  1. Everything by Queen. It is beyond me how they became popular, never mind world wide mega stars. Then again I suppose plenty of crap manages to do it. KtF, Derek.
  2. as player coach. KtF, Derek. Edit: Story is up now.
  3. I'm not scared of it, I am phobic about it. Like I said in the first post I'm not telling. KtF, Derek.
  4. I am not telling you either of mine as you will think I am more freaky than most of you already do. Those that inhabit the real BT will already know what brings me to the point of puking because I so phobic about the inanimate stuff. I actually let someone watch me touch what it was in Asda once, needless to say then ran off laughing whilst I was stood there wretching. KtF, Derek.
  5. What do you mean not a bad guess????? Not the right one, but certainly the right area. Dan will point me in the right direction I am sure. While I worked at Colgate I used to get off the tram at St. Peters Square and something always nagged at me about the Midland. Back to TFTH. My best night there, well there are three if I may, but two are connected. Being a guest of the band to watch the Bunnymen in '86, the night before the gig they had a friends only night in the Lesser, then obviously the gig the night after where they absolutely took my breath away with their power. Sadly, the second last time I ever saw Pete, but great times all the same. In the seventy odd times I have seen them it is still one of my favourites. On a Bunnymen night out it was only beaten once. My second was seeing the fabulously bizarre Sugarcubes there, Bjork was at her height of lunacy then. No matter what anyone thinks of her now, to be able to do a 2 hour set on the back of one 40 minute LP was some going. Obviously it helped that she took the stage and (apparently as I don't speak the language) sang about how to make gingerbread men in Icelandic for 40 minutes. Fabulous night out. Bjork, yeah I still like her, nutty as a fruitcake, but always pushing the boundaries and (I know lots won't agree with this) the voice of an angel. KtF, Derek. Edit: I did actually forget the most famous moment ever for the FTH. It was when Dylan was branded a traitor for donning an electric guitar, which can be clearly heard on the concert recording. Personally, I don't think he ver made a better decision.
  6. Blimey! Silver Jubbly day 30 years ago. After my Dad died and our kid had been to Spain to pick up some of the more personal stuff, he came home with loads and loads of photo albums. There is a picture amongst that lot of a 9 year old Wilson dressed in a blue Tics shirt, and white shorts but with red socks on! I remember nagging my Mum for weeks to get me a pair of red socks and she wanted to know why. My primary school had deemed it a day of the wearing of red, white and blue; the blue and white were easy, red was a problem though as we had white socks in that kit, and were still in tangerine away from home. Eventually my Mum gave in and took me into Rochdale and I bought (from my spends) a pair of red footy socks from that shop that used to be at the bottom of Drake Street - I think it is a mobile phone shop nowadays. I was actually thinking about it the other night to be honest, though I didn't realise the date. I was watching Beeb 1 and the 'Seven Ages of Rock' programme and it was about the Blank Generation. There are at least three posting on here who were up and running out of nappies by then. Whilst just missing the whole punk thing, I am certainly a child of that era and seeing the Pistols floating up and down the Thames certainly brings a smile to my face every time. Not that I am advocating the Pistols as punks all time best band btw, as I have grown older I just appreciate the anti royal gesture (I would string the lot of them up). Good to see some early Clash stuff on there too, the first punk band imo to have a real political agenda, never thought of White Riot in the sense that Mick Jones put it across before. Last but not least, The Buzzcocks at the Lesser Free Trade Hall - fantastic viewing from my favourite punk band of all time. For all you young 'uns out there that didn't get the chance to visit, the Free Trade Hall and its and smaller sibling were the best venues on the planet to watch live music at. I remember being totally awe stricken the first time I went into both of them knowing what great bands had trodden the boards there. The sound was just fabulous too. Does anyone know what has actually happened to the FTH? I know the Halle used to play there until they got their (for pop and rock music) hollow empty place. I have a feeling it is now the Midland Hotel, but that just doesn't seem to be right, though it does seem to be in the right place. Maybe the senility is catching up! KtF, Derek.
  7. I reckon there is more chance of seeing him in NOtW with Will Young hanging out of his ring. Waster. Retired from pro football at 20? How can he, or in fact dare he, do it weeks after all those kids (many of whom he will have worked with at some level)had to be told that they are not good enough to make the grade? One of those kids in a similar position a few years back may have had his head on the block because we thought Hall was worth the time, effort and encouragement in his quest to become a pro footballer. Our thanks? He spits in back in our face. Don't forget either, he willingly took our money whilst prancing around being a Fliping luvvy. I am Fliping livid about this, and not because I think he is any good. He is/ was crap. How dare he not make the effort though with all the resources we have poured into his development over the years. hairy palmed fiddler of the highest order and I hope his shadow never ever darkens the door of Oldham Athletic again in any capacity. Congratulations you lanky streak of half hearted pish. You have just become my most despised footballer ever. KtF, Derek.
  8. If it isn't going well in the last five minutes tomorrow, would anyone have a go at Wellens for having an 'Andrews' moment? When he lashed out at the QPR player that night, I would expect that everyone in the stands wanted to do exactly the same thing. I know I did. For what it is worth, Wellens for Murray would be the only change I would make from the 2003 team. KtF, Derek.
  9. I would let someone chop my cock off to have Clint Hill back, not sure how many takers there would be for the chopper chopping though! For me THE best player we have signed since Jobson. 2003 squad was miles better, in what was a far tougher league. Though to be fair to this lot, it speaks volumes about how well they have done. They have certainly over exceeded themselves, the only disappointment is that we hit top spot then lost it a little. Roll on Saturday. We CAN do it. Blue Army!!!!!!!!!!!!! KtF, Derek.
  10. To be fair Luke, there were plenty of decent Lashers that first collection. If I remember correctly it was the biggest collection we got. It was just the drunken idiots who tarnished the day, turning up at minutes to three in a right state. I would never dream of doing that KtF, Derek.
  11. Ah Denis. Behind the Dodger as my second favourite ever Latics player and in much the same mould, solid and dependable and in some ways the most unnoticed player on the pitch, well until he wasn't there, then boy did you miss him! It is an almost recurring theme through his career to, United ST holding mates never spoke about him unless he was missing from the team. For all you ABU lot who think he is the spawn of the devil, Fergie, the modern games most successful manager still rates him as one of his best ever signings. Not bad for a freebie from Leeds really. I don't remember the opposition but he had an impact on me straight away. I couldn't believe that Leeds had let this little slip of a lad go for nothing. I was 19 when he signed for us and watching him just reminded me of one of my boyhood heroes in blue, John Ryan. Quick, good on the ball and a devestating free kick, he had everything a player could wish to have. Despite his lack of size though he was never one to fear confrontation, he was as hard as you could get on the green stuff. If it went he wouldn't be shy at backing up his team mates. He could cause the odd ruck too. But no Billy big nads from him, off the pitch he was a quite and unassuming man, a managers dream, though not shy like Scholsey, he would easily spend time chatting away to the fans. I met him at the end of season Latics do after his first season at Wolves and we sat and chatted for about half an hour, I asked him if he ever fancied a final fling at BP which made him laugh. He said he loved it at BP and supporting of various functions, but Wolves would be his last club. Instead we talked about his most memorable games, obviously mostly United ones, but the semis against his then soon to be new employers and the playoff games against his previous employers featured prominently. Next to Eyrsey (for me) he is probably one of the most grounded and genuinely nice people that I have met that has been/is involved in football. All you have to actually do is look at his medals tally to find out how good he was. English Champions: 7 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 FA Cup: 3 1994, 1996, 1999 League Cup: 1 1992 UEFA Champions League:1 1999 European Cup Winners' Cup: 1 1991 European Super Cup: 1 1991 Intercontinental Cup: 1 1999 I just wish he had stayed a season longer to get his gong with us. I am pretty sure that there are only two players in the history of the game with more champions medals in England than him. Ryan Giggs and Phil Neal both with eight. Just to think of that haul is staggering, even more so that if it wasn't for our little club he wouldn't have gotten close to any of it. An amazingly consistent footballer, a true gent of the game and doubtlessly a Latics legend. KtF, Derek.
  12. So, while you lot were having a terrible Thursday last week, I was having quite a good day. To cut a long story short, I finally got myself a permanent job. By Friday I had managed to talk myself into an almost five figure rise from that which was advertised (granted it was a paltry offering) and through Monday I continued with the negotiations to include overtime, a six monthly performance review and an annual performance bonus. Obviously after the last nine months of raising my hopes and shouting to all and sundry on the real biggun, then failing or having the rug pulled from under my feet, I decided to keep quiet about it until everything was confirmed to my satisfaction. I got my official offer today in writing, so that's it. I am leaving the toothpaste world to go and be a planner for another multi-national. Another bonus is that it is in Littleborough so I will save myself a small fortune and two hours a day travelling. I will never need to learn to drive now . It is in a brand new factory with brand new machinery (I wish they would get SAP though, feckin back to MFG-PRO again - Bah!). I can even pop over the road to see big Snook for a brew at lunchtime too. Pleased? You bet I am!!!!!! KtF, Derek.
  13. Walshy really is your man for this stuff. He knows so many old classics. I remember him doing at least three verses of 'no nay never', but once we set him off he wouldn't stop. I got bored after the 400th time! KtF, Derek.
  14. I buy stuff to make toothpaste and other bodycare products with. It is a lot of stuff though, about two and a half million kgs a week. Colgate make lots of toothpaste. KtF, Derek.
  15. Should it not be laser eye surgery in the title? Unless of course some Anime character is doing the rounding of the corneas? The thought has never crossed my mind btw. KtF, Derek.
  16. Fab Stipey. I really did quite like the old pics of Springy Park, never saw Latics there but I saw a fair few games there. I remember going watching Wigan V Bolton there in division 4 (my how times have changed) and Bolton took about 4,000 fans and took over the ground then tried to dismantle Wigan brick by brick after the game. Liked the old pics of M'boro and the Mackems too, proper old fashioned grounds that hold many a good memory compared to their newer, shinier flat packed bought from Ikea stadiums. The stadium of Light though is quite a magnificent sight when full, much better than the rest of the newer grounds. Am back on the interview trail again tomorrow afternoon, and Wednesday afternoon too, though today Colgate have offered me until at least the end of August and a golden handshake if I stay. Got to admit I am tempted as I really like it there. No harm in going for the grillings though, they can say no as easily as I can, but it is nice to have that leeway in the knowledge that I have a bit more security for a few more months, especially if I think the right position will be one where I have to move. Not bad really since it was only a three month contract in December. Ah well, better get off to bed shortly, got to be up at 5ish, get in work early then I can leave for the day at eleven. KtF, Derek.
  17. So, the White Hart after the Chesterfield game is it? KtF, Derek.
  18. Tafkan, I have the shirt that he wore at the 'udders game. I was on his committee for the dinner and got to meet him a lot. Undoubtedly the most genuine person I have ever met that is involved in football. He is a long way from being my Latics hero, but as a genuine all round good egg you will have to travel some distance to find anyone that even comes close. Dan, I forgot about the pish up we had after the dinner until silly o'clock. Me, Nik, Tony W, Stan, Hudson and Barry with Eyrsey and his agent. Top bloke who I still keep in touch with, he gets me tickets every now and then to go and watch him. Though of course this season I have been a little busy watching the mighty. KtF, Derek.
  19. Doubtlessly in my mind, Wellens ability wise, is head and shoulders over most in this division, never mind our squad. With that ability though comes the obvious fact that he knows he is the best player at the club, and for me he tries to run the game on his own sometimes, too many Hollywood balls that don't come off, especially of late. Keep it simple lad. He has had some fabulous games this season, but for me nothing anywhere near approaching the half hour he put in at Valley Parade last season. He was of course injured and lacking mobility. So he lifted his head quickly and was getting rid of the ball without a second thought, always finding a blue shirt but the game flowed through him. At the moment he dwells a little too much for me. So whilst one in ten of Richies sixty yard Hollywood balls may find a Latics player, surely the most admirable thing that we have had this season is effort from all and sundry, especially after last seasons tawdry offerings from more experienced players. Warne epitomises that for me and he will certainly get my vote. I would rather watch him chase a dozen lost causes for 30 yards a time than aimless pings of the ball across field. Added to that, for someone who has essetially been a midfield or utility player, a career best return for goals scored. Good on ya Warney! Most improved player, Porter. Most infuriating, Chris Taylor. Go outside and beat the first man ffs! KtF, Derek.
  20. Here is another one that Tiny Dancer has reminded me of. How ironic that an Elton John song reminded me of this, and it wasn't the obvious link, it was just two words. Anyone see Louis Theroux and the most hated family in America at weekend? Now, whilst I am not religious in the slightest, I have little problem with those that do believe (unless they want to shove their beliefs down my throat), and I suppose in some way I do sort of want the whole thing to be true for the sake of both my parents. That lot though were f**king nutters and preachers of intolerance, homophobia and just general hatred in anything they disagree with under an umbrella provided by a twisting of the messages in the bible. A little akin to those that practice terrorism under the guise that the Koran tells them it is the way to go. Whilst I feel each to their own is a good concept to live by (unless you support C**y in which case you are and always be a first class c**t) the adults that chose to be part of it were brainwashing the innocent kids into believing this utter absurdity that they have chosen to live by. There are links on the BBC website to clips and comments. Go and have a look if you didn't see it. Oh, and the protests at the soldiers funeral (agree with the war in Iraq or not) were utterly distgusting. KtF, Derek.
  21. I work for Colgate Palmolive not just Colgate, hence shower gel, shaving foam etc. are all available. Only allowed a tenner a month though, but it will get me about twenty times what you can buy in a supermarket. Those of you obsessed with cleanliness would love it there, even the top floor of Colgate Towers smells of the perfumery (where they make the bases for deoderants) and minty freshness (bases for toothpastes), though it can be a tad over-powering if there is a spill. Pity it is all coming to an end, probably at the end of this month, though I may get to the end of May out of it with a little more than a spoonful of luck thrown in. I have really enjoyed working there, not looking forward to signing on again though. My first day back with the scrotes is officially due to be April 30th. Ha! The irony. Real big threaders will get it I am sure. Then again, I have never had as much interest in my abilities, it is amazing what working for a globally known brand name can do for you. Got an interview tomorrow, another one on the 17th and half a dozen people phoning me per week with opportunities, so whenever it finishes it has been nothing but good for me. Oh, also for the RBTers. I have just had some music on and it got me thinking about IMs funeral music thread, and a couple of songs came on in a row. Bill Withers, Grandaddy and my very own Bunnymen. All three in four songs. Made me feel a little melancholy. KtF, Derek. Edit: decided to go and pick and choose my own songs rather than let the PC do it for me, just put Tiny Dancer on, reminds me so much of Almost Famous and the scene on the bus. Fabulous! Got a big smile on me kite again!
  22. All paid for honest guv! OK I get it dead cheap from the shop at work. I am buying mainly shower gel and toothbrushes this month with this months allowance. KtF, Derek.
  23. Here is a deep and meaningful one. Does having 32 tubes of toothpaste in my bathroom cabinet make me a freak? KtF, Derek.
  24. If there will be beer involved you can take it as read that my arm has been well and truely twisted. KtF, Derek.
