear to be led by positive tactics or motivation. If that is the case, and the current squad are under achieving due to the way they are managed, then there really is no other logical solution than to change the gaffer. DP has definitely suffered some bad luck this season, but let's not allow that to mask some shocking tactics and dire performances. Even at full strength, he wouldn't have taken the side higher than 15th - which is poor considering his similar budget to last season. I tried to keep faith with DP, I really did, but we haven't improved, and I fear for my team if we go into next season with the same man in charge.
  4. With a scoring record like that, I'm wondering if I'd rather he WAS injured! Ah well! If teams can come to BP to throw a monkey off their backs, then hopefully a striker can too.
  5. To be fair, I'm sure plenty would give it some thought.
  6. Only one bite in nearly 2 hours..... I need to try some tastier bait. Or is it that people really would like to share with Rochdale?
  7. For crying out loud. I can't understand why we need to keep worrying about this ground issue. Suggestions have been made regarding sharing with Rochdale at a site central to both clubs. Hand on heart, would it really hurt us to share with our neighbours? I honestly can't see a more sensible solution that would suit the finances of both clubs. No doubt the idea would raise the heckles of a few on here, but it would free up some money to spend on the team. Guaranteed weekly income, halved maintenance and running costs, plus a shiny new 25,000 seater.
  8. Thanks to bloody Ebay, I spend half my life stood queueing outside that collection office.
  9. Good point. They'd have to relocate the Post Office to accomodate a 10 acre site, so unfortunately its probably a no.
  10. I don't see that the fans today are any different to the fans of the last 40 years. When you're struggling, your attendances dip, and pockets of fans that once fused together to sing in unison become two or threesomes unable to muster the same enthusiasm as a large gathering. Vocal support wanes, and the negativity that has ALWAYS been there becomes more apparent. Success sees people returning and re-establishing bonds with people they know, and the vocal support increases to a level where that fusion and unison happens once again. I've been lucky enough to see us promoted a couple of times, and also had to endure the two relegations, and I don't remember support being an issue on any of those occasions. There was no negativity when we dropped out of the Prem because we knew we were never going to cement our place in the top flight, and there was still reasonable optimism when we dropped again because we were expected to bounce right back up. Unfortunately not enough was done to keep us fighting for a promotion place when we failed to bounce back, and a steady demise ensued. If we avoid relegation this season, what is to say we won't go down next season? Especially with less revenue forcing a cut in playing budgets. Success on the field is the catalyst for the good times to return, and you can only achieve that by speculative investment, good management, and a slice of luck. At the moment we appear to have none of those.
  11. I really like the idea, but I'd guess that the land there would be considered a lot more valuable than that at Failsworth, and the council might be reluctant to pursue the same outcome there. After all, OMBC can only be in this for what they can get out of it. Easy access off the by-pass, plenty of acreage, close to the town, Metrolink nearby, and a chance to bring a decent entertainment complex to a shabby run-down area - It all makes too much sense to me.
  12. I had to miss Tuesday's game and stay in with my 7yr old. I could clearly see the floodlights shining from my window, and as a ST holder I really wanted to be there. However, after settling down with a bottle of red, and listening to Mike and Roy's biased commentary on LW, I actually didn't feel I'd missed much, especially as I can also watch the extended highlights. It's an uncomfortable feeling after 40 years of watching Latics, that I wasn't climbing the walls knowing they were playing only a few hundred yards away and I couldn't go. You might have a point Lags, there could well be a few who'd rather pay a few pence a week for LW than £20 a time for match tickets.
  13. I've discovered that the safest place to stand when your dad's teeing off is on the fairway I can't understand why he's playing PV1's at the moment - at £3+ a ball it seems a lot of money to leather down Coal Pit Lane (He hit ANOTHER car last Friday again!! - Someone's gonna get killed soon, I tell ya!)
  14. Bloody Hell! had it been there that long? No mate, AG closed their Ancoats shop in 2008 and took over and renamed Nevadas almost immediately after. Not really sure who owns what anymore.
  15. Damn! I had already made my mind up about the deviousness of some of them too! Ah well! out of 'the loop' again. It's the not knowing that hurts, you know...
  16. As a golfer, I've noticed that occasionally the advertising banner on this site (Automated, and nothing to do with OWTB) shows a link to Golf Clubs Warehouse, who offer unbelievable deals on golf equipment. Unfortunately that is my point - please don't believe them. GCW are well known distributors of copies rather than genuine articles, and whilst they are often very good copies you cannot register them with original manufacturers, most insurance companies won't pay out on claims for clubs bought from GCW, and selling them on could prove a nightmare. I know there are a few golfers on OWTB, and the temptation to buy, for example, a £280 Ping Driver for less than £150 is always going to be high, but it really isn't worth it. GCW's website FAQ's actually admit that the clubs aren't genuine, but only in a round about and confusing way. Better to use the likes of Discount Golf at Bury, or American Golf at Heaton Park for genuine stuff - or you could support your local club's pro. Be careful - a lot of these dodgy clubs now appear on Ebay too.
  17. * Sneakily checks Johnny's profile for a list of people not to trust
  18. I'd use Gordon as a firebreak, and then escape through that gaping hole in our midfield.
  19. A 'Zicke' or 'Zicken' is a Nanny Goat, while 'Zacken' means 'Serrated' (Like a breadknife). Those Germans have never been particularly creative with their chants. They were probably winding the Italian Ultras up by calling them a bunch of goat slaughterers. The expected Eyetie response would be "Yes, but your female Librarians all have moustaches" It's how wars start you know
  20. I watched the United/Bayern Final in Nana Plaza back in 1999. I needed to drown my sorrows after the final whistle, so decided to try and have one in every bar. It does indeed get seedier the higher you get, and the girls seem to get younger, but it was hugely more respectable than I remember when I first went there in the mid eighties - there were blokes then who were blatantly peddling their preteen daughters. Stick to the ground floor for decent bars. Soi Cowboy is another one to be careful of - if the bar owner I was out with hadn't warned me that the girl I was talking to was one of the many 'Kathoey's in there, I might just have made a very embarrassing discovery. If Cabbages and Condoms is still there (Sukhumvit Soi 12), make a point of eating there. It's a fabulous restaurant, with profits going towards birth control projects in the Thai villages (Hence the name). Gorgeous food served on a banana leaf.
  21. Christ, no. Just pointing out that players these days don't give a toss about honouring their contracts. They'd jump ship at the drop of a hat. This lot wouldn't get us back up if we got relegated, that's for sure. That's why relegation has to be avoided - we'd end up a mid-table league two outfit at best, with crowds around 2500.
