  1. If Unsworth had had to work with the same squad that Shez did his results wouldn’t have been anywhere near as good. To have at worst the second best budget in the league behind Chesterfield and not have an aim to dominate games. I’m sticking my head above the parapet and saying I really don’t rate him. I think he’ll underachieve given what he has at his disposal but keep his job because of Darren Royle and Franks wish for continuity. A forum is all about opinion and I’m stating mine.
  2. That’s a great question. My personal preference would be for us to play nice football and be able to keep the ball but Unsworth has said that’s not his style so there’s probably some unconscious bias there. But I’d have to say, serving up a style of football that has an identity that we can see week in week out. That isn’t playing deep and midfielders dropping off. Attempting to be on the front foot and the defence playing higher up the pitch with midfielders pressing. Also a right back that is comfortable on the ball so we don’t become one dimensional relying on Kitching down the left. Anything less than the playoffs will be a failure, it just wouldn’t much tweaking to win this league.
  3. Probably both. James Berry from Macc turned us down because we don’t play enough football, Unsworths reputation In the game isn’t great. I remember the football Wealdstone who have very limited resources played against us at the start of last season, we’ve not and won’t come close to that.
  4. You could be right but given we signed Southend, Altrincham and Gatesheads best players you’d want to think the Halifax right back or the one who was on loan at Barnet would have jumped at the chance to come to us. unsworth is saying he’s being offered players from the higher leagues which is why I think and hope he could be waiting for the window to close. I think people have forgotten that in the second half of the season, despite results being largely positive, a lot of those games we were second best in and didn’t necessarily deserve the wins. Whilst it’s good to win ugly etc it isn’t sustainable long term and I just don’t see us cultivating a style of play we could be known for and that’s what I think is needed to really progress. Of course I hope I’m wrong and I’ll be the first to hold my hands up if so
  5. That’s fair enough, I’m just sticking my neck out and saying how I see it. I hope he does well I just can’t see it
  6. Isak Hansen-Arronsen ran the show yesterday for Utd u21s vs Altrincham He’s only 18 but seems older. Wouldn’t surprise me if football league teams were after him but he would be a great fit alongside Lundstram in the middle of the park.
  7. Think we’re going to just get by because we’re now so well resourced but I’d surmise 20 of the managers in this league would do better with the resources Unsworth has at his disposal. Lundstram is the type of player who can be down in his own corner flag and then in the blink of an eye be in the opposition box. He’s better in a 2 and would work great with a Gardner from the Byrne/Fane days but not the one of today. Sheron has proved he isn’t good enough for a side with promotion aspirations and Shelton was having to play right back for Hartlepool as he couldn’t shift Mo Sylla from Hartlepools midfield. The only explanation for not having a right back signed is that he is waiting for the football league transfer window to close so he can take someone who is out of favour. Unsworth would be screwed without money and shown up for the fraud he is
  8. That Dickinson scored a 35yard free kick against for Exeter apparently
  9. Will do. Lundstram would have so glad we’ve signed him
  10. I’m off back to Australia in September and therefore won’t be taking him up on his scouting offer so no harm in telling what I know
  11. We were in for him last season, he turned us down because of Unsworth and the style of football we play. He’s signed a contract on big money at Macc whilst he waits for a football league team that he wants to play for to come in for him
  12. God knows but that’s what I was told. Macc have offered 60% and we’ve accepted that part
  13. His agent wants a pay-off from Oldham. The % has been agreed between the clubs. If the agent drops his demand then the move is a go. if he doesn’t Rooney stays where he is
  14. Rooney will be gone if his agent plays ball. If he doesn’t it’s because his agent will have scuppered the deal
  15. Exactly this. The Gardner of last season was a pale imitation of what he has been the rest of his career. He was injured before the season started and played injured until he broke down. He hasn’t been the same player since he had the serious injury in his first spell with us. For all that he’s not as good as he was, he still deserves a bit more respect than the majority on this board give him
  16. The player knows he’s going to move to the football league so there’s no point coming to us where we won’t play to his strengths. He’s spending his pre-season bulking up in the gym so that he’s better prepared should the move to the football league come this season. I came last at golf, lost about 20 balls!
  17. That’s true however I was told that lots of people within the game couldn’t understand why Vaughan couldn’t get a look in. The consensus was that his footballing brain was too far ahead of the rest of the squad and they weren’t on his wavelength. Hence once he played a few games at Radcliffe and it was apparent that nothing was wrong with him he was snaffled up to play with better players where he’d be better suited
  18. But it doesn’t lend itself towards a steady progression and anything resembling a culture and philosophy. Gaining undeserved wins won’t happen forever and then what
  19. I’m just repeating what I was told. Also, let’s not be blinded by the results towards the end of the season, the football was still atrocious. A lot of fans seem to have forgiven that because we were getting results.
  20. I can’t answer that but we were definitely in for the player and he rejected us as he knew Unsworths style of football wouldn’t suit him. I would imagine when there is an obvious emerging talent that’s in demand and you have the resources we do it would be difficult not to be interested.
