  1. Mrs. Sideburns is on the second picture - I'm just off camera.
  2. Was I wrong to think that the flag(s) was being taken to Bradford? I didn't see it. Do you have to get permission in advance to take it into away grounds?
  3. The Club Badge part of the Flag looked great 'flying' across the Chaddy today as the players came out before today's match. For those players who've never seen it before, it must have really impressed them. Well done once again to those lads who organised and paid for it. You must have been very proud today to see the fruit of your labours. The Channel 4 documentary camera team was in the Chaddy today, so hope they managed to catch the rebirth of the Flag.
  4. Well done to all concerned. Your efforts are really appreciated. :thumb08: oafc_ok would like one of the 6ft x 4ft pieces to make his own flag. He is still waiting for BT to sort out his internet connection, but I can pass on any advice about how he goes about getting one and paying for it.
  5. When washed, will it need to be treated again to make it fireproof, for safety reasons?
  6. Unless you were known as 'Rocky Latic' at school, he won't know who you are. There must have been other kids who fit the same decription, Rocky, or were you a one-off?
  7. You're right. I mis-heard him when he said "Shameless", I thought he said "Seamus". I told him I'd never heard of a TV programme called 'Seamus'. Now you've corrected me, it all makes sense. I've heard of 'Shameless', who hasn't?
  8. A few weeks ago I related the tale of how in the 1950s I went into BP with three other lads, two at a time through the turnstile, and subsequently we all appeared in Oldham Magistrates' Court as witnesses for the prosection of the turnstiule operator, who was on the fiddle. I mentioned that two of the lads, Larry and Gerry Kearns went on to form the Oldham Tinkers, and some lads on here said that they were taught be Gerry Kearns in Rochdale. I'm unable to put a link to the previous thread on here as it's been deleted as part of the tidying up process. On Wednesday night I went to see the Oldham Tinkers at the Rep. Larry is no longer a member of the folk group, but Gerry is and after the show, we reminisced in the bar about going to school and Latics together all of fifty years ago. He remembered that it cost 9d (less than 4p) to go to watch latics in those das. He recalled the trauma of appearing in court at the age of ten - he was petrified, and never really understood what it was all about. He remembered that he had to answer questions put to him with "Sir", but he repeatedly said "I don't know" in answer to the questions. His trauma was such that he can still visualise the light from the coloured windows shining on the wall of the Court. Gerry has retired recently from teaching. He doesn't go to Latics any more. He still prefers to play sport rather than watch it. His son is called Gerard Kearns and is an actor, who has appeared on TV in "Seamus". He also has a lead role in a one-off TV drama titled 'The Mark of Cain', about the experiences of British soldiers in Iraq. It was due to be shown on Channel 4 last night, but was postponed because of the situation with the British sailors in Iran. I was planning to send to Gerry a link to the comments of his former pupils on here, but as explained above, it's been deleted. Unless of course anyone wants to repeat their previous comments. Also on the bill at the Rep was Bernard Wrigley, folk singer/poet/actor. He's written a book of one verse poems. Here's one appropriate as I've been talking about Court. The Judge said "I find you not guilty" The accused person started to yell "Yippee" he shouts "Does this mean I can keep all the money as well?"
  9. Warney by a mile. Everyone else has off games but he is Mr. Consistency. His commitment to the cause is never in doubt. He works tirelessly and believes that even a bad ball is worth chasing, in case he can retrieve it, or force an error from an opponent. He's also come up with the goals and his fair share of assists. When he went in to sort out the Brentford fans and retrieve the ball last Sunday, it typified the man. Fantastic! It also helped us to salvage a point that could prove priceless. My vote goes to Sir Paul of Warne.
  10. Just watch Les save the penalty against Blackpool at Wembley to win us promotion!
  11. Sorry, can't resist this. Is Mandy at AA Flags the "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" sung about by 10cc? I'll get my coat.
  12. It used to be called 'Manchester United Football Club'. Then it changed its name and badge to 'Mancheter United' and became a world brand. I have come to despise a club which, under Sir Fergie, I prefer to call 'ManUre', after I have observed a series of injustices suffered at its hands, not only by Latics, but also other clubs, who appear to be subject to rules which do not cover ManUre. Stamping on other players by Keane and Cantona, and no blame apportioned to them by Sir Fergie, who also refuses to accept his rare defeats magnanimously - instead of giving the opposition some credit and accepting the odd defeat with good grace, he blames the defeat on just about everybody else he can think of. Under his managership the club has lost the distant admiration of many fans of other clubs, because of what they've known for years, and what Roy Keane confirmed when he took on the manager's job at Sunderland - that United's philosophy is to win at all costs! I heared Steve McMahon admit to the same thing about Liverpool under Kenny Dalglish - he said it in the tunnel after beating Forest in the F.A. Cup semi-final, replayed following the match abandoned because of the Hillsborough disaster. To say such a thing in the super-charged emotional atmosphere surrounding that game was unforgivable - if ever life was proved to be bigger than football it was at Hillsborough on disaster day! I have never forgiven McMahon and I despised Liverpool F.C. under Sounness and Dalglish, just as I despise ManUre under Ferguson. Other managers at both clubs have earned respect of fans of other clubs due to their success, but not those three because of their attitude, even though they were classed as great managers. On the Latics' front, a couple of issues involving ManUre have stuck in my craw for years. 1. Latics had a promising young striker called David Brown. ManUre poached him and a young player from Arsenal. Under the wing of Arsenal, Latics reported ManUre to the F.A., and after an investigation, they were fined £50,000 by the F.A. He didn't go on to great things, but who knows how he would have progressed if he'd stayed with us, like Chris Taylor. 2. Latics Reserves were due to play ManUre Reseves at BP in the Manc Senior Cup Final. Latics had marketed the event with a special programme, executive box packages and catering arrangements laid on. Then Fergie phoned Andy Ritchie to say he couldn’t raise a team. So did Latics win the trophy by default, just as in any other instance where a team can't fullfil its fixture? Did they hell! The Manc F.A. rearranged the match to a new date suitable to Fergie and Latics had to stand the cost of the aborted match.
  13. I haven't seen it yet t_n. The film was made by my fellow Burton-on-Trent resident Shane Meadows. You may be interested in the link setting out Shane's views on the film. Shane used to be the lead singer in a local band called "She Talks To Angels" with Paddy Considine and a couple of lads who lived round the corner from me. http://www.channel4.com/film/reviews/feature.jsp?id=160615
  14. Who's more annoying, the drummer or the person making the racist comment?
  15. I've emailed the programme to express the anger of Latics' fans and to get them outed! :sign0094:
  16. If the new home kit is white with a broad blue stripe, that'll do nicely for me! However, it needs to be like the 2000/2001 shirt, but with a blue & white back also, and a blue panel on the sleeves - not blue sleeves as on the 1999/2000 shirt. Ackey has got the right idea! http://www.premiershirts.net/fsd/fsdenglis...hamathletic.htm
  17. :thumb08: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3e_Wct4T10
  18. Fancy everyone forgetting Moussa Dabo (France). Well it's easily done - even Shez seems to have forgotten him!
  19. Stevie, it's a detailed application only for the new main stand. It's ony an outline application for thr remainder of the redevelopment proposals. Even if the remainder is appoved in outline, it will still need a separate detailed application in due course.
  20. I gave this question plenty of thought when we went within twenty four hours from liquidation. I would have supported Burton Albion in Britain's brewing capital , but I would also have been able to make more trips over to Dublin to support Shamrock Rovers . I could also find time to support Lealtad in Spain.
  21. Well said that man! It was good to put faces to so many names: Azulmarino, Inspiral Carpet, Leeslover, Maddog, Wardle and Derek Wilson. Saw the but can't remember all their names. Chris Taylor's dad was in there too, trying to hide how proud he was about his son - he'd only bought five teeshirts! Finished up in The Twelve Pins Irish pub in Finsbury Park singing Dubliners/Pogues/Saw Doctors' songs. We stayed in there and had to delay going to a 60s' club for an hour, when we got caught up in the tense finale of the World Cup cricket match in which beat Pakistan. It was being shown on big screens, while 90% of the crowd in the pub were oblivious to the historic sporting occasion taking place above their heads, as they sang and danced to a live band. Most of the crowd didn't even know Ireland have a cricket team - I bet they're bragging about their team now! The only concession the band made was to play "Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole, Ireland! Ireland!" when three runs were still needed. Then they got on with playing their set, without drawing the crowd's attention to what was going on in the Windies.
  22. Daz from the Trust is hot on the case!
  23. That's what I call top of the morning on Paddy's Day!
  24. I'll be in the Coach & Horses with Mrs. Sideburns (who may be wearing a Taylor's 1st goal teeshirt), oafc_ok and Azulmarino, who's making the trip from Spain :speakenglish: . I'd be glad to meet other posters off here and JKL - I'll be the one wearing the 'Different Class' teeshirt. This could be the day when I finally meet Exile.
